Tehran, Iran (CNN) - The head of Iran's nuclear energy agency announced Saturday that the country had launched a "serious" nuclear fusion research program, according to state-run Press TV.

Iran's atomic organization chief Ali Akbar Salehi, pictured here speaking in Tehran in April.

Ali-Akbar Salehi, the chief of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), said as many as 50 scientists were participating in the research to break into alternative energy, Press TV said.

The process of nuclear fusion consists of forcing hydrogen nuclei to collide at high speed and fuse together, which releases energy, according to the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) website.

The goal is to eventually develop fusion plants to generate electricity, the IAEA said, but research worldwide is still in the early stages. The agency called nuclear fusion a "long term, sustainable, economic and safe energy source."

Salehi acknowledged the project will take time.

"It takes 20 to 30 years before this process can be commercialized but we have to use all the capacity in the country to provide the necessary speed for fusion research," Salehi said, according to Press TV.

Iran is under fire for other aspects of its nuclear program, which Tehran claims is for peaceful purposes. However, the United States and other Western nations fear Iran is attempting to develop a nuclear weapon.

The United Nations has issued four rounds of sanctions against the country for not being more transparent about the goals and status of its nuclear program.

Earlier this month, President Barack Obama signed into law new U.S. sanctions against Tehran that he called another step in demonstrating that "the United States and the international community are determined to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons."

Interesting...it makes sense that an area whose heritage fielded much of the actual advanced science and mathematics might step up and bring nuclear fusion energy-translation forward.
Of course; we are not even prepared to tell the World how much we have been doing with plasma weapons research and other nasty things which might be more closely associated with fusion technologies than with fission technologies. Good on 'em that they are focusing on fusion.
Who knows what we could be doing if we put 25% of our inefficiently spent lethality funding toward constructively peaceful applications.

Turkey is hosting a meeting with Iran and Brazil in Istanbul to work out the exchange of 1200kg of low enriched Iranian Uranium for 120kg of 20% enriched Brazilian Uranium to use to refuel a small Iranian Medical reactor. This was previously agreed upon in May, before Israel attacked Turkey's civilian cargo ship carrying food and medical supply's to Gaza.

I hope Turkey purchases S-300 anti-aircraft missile battery's from Russia to ward off any further Israeli attacks upon Turkey now and in the future. Turkey closing off it's immense airspace to all Israeli fighter jets should severely damp any Israeli bombing missions on Iran.

Both Turkey and Iran have immense mineral resources and land mass. Israel is a tiny country with few if any resources, it is only a matter of time that Israel's neighbors populations and acquestions far outpace Israel and are no longer victims of Israeli threats of violence.

i had thought the UN was created to stop this bullying and everything should go through the UN , and that the UN charter protects the security and soveignty of nations , and so far the IAEA did not find the smoking gun in Iran . so why is Israel allowed to behave as if it is above the law . ?

Funny how sometimes America is soveriegn, and sometimes it bows to the U.N. And then sometimes we tell the U.N. to shove it, and now Congress is making a decision for soveriegn Israel?!! Tough to tell which side the U.S. is on!

“House OK’s possible raid on Iran” WOW—Is this how it works? Maybe the Pakistanese Republican Party just OK’d a possible raid on the United States by the Chinese. Nothing like hiring a hit man with BIG GUNS who owes them a S… load of money. Next to follow will be “Iranian Republican party OK’s raid on United States by Russia for killing Russian Nuclear Power Plant scientists in Iran”.

Obama must start a war before the end of October, otherwise he will be badly beaten in the November mid term elections.

We can expect a war with Iran and if Obama cant spin his way into that conflict, the US will start a war with N. Korea.

War always raises a President's support and it generates jobs. All in all Obama desperately needs a war.

Obviously Israel is always happy to along with any plan to kill Muslims,as long as the odds are stacked in their favor. Israel will probably do the bombing against those opponents who have little more than sticks and stones to fight with. And America will step up to bomb those who can fight back.

Odds that Obama starts a war before November elections: 90%
If the American people are against this, they will be brought in line by another false flag terror attack. Something will get blown up in America to ensure the American people can be more easily led to another bogus war.

To all those comments above,

There is no reference to Israel in this blog which appears to explain a further development in Iran's nuclear programme.

It is concern to the entire international community that Iran has violated treaties to which is a signatory and has been proven to have lied to the world about what is going on within it's territory.

Israel is the state that bears the brunt of Iranian rhetoric and contempt, Iran foolishly believing that it can gain support by doing so. But Israel is only a tiny speck on the map of targets for Iranian messianic Islamism that has to see global chaos, not just in the ME, to bring about the revelation of the Hidden Imam.

John A   July 25th, 2010 9:48 pm ET

Miriam in case you haven't figured it out, here is a clue.

Iran posses no threat to the USA. Iran could not strike the USA in the next 100 years.

Iran posses no real threat to anyone and has not started a war in over 1000 years.

Who really wants to strike Iran? Here another clue Isr_el

Are you even smart enough to find the _missing_ letter

Funny how twisted and depraved it is when the Mossad murder civilian scientists in Iran and yet Israel and her supporters here are constantly posting how terrible Iran is. Nine Turkish civilians were executed by the Israeli commandos in International Waters by a heavily armed Israeli Assault force and yet Israel and her supporters here are constantly posting how terrible Turkey is.

In the 1970's America had plans on helping Iran obtain multiple Nuclear Power reactors from American contractors.

Israel's rabid treatment of one of their only friends in the entire middle east, Turkey is very telling. America needs to tell Israel to make some friends in the Middle East, let them give Israel or sell Israel what that tiny nation actually needs or is actually able to afford.

