New York CNN  —

A carbon monoxide leak at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in New York sent 39 people to area hospitals for evaluation early Monday morning, police said.

There were no life-threatening injuries, according to Sgt. James Dalgish of the Kings Point Police Department, who said 42 were helped by authorities. He said everyone was conscious following the episode.

The cause of the leak was a water heater in the basement of Barry Hall at the academy, Dalgish said
