In a video message Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula commander Nasr Ibn Ali al-Ansi claims responsibility for the attacks on the Charlie Hebdo satirical magazine Jan. 7, 2015. With pictures of the two Kouachi brothers Said and Cherif behind him, al-Ansi says "When the heroes were assigned, they accepted. They promised and fulfilled" and praised that attacks saying it was revenge for the depictions of the Prophet Mohammed. Al-Ansi went on to say "It is France that has shared all of America's crimes. It is France that has committed crimes in Mali and the Islamic Maghreb. It is France that supports the annihilation of Muslims in Central Africa in the name of race cleansing." The nearly 12-minute video was produced by AQAP's official media wing al-Malahem media and published online Wednesday.
