President Obama intends to designate Edith Ramirez to be the chair of the Federal Trade Commission, a White House official said Thursday.

Ramirez has served as a commissioner of the FTC since April 5, 2010. Over the past few years Ramirez has been instrumental in ensuring there is robust competition and innovation in the high-tech marketplace, and has worked hard to protect the most vulnerable communities, the official said.

Before she joined the commission, Ramirez was a partner in the Los Angeles office of Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, where she handled complex business litigation.