Israel's entire GNP is likely unable to even pay for maintaining and repairing Israel's immense stockpile of ultra-expensive US Military Jets, Battle Tanks, Artillery Batterys, Guided Missiles, Attack Helicopters. Why the heck should America give Israel any more? Let them chose to spend their entire GNP on their huge high tech weaponry, or chose to spend their GNP on their people.

miriam   July 26th, 2010 4:44 pm ET

John A,

Israel's views on Iran and its nuclear programme have been well known for a long time by the US and EU, ie the preference for a diplomatic solution, sanctions if diplomacy fails and, at the last resort, military action if all options are exhausted.

This path is the same as that prefered by the international community.

In the last few weeks, it is the Gulf states that have been increasingly, openly vocal in their opinions which favour military action with little comment on diplomacy and sanctions.

If there has been a perceived change in US policy it has nothing to do with Israel and everything to do with the Gulf states, including Saudi Arabia, and their Washington lobbyists.

Your obsession with Israel has caused you to ignore the disputes other nations in the ME have with Iran and the threat Iran poses to them.

It is only in the last 31 years that Iran has been controlled by Messianic extremists with a radical theological ideology that threatens the entire world.
Whatever the behaviour of the Persian Empire during history, the current leadership in Iran is something totally different.

miriam   July 26th, 2010 5:07 pm ET

Smith,

Luckily, Israel does spend a great proportion of its GDP on helping its population, including protection from genocidal nations and organizations which do not hide their desire to see Israel annihilated.

Those in the world who share that same ideology love to mock the fact that the Jewish state has to spend so much on defence. After all, without those defences, all those supposed non-existant threats would quickly be realized.

During the 1970s, Israel had an extremely close ally and friend in the ME.

It happened to be one of the only other Arab nations in the ME.

Israel did nothing to change the relationship.

That country was Iran, and many in the populations of both countries remember those days and believe they can be brought back.

Similarly, relations with Turkey, another non-Arab nation, only started to deteriorate with the change in regime there and its decision to distance itself from the Jewish state.

Any Arab country that wants to exhibit independence and maturity, following the example set by Egypt and Jordan, and "make friends" with Israel can do so.
It just takes courage.

The Wikileaks Afghanistan War Logs, publicly released today, highlight and corroborate what we already know about the “war on terror” – it is a vast and decompartmentalised intelligence operation.

The London Guardian reports:

“A stream of U.S. military intelligence reports accuse Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) spy agency of arming, training and financing the Taliban insurgency since 2004, the war logs reveal, bringing fresh scrutiny on one of the war’s most contentious issues.”

The reports are said to have been mostly collated by junior officers relying on informants and Afghan officials, prompting one senior U.S. intelligence officer to describe them as a mixture of “rumours, bullshit and second-hand information”.

However, it has been common knowledge for years that the ISI created the Taliban and Al Qaeda as we now know them, acting in its capacity as a direct front for U.S. intelligence.

Before 9/11, Pakistan worked directly with the CIA to create the Taliban in Afghanistan. Selig Harrison from the Woodrow Wilson International Centre for Scholars stated:

“The CIA made a historic mistake in encouraging Islamic groups from all over the world to come to Afghanistan. The U.S. provided $3 billion for building up these Islamic groups, and it accepted Pakistan’s demand that they should decide how this money should be spent.

The old associations between the intelligence agencies continue. The CIA still has close links with the ISI (Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence).

Today that money and those weapons have helped build up the Taliban, Harrison said. The Taliban are not just recruits from ‘madrassas’ (Muslim theological schools) but are on the payroll of the ISI. The Taliban are now “making a living out of terrorism.”

Harrison confirmed that the creation of the Taliban had been “actively encouraged by the ISI and the CIA and that Pakistan had been building up Afghan collaborators who would “sustain Pakistan”.

Al Qaeda was a joint CIA/ISI intelligence database of mujahudeen fighters they had recruited in the late 70s and eighties to fight the Soviet Union in Afghanistan.

It was later revealed via de-classified Defence Intelligence Agency documents of 2001 that the DIA was aware that the ISI was sponsoring the Taliban and Al Qaeda, but the Bush Administration chose to ignore its findings.

B Raman, former additional secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat, analysed three recently de-classified DIA documents of 2001 relating to the Taliban and Al Qaeda and said, “From these documents, it is clear that the DIA knew of the ISI’s role in sponsoring not only the Taliban, but also the Al Qaeda.”

No surprise then that in 2003 two senior members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Richard G. Lugar, Republican of Indiana, and Joseph R. Biden Jr., Democrat of Delaware (now vice president), went on record to state that Pakistan’s ISI was sheltering Taliban fighters along the border, thus undermining the stability of Afghanistan.

The Senators told the New York Times that there was evidence that ISI might be helping the Taliban and Al Qaeda operatives along the border infiltrate into Afghanistan.

Then in 2005 CIA officer Gary Schroen, who spearheaded U.S.’ search for Osama Bin Laden in Afghanistan, stated that ISI officials are very well aware of the whereabouts of the leadership of Al Qaeda, including Bin Laden himself.

The veteran CIA officer said that regardless of how much reward money America offers, “Bin Laden would not be captured and handed in” because the leadership of Pakistan, including Musharraf, are afraid of the internal political consequences.

Two days before 9/11, the leader of the Afghan Northern Alliance, Commander Ahmad Shah Masood, was assassinated. The Northern Alliance informed the Bush Administration that the ISI was allegedly implicated in the assassination, stating:

“A `Pakistani ISI-Osama-Taliban axis’ [was responsible] of plotting the assassination by two Arab suicide bombers…. `We believe that this is a triangle between Osama bin Laden, ISI, which is the intelligence section of the Pakistani army, and the Taliban,”

Thus the Afghans that would be fighting on the side of the U.S. in the upcoming war after 9/11 are on record with their belief that the ISI and Al Qaeda are intimately connected. Yet the Bush administration began operating with Pakistan and the ISI as an ally.

