Elian Gonzalez

Elian Gonzalez is a Cuban boy who has been at the center of an international custody battle since he was found lashed to an inner tube in the ocean off Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Thanksgiving Day 1999. Elian, who turned 6 in December, was one of three survivors from a boat that capsized during an attempt by a group of Cubans to reach the United States. Elian's mother, Elisabeth Brotons, and 10 others died.
