(CNN) – The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami warning Wednesday for Kermadec Island, Tonga and New Zealand.
The warning was issued after an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.8 shook the Kermadec Islands, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The quake was centered 211 kilometers (131 miles) east of Raoul Island, Kermadec Islands, and 919 kilometers (571 miles) south of Tuku’alofa, Tonga, the survey said.
