(CNN) -- In an editorial, The Irish Times says the Arab and Muslim world is not convinced by the pope's statement of regret issued Sunday.

"Although officials seeking to defuse the row may try to persuade opinion-makers and believers that the Pope's words are sufficient, it is not clear they will be convinced.

"While he expressed sorrow for the offence caused, and said his use of a quote from a medieval text characterizing Islam as 'evil and inhuman' did not express his 'personal thoughts,' he did not issue a straightforward apology.

"Although officials seeking to defuse the row may try to persuade opinion-makers and believers that the Pope's words are sufficient, it is not clear they will be convinced."

The iPod generation

Meanwhile, the iPod generation in the UK is "insecure, pressured, over-taxed, and debt-ridden," according to a report in The Daily Telegraph.

It reads: "Millions of taxpayers under the age of 35 have been hit by a debilitating combination of rising debts, extra costs and low earnings growth, says the study by Reform, the center-Right think-tank.

"It warns that those under 35 are fast becoming the iPod generation -- Insecure, Pressured, Overtaxed and Debt-ridden. The financial pressures on them have become so acute, the report claims, that the average 20 to 35-year-old graduate will face an effective tax burden of around 48 percent."

Honeymoon over

Britain's Daily Mail calls for "less fashion and more shooting please," from Chelsea's new Ukrainian signing Andriy Shevchenko.

"On page seven, Andriy Shevchenko was swinging a golf club. On page nine he was posing with Tiger Woods. Four sheets later in the Chelsea match program he was staring moodily from a full-page Armani ad.

"Yes, the world's most celebrated striker is sorted for golf and threads. He can also do semi-nudity when the snappers demand it. A few weekends ago he popped up half-dressed on the cover of the Sunday Times magazine with his glamorous wife, who was wearing only her underwear.

"'Sheva' has turned himself into a proper London highroller. It's a goal and a good performance he needs now. The honeymoon period has run out for the new boys, not just at Chelsea but across the fevered landscape of England's highest league."

A tough test

Migrants applying for Australian citizenship are likely to face tests to ensure they understand enough English to talk to workmates, fill out forms and read safety signs, according to The Australian newspaper.

"The tests could be used to ensure applicants understand Australian history and support democracy, male and female equality and the rule of law.

"A federal government discussion paper released yesterday also called on new immigrants to live in Australia for four years rather than the current two before being eligible for citizenship."

Hidden danger

The modern look and beautiful design of Suvarnabhumi airport are harboring potential dangers for unaware passengers and the airport authority is doing its best to get rid of the problems, The Bangkok Post reports.

A survey by the newspaper found at least five spots where danger loomed and could stop air passengers from boarding the planes in time.

"The potential danger spots include the car park building and its walkway leading to the terminal's third floor, revolving doors, sharp-edged air-conditioners fixed on the floor, escalators, and the slippery marble floor at the departure area for out-bound passengers."

White carrots

Carrots are said to be good for vision, but shoppers may be rubbing their eyes in disbelief over the latest offering on the vegetable counter, the UK's Daily Mail newspaper reports.

"The white carrot is said to be sweeter and juicier than the orange original but traditionalists may still have difficulty stomaching the idea."
