Mallika Kapur is CNN's international correspondent based in Hong Kong. She moved to the city this June to focus on reporting from the wider Asia Pacific region after being based in India's financial capital Mumbai for CNN for the previous eight years.

She is a key part of CNN's global business news team. She has covered the markets from London, Hong Kong and Mumbai and has interviewed several prominent business leaders including Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz, Mahindra Group Chairman, Anand Mahindra and ICICI Bank MD and CEO, Chanda Kochhar.

Kapur also reports on a wide range of key political and social stories from the region. She spent many weeks reporting on the story of a homeless 9-year-old boy with cerebral palsy. Her stories led to an outpouring of support from across the globe and a series of initiatives culminating with his admission into a school for children with special needs and a home for him to live in.

She is a regular contributor to CNN's monthly flagship program 'Talk Asia' for which she has interviewed leading global figures such as Indian cricket superstar Virat Kohli and legendary fashion designer Calvin Klein.

Kapur travelled to Bangladesh to conduct an exclusive interview with 'Happy' an 11-year-old domestic helper who was allegedly abused by her employer, for CNN's Freedom Project which exposes modern day slavery worldwide, Bangladeshi cricketer Shahadat Hossain. Earlier, she led the documentary 'Trapped by Tradition' which shone a light on the appalling tradition under which many young girls in a North Indian village were sold into sexual slavery. The documentary was awarded a Gold Medal at the prestigious New York Festivals International Film and TV Awards 2012.

Other significant assignments include hosting CNN's 'Growing India' week of special programming, covering the landmark 2014 general elections, interviews with cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, the Mumbai terrorist attacks in 2008, and the Asian Tsunami from the remote Andaman and Nicobar Islands in India in 2004.

Kapur has been reporting for CNN since 2002. She worked as an anchor on shows from the network's London and Hong Kong bureaus and reported extensively from the London Stock Exchange. Before joining the network, she worked for CNBC in New York and Singapore.

Kapur is Indian and was born in Calcutta. She graduated with a BA (Honors) in International Relations from Brown University, and went on to do a Masters in Broadcast Journalism at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism in New York.
