CNN Presents: In the Footsteps of bin Laden is a biographical documentary of Osama bin Laden – the most notorious terrorist of our time. Told through the voices of those who know him best, this two-hour production is an unprecedented look at the life and evolution of Osama bin Laden, and is reported by CNN chief international correspondent Christiane Amanpour.
How did a shy, polite child from a respected and wealthy Saudi family become the world’s most wanted terrorist? In Amanpour’s revealing investigation, viewers hear about bin Laden’s personal transformation from child to man — from pious, peaceful teenager to the architect of 9/11, tracing the path of Osama bin Laden’s life through first-person accounts.
CNN journeyed from his home, schools and mosque in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to his residence in Peshawar, Pakistan, where al-Qaeda was born, to the mountains of the Afghanistan-Pakistan border region where bin Laden has eluded capture. Interviews were conducted in 10 countries on four continents with bin Laden’s friends, relatives, a former schoolteacher, those who fought beside him, an elite group of journalists who have interviewed him, and those who have hunted him.
In the Footsteps of bin Laden is produced by CNN Productions. Contributing to this project are Mark Nelson the vice president and senior executive producer of CNN Productions; Kathy Slobogin, Managing Editor of the project; and Ken Shiffman, senior producer. Brian Larch and Cliff Hackel are producers for the project. This production is partially based upon The Osama bin Laden I Know by CNN terrorism analyst Peter Bergen, who is also a co-producer for this project.