Not even the corporate media could whitewash these facts and so explained it away by alleging that U.S. officials had sought cooperation from Pakistan because it was the original backer of the Taliban, the hard-line Islamic leadership of Afghanistan accused by Washington of harboring Bin Laden.

Then the so called “missing link” came when it was revealed that the head of the ISI was the principal financier of the 9/11 hijackers.

In various terror attacks, alerts and foiled plots since 9/11, further links between Al Qaeda, the ISI and U.S. and British Intelligence have emerged.

As Professor Michel Chossudovsky has pointed out in his excellent expose, all these links are even corroborated by the House of Representatives International Relations Committee. A Statement in 2000 by Rep. Dana Rohrbacher, Hearing of The House International Relations Committee on “Global Terrorism And South Asia” highlighted that U.S. support funneled through the ISI to the Taliban and Osama bin Laden has been a consistent policy of the U.S. Administration since the end of the Cold War:

…[T]he United States has been part and parcel to supporting the Taliban all along, and still is let me add… You have a military government [of President Musharraf] in Pakistan now that is arming the Taliban to the teeth….Let me note; that [U.S.] aid has always gone to Taliban areas… We have been supporting the Taliban, because all our aid goes to the Taliban areas. And when people from the outside try to put aid into areas not controlled by the Taliban, they are thwarted by our own State Department… At that same moment, Pakistan initiated a major resupply effort, which eventually saw the defeat, and caused the defeat, of almost all of the anti-Taliban forces in Afghanistan.

Wikileaks War Logs Highlight Global Intelligence Facade Of War On Terror 140410banner4

In July 2007, Tom Fingar of the office of the Director of National Intelligence told a Congressional hearing that he believed the Bush administration was allowing the leadership of Al Qaeda to operate freely in Pakistan and had chosen not to disrupt its activities.

“It’s not that we lack the ability to go into that space, but we have chosen not to do so without the permission of the Pakistani government.” Fingar said.

Fingar’s claims were supported by the revelation that a secret military operation in early 2005 to capture senior members of Al Qaeda in Pakistan’s tribal areas was aborted at the last minute after top Bush administration officials decided it was too risky and could jeopardize relations with Pakistan.

“The U.S. has provided $5.6 billion in coalition support funds to Pakistan over the past five years, with zero accountability,” said Congressman Patrick Murphy, D-Pa., at the hearing.

“Why is Pakistan still being paid these large sums of money, even after publicly declaring that it is significantly cutting back patrols in the most important border area?” he asked.

Pakistan and the ISI is the go between of the global terror explosion. Pakistan’s military-intelligence apparatus, which literally created and sponsored the Taliban and Al Qaeda, is directly upheld and funded by the CIA. These facts are not even in dispute, neither in the media nor in government.

These facts were also recently highlighted by Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari, who admitted that the CIA and his country’s ISI together created the Taliban and are still providing support.

The Taliban’s spread into Pakistan has also been connected to intelligence driven plots to Balkanize the middle East.

When a whistleblower, Qari Zainuddin, a tribal leader of the South Waziristan, who defected from the Pakistani Taliban claimed that the group was working with U.S. intelligence to destabilize the country, he was assassinated just days later.

Last November, the LA Times, citing current and former U.S. officials, reported that the CIA has paid millions of dollars to the ISI since 9/11, accounting for as much as one-third of the foreign spy agency’s annual budget, and that the funding, initiated covertly under Bush, has continued under Obama.

A major London School of Economics study, released last year, also highlighted the ongoing relationship between the ISI and the Taliban.

The Pakistani ISI is a CIA front and controls terror cells at the discretion of the highest levels of the U.S. military-industrial complex.

There is a great need to perpetuate the mythical war on terror in order to maintain the pretext for the geopolitical genocide currently being undertaken by globalist advances into the middle east “rogue” (independent) nations.

As our governments assert that they are doing everything in their power to dismantle the global terror network, the reality is the exact opposite. The criminal intelligence networks assembled it, they sponsored it and they continue to fund it using our tax dollars. As any good criminal should, they have a middleman to provide plausible deniability. That middleman is the ISI and the military dictatorship of Pakistan.

Smith in Oregon   July 26th, 2010 11:17 pm ET

Hundreds of Billions of American taxpayer dollars being given to Pakistan during the utterly corrupt Republican administration of Bush-Cheney appears on official US Military documents placed on Wikileak tracking them to have funneled those free dollars to the Pakistani ISI spy agency who used that free money to equip, train and fund the Taliban killing American and NATO troops in Afghanistan.

White House spokesperson Gibbs is stating 'the present administration' has been fully aware of the US military information that was leaked and posted on Wikileak. Really? You knew Billions of free American taxpayer dollars were being funneled by the Pakistani ISI to the Taliban??! You knew American taxpayers were funding both sides of the Afghanistan War?

Doesn't this directly contradict the sworn oath CIA employees take to protect America? Here are US Military documents on Wikileak showing the CIA hip deep with the ISI and the ISI giving Billions of American taxpayer dollars to the Taliban who are using that free money to kill Americans.

John A   July 27th, 2010 12:34 pm ET

Smith incase you haven't figured it out, the USA and Israel have always aided supposed terror groups like Hamas and the Taliban in order to guarantee conflict and a chance for them to deploy their military into other peoples lands. Israel funded Hamas to split the PLO. America funded the Taliban to fight Russia. Israel and America funding such organizations is crucial for them always to have an enemy and a reason to go onto the offensive. They would claim to create enemies is patriotic, how else can they invade other peoples land?

Basically its a game of make a problem to fix a problem. This allows an opportunity to gain control of otherwise non threatening regions.

