Two missiles from the drone targeted a purported terrorist hideout

CNN  —

A drone strike killed three militants in a volatile tribal region in northwest Pakistan, intelligence officials from that nation said Friday.

Two missiles from unmanned planes targeted a purported terrorist hideout in Khoshali Khel, which is about 60 kilometers (37 miles) from the rugged Afghanistan border in North Waziristan, said the officials, who did not want to be named because they are not authorized to speak with the media.

Drone attacks in Pakistan, particularly near the Afghan border, have resulted in the deaths of several senior al Qaeda members.

Last week, U.S. officials reported the death of Abu Hafs al-Shahri, who helped coordinate anti-American plots in the region and worked closely with Pakistani Taliban operatives. His cause of death was not disclosed.

And in late August, a U.S. official said that al Qaeda’s second-in-command, Atiyah Abdul Rahman, was killed.
