The exhibitions: There's a different exhibition at the Palace every summer during the public openings. A 2017 "Royal gifts" exhibition showcased presents given to the Queen by the likes of former US President John F. Kennedy and former South African President Nelson Mandela.

The Ballroom: The largest room in the Palace, which was originally opened in 1856 to mark the end of the Crimean War, is now the setting for state banquets.

The secret door: Obscured behind what appears to be a cabinet, the hidden door in the White Drawing Room connects to the Queen's private rooms. See if you can spot it.

The Music Room: Prince Charles and Prince William were both christened in this room, which is one of the last stops on the tour.

Changing of the guard: The formal ceremony is conducted on the Palace forecourt every day at around 11 a.m. during the summer months, so tour attendees will be able to catch it provided they get the timing right.
