Big development in the Trayvon Martin shooting that we’ve been following for a few weeks: The family of the 17-year-old, who was shot dead by a neighborhood watch captain, is asking the U.S. Justice Department to step in. The news came as the full 9-1-1 tapes have been released from that night.
Trayvon Martin was shot in Februar by 28-year-old George Zimmerman. Soledad talked with the family on Friday, who said all they want for Trayvon is justice for his death. They had been pressing police to release all the recordings.
A total of seven calls were made, some by neighbors and the first by Zimmerman himself, who has claimed he shot the teen in self defense. In one call, you can hear a voice yelling while a gun shot go off in the background. You can hear the calls here.
Zimmerman has not been arrested or charged.
CNN senior legal analyst Jeffery Toobin talks to Soledad this morning about how the calls could cast doubt in Zimmerman’s story.
