Two agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement were shot Thursday inside the agency’s offices in Long Beach, California, ICE said in a statement.

One of the agents died; the other is listed in stable condition, according to the agency.

The names of the agents are being held until their families can be notified.

The shooting, which took place around 5:30 p.m. PT (8:30 p.m. ET), is under investigation by ICE’s Office of Professional Responsibility, the Long Beach Police Department and the FBI, ICE said.