Unlike the BS Miriam and her Israeli friends will spread, the truth behind the self made war on terror is revealed in wikileaks.
No doubt Miriam will reply with her usual claims that it is all radicle Muslim propaganda to persecute those nuclear armed Israelis. What a joke!

miriam   July 27th, 2010 12:45 pm ET

Smith,

You have no problem expecting Israel and its taxpayers to provide finances and other material products to Hamas to kill Israelis on their door-step, so why do you suddenly find it absurd that US taxpayers might finance the Taliban?

While you've obsessively taken any opportunity to criticize US "tax dollars" going to its ally Israel, who partners and aids the US and its citizens, you've been oblivious to other claims of questionable funding.

Perhaps it's time to wake-up and watch what's going on in the world beyond the Jewish state.

Yusil   July 27th, 2010 3:36 pm ET

Moving forward Israel wants complete hegemony in the ME using US military power to eliminate major rivals in the area such as Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan and now Iran. Iran having nuclear power or the potential for nuclear weapons would defeat this strategy. The neutering of the United States has continued over the last 50 years due to the efforts of the Jewish lobbies and its allies the Evangelical movement in the US. Woe to any American politician who criticizes or actually goes against their aims.
One can only see the change in the Obama line against Iran, the Palestinians and the Islamic community in general. The official line worldwide resembles that of GW more and more. What happened to the diplomatic line of engagement? What happened to stopping Israeli settlements now? What happened to changing the face of America the dishonest broker?
The EU is marginalized due to its WWII guilt trip. As a result the International revulsions against the state of Israel.
The Marxist Abram Leon pointed out that anti-Semitism is not a timeless prejudice, but one that is recreated in different periods, as dictated by the needs of the ruling ideology of the day: each age has its own type of anti-Semitism. If we are now witnessing the emergence of a new anti-Semitism for the age of human rights, then the appropriate historical parallel is not traditional anti-Semitism, but the humanitarian hatred directed against the Zionists in the ME.
Looked at through humanitarian lenses, the problem in Gaza is the massive suffering resulting from Israel acting as a rogue state that flouts international law to impose its will on its Arab victims.

It would serve Iran well to protect itself.

Smith in Oregon   July 27th, 2010 10:29 pm ET

@ miriam, just like the Cubans in Miami, and the Hispanics in the Northwest States of America, I don't care if Americans chose to send their own money to Cuba, Mexico or Israel.

However, I have long (for many decades) protested and complained about American taxpayer dollars being freely given to create and fund wars and military expansions around the world, including in Israel.

Obviously I have actively protested against American taxpayer dollars being freely given to Pakistan which are funneled into Pakistan's ISI to the Taliban who use it to murder American, NATO troops and Afghanistan civilians.

In regards to any 'aid' Israel gives to America, that is extremely minimal at best. The vast number of spys in America happen to carry Israeli passports, and they often are simply deported without charges.

The Mossad rightly distrusts the CIA and rarely shares useful information which is actually unknown and highly beneficial. Meanwhile in the past 5 years, American taxpayers have fully funded an enormous anti-missile system around Israel spanning multiple regional nations and costing American taxpayers many, many Billions of dollars just for those anti-missile systems alone. The engineering and developmental planning likely cost American taxpayers 100x that amount.

Israel is a tiny country. It's relatively small population ranks a mere 23rd. in Gross National Income making it comparable to barely 3rd. world islands and nations such as Trinidad and Tobago.
23, Israel, 27040
24, Slovenia, 26340
25, Trinidad and Tobago, 2510

That doesn't appear to generate enough internal income to even pay for Israel's nuclear energy programs. The maintaince, repairs and upgrades on Israel's massive military weaponry and equipment alone would more than exhaust Israel's internal populations gross national income.

There are far more countrys in Africa and across the world that are not filled with blood feuds against their neighbors that need and deserve America's help to stave off famine, starvation and infant mortality.

miriam   July 29th, 2010 1:53 pm ET

Smith,

It's not clear what issue you seem to have with Israel's GNP.

Assuming you are refering to purchasing power, it is higher than any of her neighbours and many EU member countries, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Iran, India, Pakistan, Turkey and over 200 other countries!!!

That probably explains why Israel is able to repay nearly 80% of the military aid it receives from the US, back into the US economy unlike most of the other countries receiving US aid.

The US administration is happy to be involved in military research and development with an ally whose weapons and defense inventions can be exported and used by other nations around the world involved in unfortunate conflicts.

Despite hardships experiences by many Israelis in all sectors of the society and demands by every ministry for increased funding to improve the living standards and opportunities of the population as a whole, almost every Israeli is proud that their country is prepared to send aid ANYWHERE in the world where it is needed and will be distributed appropriately, including the WB and Gaza, as well as New Orleans, Haiti, The Congo, Indonesia, Micronesia and even Iran.

miriam   July 29th, 2010 2:52 pm ET

Yusil,

Many emergent ideologies have had to find a target for their excuse for not achieving the utopia they strive towards.

In almost every case the Jews have been the group accused (except when there are no Jews in that society, although sometimes that still doesn't stop them being the scape-goat).

The deliberate targeting of Jews is a timeless prejudice, with each generation and new ideology picking on the same group which continues surviving each ideology and its associated attempts to destroy it.

Modern "humanitarianism" has chosen the collective Jew as its scape-goat, following the tradition of earlier ideologies targeting the Jews.

Just as Medieval Catholicism, Marxism, Fascism, and Communism, to name a few, unsuccessfully sought to destroy the Jews and Judaism, so the misguided humanitarians of today who seek to delegitimize the Jewish state rather than help the needy of the world, will also fail and find themselves on the wrong side of history.

As I had repeatedly posted concerned comments about, Iran sinking a fully loaded Oil Supertanker in the shallow and narrow Strait of Hormuz effectively shutting down the Gulf for nations around the world depending on Saudi Oil for their daily energy needs.

