BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- A U.S. security official, assigned to the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, was killed on Sunday by a mortar attack on a U.S. Army base near Baghdad International Airport, U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell said.
"The Department of State and I mourn the loss of one of our own today in Baghdad," Powell said. "Assistant Regional Security Officer Ed Seitz was killed in a mortar attack on Camp Victory."
A U.S. soldier was also wounded in the attack, a State Department spokesman said.
Powell confirmed the death to reporters who were traveling with him in Beijing, China, on Sunday.
