Edith Roosevelt

Edith Roosevelt's 1905 gown for husband Theodore Roosevelt's inaugural ball was made of fabric woven by the William Strange Co. of Paterson, New Jersey.

The Washington Post remarked on the gown's "unusual" color.

"Some surprise has been expressed that Mrs. Roosevelt selected a shade of robin-egg blue, as white or purple are the usual colors worn on state occasions. But Mrs. Roosevelt wished her gown absolutely unique"
