Public transportationAs of October 8, 1999, 100 percent of Federal transit grantees had submitted documentation indicating full Y2K compliance. The American Public Transit Association (APTA) reports that the major U.S. public transit organizations expect few significant problems due to Y2K. APTA's largest members are Y2K compliant, have contingency plans in place, and are conducting testing and drills. The Community Transportation Association of America (CTAA) provided to the President's Council on Year 2000 Conversion an overview of three self-assessment surveys of their membership, which includes small, localized transit providers. CTAA reports that larger community and rural transportation systems utilizing more advanced scheduling and dispatching programs report full compliance, non-networked systems report partial Y2K compliance, and transit systems lacking readiness statements from their vendors, particularly small fuel companies, remain unclear about the effect of the vendors' compliance on their own ability to provide rides in the Year 2000. |