Out of sight, out of Media Coverage, it appears Iran fired a practice hyper-speed torpedo at a Japanese Oil Supertanker that was fully loaded and passing thru the narrow and shallow Strait of Hormuz sending a clear message to the World but ignored at peril by Western News Media.

The fully loaded Japanese Oil Supertanker was leaving the Gulf meaning that impact area was facing the nearby shoreline of Iran in the narrow and shallow Strait of Hormuz.

The size of the impact, burn marks and placement on the Oil Tankers stern looks like Iran fired one of their Russian hyper-speed practice torpedo's at the Japanese Oil Supertanker. Iran used a known North Korean enemy as a real life target to send North Korea and the World a message they were certain would be heard. A message to North Korea stating Iran is ready if North Korea goes hot, a message to the World stating Iran is fully capable of closing the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran is sending a clear signal to the World that it will sink a fully loaded Oil Supertanker in the shallow Strait of Hormuz effectively plugging the entry way to the Saudi Oil ports which much of the world entirely depends on for it's daily crude Oil needs. Iran is reminding America and the World that would occur if America attacks Iran with multiple nuclear weapons on its many deep mountain military complexes. Iran is reminding America and the World that would occur if America attacks North Korea.

Iran has consistently made grandiose, false claims about its peaceful intentions.
Ahmadinejad says he wants to dialogue, says it is all for nuclear energy.
now he lies about nuclear fusion?
Why is the world so apathetic?
With the acquisition of a nuclear weapon, Iran will empower its terror proxies to attack Israel, Egypt, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia, leading to a Shiite Empire in the Middle East.
After accomplishing this task, Iran will spread outwards.
The world must cut the sprouting tree at its roots and destroy the nuclear facilities

Smith in Oregon   August 4th, 2010 8:04 am ET

@ Ariely, as I stated previously as Israel's neighbors populations and resources grow, Israel will be unable to push them around and murder their citizens with impunity.

Many of Israel's neighbors have considerable landmass and natural resources while Israel has neither. As the army's of Israel's neighbors increase along with their populations, Israel will be forced to either live peacefully beside them or respect their laws and wishes.

Israel's thugs pushing around unarmed impoverished civilians across the Middle East are coming to a halt. Let Israel eat it's US Main battle tanks and feed it's people with all the US Airforce fighter jets America has given to Israel the past 40 years.

China supplied Egypt with Nuclear Weapons before, don't think for a moment that won't ever happen again if Israel goes rabid with it's neighbors. Israel is a tiny country and a dozen nuclear weapons from one of it's attacked neighbors would reduce Israel to one large glow in the dark sand dune.

Smith in Oregon   August 4th, 2010 8:11 am ET

@ Paul, Bush jr. handed Saddams head and most of the Iraqi Government on a silver platter to Iran, the biggest grand prize any country could possibly give to Iran. Does that make Bush-Cheney enemy's of Israel? Iran got much stronger with Iraq's new government and Iran's influence now is much larger as well thanks entirely to Bush-Cheney. So Paul, is the Mossad going to pay a visit to Bush-Cheney now?

Ariely   August 4th, 2010 5:38 pm ET

The Arabs/Iranian actions roots are from Islamist aggressive ideology
Israel actions roots are form a defending tiny defending country.

Unfortunately, sometimes a few Israelis are getting out of control due to the endless destruction pressure.
However the action of the few- out of the Israeli peace consensus cannot be compared to the action of the all Arabs and part of Iranians driven by the destroy and kill idiology

Expect escalation

Arabs/Iran are playing the traditional ME policy of diverting people attention from their problems toward the defending Israel

Arab populations is easily manipulated by leaders against an imaginary enemy

1: Hisbula is expected to be blamed as being involved in Hariri killing?

2: Islamic Iran ideology of world domination is under increasing international pressure?
Hisbula- Syria –Hamas to fire on the defending Israel

3:Islamic Iran declaration to destroy Israel

Attack and Blame Israel?? -- Attack and Blame Israel????

Think once again
Stop being a peon

Smith-- you really don't have a clue, do you ???

The Israeli battle tanks are Merkevas-- Israeli designed and manufactured.

Funny how some people think that Israel can't do for them selves.

But these are the same people who don't have a clue to what Israel supplies to the rest of the world.

Robert   August 6th, 2010 5:16 pm ET

Thank you Mr Israeli Prime Minister for ONCE AGAIN trying to drag the United States into your petty wars. Like you can't see that the US has PLENTY of it's own problems. Like you can't tell that people here are sick to death of your eternal warmongering and want no part of it.

There is no doubt that Arab terrorists are no better than bloodthirsty monkeys, selfishly fixated on their "72 virgins", killing indiscriminately. There is no doubt that they are dangerous. Thing is YOU made them that way. And your continual, continual, continual harassment of them is meant solely to keep the issue going and Israel in the spotlight. What is it that you are trying to gain with your never ending provocative, antagonizing behavior? Why is it that you feel that of the middle eastern countries only Israel should be allowed nuclear weapons? Why do you insist on demonizing everyone around you rather than acknowledging their right to exist. Do you have aspirations for a Arab-free middle east? Do you just see yourselves in charge and all of them bowing down as your slaves? Or are you hoping to provoke an Armageddon?

Israel has become a plague on the world. Note that I don't say that Jews are a plague on the world since they are individually no better or worse than anyone else. That distinction needs to be made because of all the anti-semites out there. No I mean that Israel and it's leadership are a blight on this planet. A threat to peace. A wart on the butt of the world.

Turkey signed the $688 million contract with Israel’s IMI on March 29, 2002, for the modernization of 170 US M-A1 main battle tanks in the face of severe criticism for giving the project to Israel at the expense of local Turkish industry. Defense industry bureaucrats were forced to put their signature to the contract. The facts indicate that each tank was to cost $4.2 million.

Good thing Israel got ton's of free US main battle tank parts for that nifty $688 million dollar contract, huh Filipe?

