Chat with the "Austin Powers" costume designer

Austin Powers

(CNN) -- Deena Appel designed the groovy costumes for both "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery" and the sequel, "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me." She recently collaborated again with director Jay Roach on the upcoming "Mystery, Alaska." The small-town, down-to-earth costumes in that film are a far cry from the colorful, sexy '60s looks Appel created for "Austin Powers."

In addition to designing for movies, Appel has also worked in television. Her credits include HBO's "Weapons of Mass Destruction" as well as "A Mother's Instinct," "A Kiss to Die For" and the 1930s drama "Wildflower" for director Diane Keaton. Appel is based in Los Angeles.
