Syrian Culture Minister Riad Nassan Agha said yesterday Aleppo was chosen by the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) because of its role as the "main point of passage between East and West." Two days of inaugural festivities will kick off 18 March 2006 with the rededication of the 12th-century Great Mosque (C), which has been under restoration for the past five years.