Smith in Oregon   August 6th, 2010 10:37 pm ET

@ Filipe, Israel is a small country with very few resources. They do with what is given to them for free or what they grudgingly have to pay for. Nearly every State in America dwarf's Israel and it is crass and callous to play it up like Israel has the population and the resources like the entire State of California.

@ Ariely, now that Iran has largely taken over Iraq's government due to Bush-Cheney's destruction of Iran's enemy, Saddam. Can we expect Israel to bulldoze and demolish Bush jr's and Dick Cheney's homes now?

Islam is carrier for Nazi ideology in 21st century-Nazi leaders words
------------------------------–
Nazi Head Himmler stated:

Islam educates men and promises them heaven if they fight and are killed in action.

A very practical and attractive religion for soldiers

Himmler, Head of SS established Islamic Institute (‘Islamische Zentralinstitut’) in Dresden under the Mufti.

The purpose was to create a generation of Islamic leaders that would continue to use Islam as a carrier for Nazi ideology into the 21st century

miriam   August 8th, 2010 12:19 pm ET

Wilson,

Judaism is saturated with prayers to return to Zion and practices that are only relevent to the Holy Land.

Why deny the Jews the right to practise their great religion?

False, deliberately insensitive accusation displays a lack of respect.

Smith in Oregon   August 10th, 2010 1:03 am ET

@ Ariely, Hitler himself gave and delivered 'Christian' prayers to his German troops and over his German troops prior to action. Doesn't that make Christianity then 'evil' as you logic shows Islam is evil because Himmler looked upon it favorably?

I have photos of Hitler being warmly welcomed to a Berlin New Year's party by the Pope at that time. I have seen photos of Himmler and his fellow henchmen being given the Nazi salute by several Catholic Cardinals and Bishops in the middle of what appears to be a ongoing Christian Mass. There certainly appears to be active collaboration between the Catholic Church and Hitlers Germany.

Ariely, have you demanded the Pope and the Vatican Bank return the Billions of stolen Nazi Gold bullion stored in the Vatican Bank to the Jewish and Romanian Gypsy's that was taken from by the Nazi's some 70 years ago?

Ariely   August 10th, 2010 9:06 am ET

Hitler usually concluded this historical speculation by remarking:

'You see, it's been our misfortune to have the wrong religion

Why didn't we have the Mohammedan religion?
-----------------------

It would have been much more compatible to us than Christianity

Why did it have to be Christianity with its meekness and flabbiness?

The difference between Ariely and Hitler.

Smith in Oregon   August 10th, 2010 10:02 pm ET

If such a quote is even remotely accurate Ariely, it would appear Adolph Hitler was not a historian. Christian armies, missionary's and priests waged genocide on the native peoples in South and North America, Caribbean Islands, Polynesian Islands and more recently in Rwanda.

The Christian calvary soldiers were directly referred to by Hitler's manifesto as his inspiration for the genocide of the Jewish, Romanian and gypsy people in Europe. The Christian calvary soldiers made a great many ornaments from the skins and organs of Native women, children and men. Far more than simply their scalps and far more depraved and disgusting to mention here. It appears Adolph Hitler was fully aware of those practices as well and they were also practiced on their torture victims resulting in lampshades among other items composed of the skin of their victims.

Given the huge scope of the murders and enslavement of the indigenous peoples of South and North American alone, I suspect your quote about Hitler's stating Christianity as meek and flabby is utterly false and self-serving. The Jewish theme of 'our God is bigger and badder than your God' is entirely found in such a 'purported' comment and yet another strong indicator it is entirely false.

Smith in Oregon   August 11th, 2010 10:09 pm ET

Israel is pushing to attack Iran on their own as reported today by CNN's Wolf Blitzer. Go Ahead, make Iran's day Israel, but STOP begging and demanding America's Military to do that for YOU.

Israel has conveniently angered Turkey so much by executing 9 Turkish civilians on the Turkish flagged cargo ship during the recent peace flotilla carrying food and medical supply's to Gaza residents that Turkey has shut-down Israeli Jet's from entering Turkey's immense air-space.

Turkey would be entirely in their international legal rights to shoot down all Israeli fighter jet's entering any of Turkey's airspace and with Russia in nearby Georgia with anti-aircraft missile batterys, Turkey could call upon Russia for help to do that also. I could imagine Israeli screaming and yelling about Turkey shooting down the Israeli Fighters in Turkey's airspace with Turkey's anti-aircraft missiles, seems karmic after Israel executed Turkish civilians in international waters on a Turkish civilian cargo ship.

Turkey's closure of its airspace to Israel make Israeli's threats simply empty hateful rants that are lacking substantive reality unless President Obama would be tricked into attacking Iran alone which America hopes he is intelligent enough to not do. Enough of the world hates America now, let them hate Israel for closing down the Gulf and throwing dozens of nations into a economic freeze as they run out of Oil reserves.

miriam   August 12th, 2010 9:44 pm ET

Smith,

Speculators who are too chicken to admit that they want to see Israel do the dirty work are suggesting that Israel may attack Iran.

Israeli aircraft still fly through Turkish airspace as required by European air agreements.

Turkey has been cooling towards Israel ever since the current Turkish government came tro power. The flotilla raid was the result of just another in a string of government-backed anti-Israel provocations.

What international law would permit the shooting down of another state's fighter jets entering their airspace without warning when not engaged in an open war? The Turks would have had their jets shot down frequently by the Greeks!

International law does, however, permit the boarding of ships in international waters that are deliberately breaking a blockade imposed on an enemy entity by a sovereign army defending her citizens, and allows for commandos to protect themselves from premeditated attack.

mike   August 13th, 2010 9:27 pm ET

WHY ON EARTH DOES AMERICA FEED AND HELP THE TALIBAN TO KILL OUR YOUNG SOLDIERS? AMERICA YOU HAVE ALREADY LOST THE WAR IN AFGHANISTAN! AND SOON THEM PAKISTANI RAGHEADS WILL HAVE HOMES IN NEW YORK, WHILE THE AVERAGE AMERICAN WILL BE UNEMPLOYED! SHAME TO THE GREAT SATAN!

