'Brain Droppings'A room with a George Carlin viewWeb posted on: Monday, June 08, 1998 6:12:17 PM EDT (CNN) -- Comedian George Carlin has made fans laugh with his skewed views on life as we know it. Now he's taking to the printed page with the paperback "Brain Droppings". He spoke about the book recently with CNN Entertainment Correspondent Bill Tush. BILL TUSH: This book is selling like hotcakes. GEORGE CARLIN: Yeah... TUSH: This is a book you can't read on the subway by yourself... because you laugh like an idiot. CARLIN: They will take you away to a large building with small windows, and you'll eat through a slot ... TUSH: This is like -- the book is hysterical. You just ramble? I mean, is that how it works? CARLIN: Yeah. I had a lot of things in my file that I knew I'd never get to in standup. I mean, I do an HBO show every two years, an hour's worth, but I knew I had way more than I'd ever get to use. And some of it is more suitable to the page than the ear.
TUSH: Your book includes words of wisdom, like "If you can't beat 'em"... CARLIN: "Arrange to have them beaten." TUSH: There you go. CARLIN: Absolutely. TUSH: And what about your restaurants? CARLIN: Well, there are a lot of interesting restaurants I tried. "Bombs Away" is a good one. "Bombs Away" is a restaurant where the kitchen is on the second floor, and the patrons are on the ground floor. And when your order is ready, they drop the food and everybody yells "Bombs away!" It works very well for steaks and chops, not too well for creamed spinach. Don't forget, this book is excellent for Father's Day, by the way. TUSH: Oh. CARLIN: Yeah. If you have any problems with your father, give him this.
