Medical facilitiesAccording to July/August 1999 Rx2000 Solutions Institute survey data, 40 percent of health care organizations were Y2K ready. Approximately 76 percent of health care providers already have or are developing Y2K readiness plans; 83 percent have taken steps to determine the Y2K readiness of their suppliers and vendors. An October 1999 report from the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General indicates that, as of July 1999, one-third of Medicare fee-for-service providers reported that billing and medical records systems were not Y2K ready. The FDA is currently completing a review of all types of computer-controlled, potentially high-risk medical devices to assure that Y2K status information is available from all manufacturers and that the manufacturer has addressed any potentially serious Y2K-related issues. |