Smith in Oregon   August 13th, 2010 11:25 pm ET

Turkey is permitting Israel's civilian passenger jets to enter Turkey's airspace, it is not permitting Israel's fighter jets and war planes from doing so.

Any country that has ordered another country to not enter it's airspace with fighter jets or war planes has the legal right to fire on those fighter jets or war planes who have committed an act of war by entering that protected airspace after being told to not do so.

I hope Russia has supplied the advanced mid-range S-300 anti-aircraft missile batterys to each of Iran's multiple sites which Iran purchased and paid for sometime ago.

Turkey has already denied Israeli fighter jets from entering any of it's immense air-space, I hope Turkey has the sense to also install Russia's S-300 anti-aircraft missile batterys to shoot down as many Israeli fighter jets that enter it's airspace as Turkey can.

After Israel executed 9 of the Turkish civilians on the Turkish flagged civilian cargo ship filled with food and medical supplys for the Gazan people, it would seem like KARMA if Turkey knocked some Israeli fighter plans out of the sky that were illegally flying over their country to bomb Iran.

Russia has S-300 anti-aircraft missile batterys nearby Turkey's border in Georgia, perhaps Russia could help Turkey drive back an fighter jet wave from Iran with Russia's help also.

Israel knows full well that bombing an operating civilian electrical power nuclear reactor would spread radiation and contaminate that entire region with nuclear fallout. I imagine a great many of the children that would be effected by such a unwarranted attack would become poster children seen around the world as Israel's allies drop to solely that of America.

Smith in Oregon   August 14th, 2010 7:40 am ET

Iran doesn't have the technology to even make a reactor fuel rod, they certainly don't have the much more advanced technology to produce a plutonium nuclear trigger. Iran doesn't have the Uranium Ore to produce 100 lbs of highly enriched U235.

No way are country's going to allow Iran to import several million tons of Uranium yellow cake which would would needed by Iran to produce 100 lbs of highly enriched U235. Stopping such large mineral barges is already taken care of and totally effective. That problem is already solved.

Russia will not permit Iran to chemically extract the Plutonium U239 from the spent medical reactor fuel rods, that problem is already solved.

Lastly, all nations signing the Non proliferation treaty have the international legal right to civilian commercial nuclear reactors for radiological medicine and electrical power. Iran has signed the NPT, has Israel?

miriam   August 15th, 2010 2:43 pm ET

Smith,

The NPT also forbids the proliferation of nuclear weapons.

Why has Iran signed it?

Iran has lied repeatedly about her nuclear development whether for peaceful purposes or otherwise.

Violation of the treaty is worse than not signing it.

Do you really believe the deception by the Iranian leadership or is it simply an anti-Israel, anti American, anti-Western knee-jerk reaction?

Mario   August 16th, 2010 7:20 pm ET

miriam?
I'm from the West and don't believe what Iran is doing is Anti-Western. Obviously you are not from the West and have no clue what the majoirty of people here believe.

Not signing a tready shows nefarious intentions. Is that why Israel never signs any? As a result it feels it can do what it wants and then blames everyone else of consequences?

Smith in Oregon   August 16th, 2010 10:55 pm ET

Miriam, has Israel signed the NPT treaty or not?

Israel's recent bulldozing of a well known Islamic cemetery to plant more illegal apartments in Jerusalem in Palestinian territory is yet another sad and extremely callous move by Israel to further anger the Arabic people in the Middle East which American's pay for with their lives.

It appears Israel would have to fly their refueling tankers and fighter jet's thru Jordan to reach Saudi Arabian airspace to refuel on their way to Iran. I'm not sure if Jordan wants that kind of heat as nearly all of Jordan's neighbors would turn against Jordan as a direct result.

Egypt's air radar defense would immediately spot the Israel fighters long before they reached their targets in Iran and just as likely give Iran a heads up communication.

With Israel recently bulldozing a well known old Islamic cemetery in Palestine to crassly build more illegal Israeli apartments right over the Islamic graves, it seems Israel is actively pushing for another war like a bully in a grade school.

Smith in Oregon   August 17th, 2010 11:20 pm ET

Russia will begin helping Iran load nuclear fuel rods into the civilian Bushehr nuclear reactor this Saturday. If Israel were to bomb the civilian Bushehr reactor after the fuel rods are loaded, that would likely spread radioactive fallout thru-out that region, greatly bringing direct condemnation on Israel thru-out the entire Middle East.

Previously Israel bombed Iraq's civilian nuclear reactor just prior to it's being loaded with fuel rods and operational. Israel also bombed an alleged fuel rod conversion plant in Syria before it was fully operational. Odd's are that Israel will do the same to Iraq, however there is much more at stake with both Russia and China's interest in Iran and North Korea closely following the affairs in Iran.

Iran has leased and purchased some of the worlds most advanced tunneling machines and has used them to build extensive military complexes deep within Iranian mountains making them entirely immune to conventional bunk-busting aerial bombs. Each of those would take Multiple Nuclear bombs to destroy them. Israel could attack them with conventional bunker busting aerial bombs in a crass and callous attempt to draw America into a war against Iran, but that would only anger Iran and do nothing in regards to destroying those targets.

Meanwhile America has massed a large Naval 'war-games' off the shore of Korea. Obviously the overwhelming concern by the US Military is that Israel attacks Iran and North Korea attacks South Korea in response. Many American lives hang in the balance and Iran is following the NPT International treaty entirely. When is Israel held to obeying International Laws?

