In a world beset with concerns over the Y2K bug and technological and material concerns, we thought the approach of the millennium would be an ideal occasion to present pictures that reflect a different dimension. In this gallery, photographer Chris Rainier captures the lives and rituals of people who live in this time but are of another world, in a manner of speaking. The images, many of them from Rainier's book, "Keepers of the Spirit," echo a theme of quiet spirituality.
