After being stranded for seven days in the bitter cold, James Kim made a heart-wrenching and deadly decision. He left his wife and two daughters and began a 16-mile journey through the Oregon wilderness in search of help.

Kim eventually left the road and made a detour into the forest. His pants and other clothing were found along the path he took. Searchers found his body in a ravine a mile from food and shelter. Officials said he died from hypothermia as a result of exposure. His wife, Kati Kim, and two daughters had been rescued earlier.
