BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Nine bombings in Iraq on Sunday wounded dozens of people and killed seven, including an official in the Interior Ministry's criminal investigation department, a ministry official said.

Gunmen with silencers ambushed Brig. Adel Abbasan in western Baghdad's al Adel neighborhood as he drove to work, the official said. Abbasan's driver was wounded.

Here are the attacks:

-- A suicide bomber detonated a pickup truck filled with explosives near a group of police recruits at the police academy in the oil-rich, northern city of Kirkuk Sunday afternoon, a police official said. Four people, including three recruits and a civilian, were killed. Twenty-four others, mostly recruits, were wounded.

-- A roadside bomb blast in northern Baghdad's Waziriya district targeted an Iraqi Army convoy, the Interior Ministry official said. At least eight people, including three soldiers, were wounded, the Interior Ministry official said.

-- At least two people were killed and 45 wounded in a suicide truck bombing targeting the headquarters of a quick-reaction police force in southern Mosul, police said. Fifteen policemen were among the wounded. Video Watch CNN's report on the violence »

-- Another roadside bomb struck an Iraqi police patrol in northern Baghdad's Adhamiya district, the official said. Five Iraqis, including a policeman, were wounded.

-- Four Iraqis, including a policeman, were wounded when a bomb attached to a civilian vehicle exploded in central Baghdad, an official said.

-- Two Iraqi civilians were hurt by a bomb blast outside the central Baghdad office of a newspaper, the Interior Ministry official said.

-- A bomb attached to the vehicle of a Finance Ministry official detonated while he was driving in western Baghdad's Harthiya district, seriously wounding him Sunday morning, the official said.

-- A roadside bomb targeting an Iraqi police convoy in southeast Baghdad's Zaafaraniya neighborhood wounded three police officers and three civilians around noon, the official said.

-- Also at midday, a roadside bomb exploded in central Baghdad, wounding at least three police officers and four civilians. The Interior Ministry official said the attack was aimed against a police patrol.

-- An Iraqi military officer was wounded when gunmen opened fire on his vehicle in eastern Baghdad's New Baghdad district as he drove to his job at the Interior Ministry's Inspector General's office, the ministry said.

On Saturday, three people were killed and 20 wounded by a suicide car bomb that targeted a soccer field where young men were playing in the northern city of Tal Afar, local police said. Five of the wounded were listed in critical condition.

Tal Afar is near the Syrian border, about 45 miles (72 km) west of Mosul.

A parked car bomb exploded in central Mosul on Saturday, wounding three civilians, an Interior Ministry official said. The car bomb was discovered by police before it exploded and before it could be cleared, the official said.
