Musharraf: 'Profound grief' over Pearl's death
The following is a statement issued by the office of Pakistani President, General Pervez Musharraf giving his reaction to the murder of missing Wall Street Journal journalist Daniel Pearl: President Pervez Musharraf has expressed his profound grief on the tragic death of Mr. Daniel Pearl. The president offered his heartfelt condolences to the wife of Mr Pearl, his family and to the editors and journalists of the Wall Street Journal. Meanwhile, Gen. Musharraf has directed the government of Sindh and other national security agencies to apprehend each and every one of the gang of terrorists involved in this gruesome murder. Such acts of terror, the president said, were painful experiences for the society but would not deter him, his government and the people of Pakistan from acting with all their strength against terrorists and in fighting this menace together with the international community. The president said Pakistan would stay the course to ensure that his country and indeed the world is free of terror. |
