Determining who a DNA sample comes from is a five-step process that can take as little as 36 hours or as long as three weeks. The length of time varies according to a lab's workload and the type, quality and number of DNA samples tested. A lab handling one case, which extracts a test-worthy sample on the first attempt, could possibly get results within 36 hours. Most rush jobs can take three to four days, and under regular operations, two to three weeks. Click on a tab below to follow the steps in matching DNA samples.
