Jakes: Forgiveness about seizing control

Bishop T.D. Jakes is a preacher, a movie producer and a best-selling author. He’s got a new book, called “Let It Go: Forgive So You Can Be Forgiven” and he talks with Soledad on “Starting Point” about what it means to forgive someone.

“Forgiveness is not a defense to pain, un-forgiveness is not a defense against pain,” Jakes says. “The fact that you don’t forgive the person doesn’t make you any healthier nor the type of the person it is really toxic to your own heart and your own spirit.”

“My contention is that forgiveness is a gift you give yourself. It doesn’t exonerate the perpetrator and it doesn’t even have anything to do with justice. It just unlatches you from being attached to one event and allow that thing to continue to feed and muster in your own heart and in your own spirit.”

Jakes goes on to explain in the next video what the difference is between forgiveness and trust.
