Publisher readies new Stephen King book
August 31, 1999
(CNN) -- Sure, Stephen King may be stuck in his Maine home, recovering from the injuries sustained when he was struck by a van. But his fans can rejoice because his newest book -- a collection of two novellas and three short stories -- is ready to hit the bookstores in September. The stories are set between the years 1960 and 1999, and offer King's fictional look at the life and times of a generation that came of age in that complex and challenging period of American history. In his review, Bentley Little -- the author of the bestselling horror novels "The House," "The Ignored," and "The Store" says "Hearts in Atlantis" is "a book of heart, wit, intelligence, and moral reflection ... one of Stephen King's very best." King, seriously injured when he was hit by a van June 19 while walking on a Maine roadside, recently gave an extensive interview to the "Bangor Daily News" about his injuries and recovery. "...if I hadn't pivoted to the left, I'd hit the guy or the guy's van and either the top of my head comes off or I'm dead or I'm a vegetable because they've got the marks on the windshield," King told the newspaper. "I went over the top of the van into the rocks. And I guess I missed that. My spine was chipped in four places. So I missed being a quadriplegic."
