Opening today’s show was a song off of Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack’s playlist, “Paint it Black” by the Rolling Stones. Released in May of 1966, the song was the first single from the band’s fourth album Aftermath.
Will Cain’s playlist included “Scar Tissue” by the Red Hot Chili Peppers as well as “Come as You Are” by Nirvana. In 2004, Kurt Cobain’s hometown of Aberdeen, Washington erected a sign reading, “Welcome to Aberdeen: Come As You Are” as a tribute to the late musician.
From Irnin Carmon’s playlist we had Muddy Waters’ blues tune, “Mannish Boy”.
Kicking off the 8 o’clock hour we had “Real Love” by Mary J. Blige off of Soledad O’Brien playlist.
Next up, Congressman John Lewis gave us a song off his playlist, “The Little Light” by Mavis Staples.
Lastly, we had Kanye West’s “Good Life” from Steve Perry’s playlist. The song won a Grammy in 2008 for Best Rap Song.
