Arbitrary and capricious...meaning that this S&L is singled out for purely political reasons because President Clinton has a relationship. What about the 465 S&L failures that were greater rip-offs than Madison Guaranty? Practically every one would yield guilty bankers, more guilty politicians, and innocent victims known as depositors. Our own Senator D'Amato is supposed to act like the Chairman of the Senate Banking Committee. Instead, he remains obsessed with a single-minded persecution of S&L #466 - Madison Guaranty. You can tell it's nearly time for a Presidential election.

Concerning Whitewater, etc., it seems to me if one is an animal in a nest of snakes, chances are very good one is also a snake.

So what McDougal is guilty. If republicans could link Clinton to anything they would run him into the ground especially right now. I thought it wise that the president made a brief statement and as he has said, he can get on with his job. I believe the man has been good for this country and he does have morals, but if it took great morals some of our forefathers would never have made it, and they were pretty good presidents. . . .

We knew that one liar would win and one would lose. In this case the convicted liar was more credible than the habitual one. What are the spin doctors saying now. I'll bet it's "who cares!"

It is widely known that politics is a more than a cloudy and shadow filled line of business to get into. I have yet to meet a fully honest, for the best of the overall community oriented politician. However, I fully disagree with the media using Bill Clinton as the best shooting target. I sincerely hope that the media will return to its code of conduct of reporting fairly, truthfully and ethically. . . . We all know that, like every other politician, also Bill Clinton has his times behind him that are not the proudest to look back at. However, the entire Clinton family has grown well into their current roles and have shown a good interest and effort in changing the community and social environment. . . . I support the Clinton/Gore team and hope for them to be re-elected in an unprecedented landslide victory! They deserve it!

It would be awfully nice if the trial was really over now. Unfortunately we will now be inundated with appeals at the further expense of the tax payer.

OK, lets get on with it. Let's now go back and dig out George Bush's son's involvement in Silverado.

I think you should lay blame where it is due instead of attacking the republicans for bringing it to light. They have every right to make the American people aware of the character of these individuals, including the president and the first lady because character does matter, since the news media chooses either to ignore or rationalize the issue.

I think the whole Whitewater thing has been a contemptible waste of taxpayers money. The shear audacity of Al D'Amato having anything to do with ethics!! The republicans poverty of ideas except blaming illegal immigration and welfare is epitomized by the standard bearer Bob Dull.

I'm so relieved the jury saw through the "white house spin" as it appeared on the video tape testimony given by Bill Clinton. The jury has taken the word of a convicted felon over that of the president. That speaks volumes to me.

I would think that this would have little effect on the president or the presidential campaign. I'm sure if the prosecutor believed there were grounds for filing any kind of criminal charges against the president because of Whitewater that would have been done long ago.

I am pleased at the Whitewater verdict. It is refreshing to see that our nation is not made up of a bunch of mindless robots. The jurors saw through the fake screens to the truth. I just hope that this vision carries through to the 1996 presidential election.

The verdict was only seconds old when the news commentators were declaring the president guilty by association. I think that most Americans do not need others to tell them what to think. Alfonse is probably already preparing to spew out a string of venom at his next committee meeting.

Whitewater in Arkansas? Who besides the people of Arkansas and the Republican National Committee really cares about this? Why are you wasting national news space on this story?

It is interesting that even though the president has not been charged with any crime, the headline is "The President's Whitewater partners found guilty" I cannot remember anyone being this interested in the partners of the Keeting Five, or Mike Milken...I just find it interesting

The next trial should include the news departments of CBS, NBC, ABC and CNN. The charge should be obstruction of justice, lying, fraud, and high treason.

All the liberal journalist who have spiked the Clinton criminal enterprise ought to be in the dock, prosecuted for high treason for betraying their profession and hiding the truth about the Clintons.

Cordially,

I consider myself a moderate republican. I am a native of Arkansas. I think the more conservative members of the republican party have tried to frame a president of the opposition party. I happened to have invested in Whitewater as well as other speculative real estate deals in the Ozarks. I lost money as did others (including Clinton). I am ashamed of my party, the Republican party, and the extent to which they have gone to try to smear the opposition. It is indeed tragic that the political stakes are so high that such behavior is elicited from both parties.