Russian inspectors and engineers would likely be killed and undoubtedly Russia would respond by placing S-300 advanced anti-aircraft missile battery's across Iran's military complex sites which Iran has allegedly already paid Russia for but have not received delivery of them.

It looks like yet another difficult week for international affairs brought on by Israel's current war drumming government. Under International Law, Iran has signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and has International legal rights to obtain and use civilian nuclear reactors for Science, Medical and Electrical Power generation purposes. When is the world going to hold and force Israel to obey International Laws?

John A   August 18th, 2010 7:31 pm ET

Iran has provided the United States with an opportunity to make sure it does not gain the nuclear material required to make a bomb. Do you think the Obama administration will take advantage of the opportunity?
Not likely.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said Tuesday that Iran is ready to cooperate with “any country,” including the United States, in building nuclear power plants in Iran, according to Press TV. Mehmanparast was asked if Iran would work with the United States on the country’s nuclear projects and he responded “we are ready to cooperate with any company from any country which is capable of building such facilities with high standard.”

“These are big economic projects and there will certainly be much competition between different countries,” he said.

In May of this year, Secretary of State Clinton dismissed an offer by Iran to swap some of its enriched uranium for reactor fuel. Clinton said the Iranian offer — and attempt to prevent the bombing of its country — was a “transparent ploy” to avoid a fresh round of U.N. Security Council sanctions. The swap offer was negotiated by Brazil and Turkey, which are opposed to new U.N. sanctions on Iran.

Iran has not dabbled in a nuclear weapons program since 2003 and according to a U.S. intelligence report issued in 2007 is not likely to be able to produce enough enriched uranium for a bomb until 2010 to 2015.

Having A Supply Of Healthy Foods That Last Just Makes Sense

Desperately Seeking Accommodation: Iran Offers U.S. Chance to Build Nuclear Power Plants 140410banner4

But these facts are irrelevant to the United States and especially Israel. It should be obvious by now the objective is not to make certain Iran does not develop a nuclear weapon, but rather to cobble together a pretext for an attack levied against the country.

The neocons have pushed for turning Iran into a rubble strewn parking lot for well over a decade. In a policy paper some have compared to Hitler’s Mein Kampf, key neocons call for confronting Iran in the same way Iraq was confronted — or maybe that should be leveled (with over a million dead people).

“Over the long term, Iran may well prove as large a threat to U.S. interests in the [Persian] Gulf as Iraq has. And even should U.S.-Iranian relations improve, retaining forward-based forces in the region would still be an essential element in U.S. security strategy given the longstanding American interests in the region,” the neocons stated in Rebuilding America’s Defenses: Strategies, Forces, and Resources For a New Century, dated September, 2000.

The Israeli-centric neocons — and no shortage of both Republicans and Democrats in Congress (many beholden to AIPAC) — believe Iran is pursuing a nuclear bomb and if they get one will use it against Israel on the day after tomorrow. In other words, they believe (or would have us believe) Iran is a nation ruled by insane people who have a death wish.

The Bush era neocons and their fellow travelers in Congress know Iran is not only incapable of building a nuclear weapon, but also not stupid enough to attack Israel — even with conventional weapons. Iran is not ruled by mentally ill suicides.

Israel and the United States will attack Iran for the same reason the U.S. (with much Israeli prodding) attacked Iraq — to level the country, turn it into an enfeebled third world backwater, decimate its civil infrastructure, and reduce its thriving population through disease, malnutrition, and cancer brought about by the wanton use of depleted uranium.

It was no mistake Bush’s Pentagon targeted Iraq’s water and sanitation systems. It was no accident hospitals and schools were targeted. After the green light is signaled, the bombing will not be restricted to a handful of nuclear facilities. It will go countrywide. Iran will suffer a repeat of what the criminal neocons did to Iraq. Democrats like Hillary Clinton will help make it so. The mass murder of Iranians will be a bi-partisan affair.

Smith in Oregon   August 18th, 2010 11:52 pm ET

America is pulling out its combat troops and equipment out of Iraq as it ends it's long combat mission in Iraq War 2.

Just in time for Israel to bomb the civilian nuclear power reactor before the Russian scientists and Russian engineers begin loading in the reactor fuel rods this Saturday. Israel and all the nations around the world know that bombing the reactor after the nuclear fuel rods are loaded would engulf that entire region in radioactive fallout which would bring extremely harsh condemnation and penalty's by the Arabic neighbors of Israel.

It seems America just can't even catch their breath regarding the US Military complex. Much less a break. While I doubt WW3 is going to begin this weekend, very few Americans realize Israel and America bombing a civilian Russian built Nuclear Reactor in Iran would join both Russia and China solidly against America. Israel appears to not care how many American lives would be lost, but American's living on Main Street, USA should.

I'm fairly certain Iran upping the stakes (partnered with China, N. Korea, Russia) is going to force Israel to back down and not attack that civilian Russian built nuclear power reactor. Iran is fully protected and under International Laws to have and use Nuclear Reactors for civilian use after Iran signed the Non Proliferation Treaty, NPT some years ago.

Smith in Oregon   August 20th, 2010 7:50 am ET

It is entirely refreshing to see Israel pushed away from the table as Iran calls their bluff and begin's final configuration and operation start-up of it's Russia built Nuclear Reactor.

Despite open threats and the executions of 9 Turkish peace flotilla civilians by Israel, it appears Turkey is continuing to broker a deal between Brazil and Iran for nuclear fuel rods for operation start-up of Iran's American built Medical Reactor.

With Israel bulldozing a old well known Islamic cemetery in Jerusalem recently to plant additional illegal Israeli settlements and apartment complexes on Palestinian lands, it seems Israel really does not have any sincerity about the upcoming peace talks in Washington DC. That seems rather callous of Israel as the number of American lives continue to be lost as a result of the unrest in the Middle East.
