Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana, America's oldest hospital, was founded in 1736. At its height, the hospital served over 100,000 patients a year. When Hurricane Katrina hit in August of 2005, the hospital was able to treat hundreds of victims. Eventually doctors and patients were forced to evacuate. It has yet to reopen.
