Tehran, Iran (CNN) – Iran said Sunday it fired five new types of locally-made coast-to-sea and sea-to-sea missiles in the last stage of its "Great Prophet 5" military maneuvers in the Persian Gulf.

The missiles were fired simultaneously and struck a single target at the same time - a feat the Revolutionary Guard Corps described to the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting as "very important."

The military exercises on Sunday also included high-speed boats waging a "war" against a warship.

The maneuvers fell on the 31st anniversary of the elite force and were designed to demonstrate new weapons systems.

Brig. Gen. Hossein Salami, deputy chief of the Revolutionary Guard told Iranian media that the exercises were aimed at demonstrating Iran's "strength, will and national resolve to defend independence and territorial integrity."

The U.S. military official noted there have been several Iranian exercises in the past, but this one received attention because the Revolutionary Guard Corps discussed it publicly in advance.

The U.S. Navy currently is operating several warships in the region, and commanders are often reminded not to let any encounters with Iranians inadvertently escalate.

Iran's missile development is being watched closely by the United States, which is pressing for tougher sanctions against the Islamic republic for its controversial nuclear program.

The last two words do not exist in the charter.

When terrorist proxies engage in attacks, the argument for self-defense is irrelevent.

In addition, terrorist proxies are not included in the UN understanding of collective self-defense.

miriam   April 26th, 2010 10:20 am ET

Why not quote article 42?

Sharon   April 26th, 2010 9:31 pm ET

The future is so predictable. A bomb rocks Washington D.C., immediately western media will implicate Iran was acting in collaboration with the ghost of Osama bin Laden. And few days later a video of the attack will surface and show Israelis filming the explosion, with laugher and dancing at the success of the terror blast in DC. Just like 911 all over again, apart from this time Israel will sucker America into a fight with Iran.

If the American public falls for such political manipulation again, then frankly they deserve to have their economy bogged down in pointless conflict. The big question is will Americans really be so stupid as to believe more false flag CIA and Mossad attacks? Will Americans continue to think the biggest threat to world peace comes in the form of poverty stricken Muslims, who live in caves and whose most deadly weapons are a pair of worn out sandals?

Ernie Gabo   April 27th, 2010 10:47 am ET

Iran is clear to their intent. They run their true agenda in the back curtain. Their intention is to retake the kingdom of Israel at all cost. They will deceive many and blood will be shed. But their stubbornest will consumed them.

proud zionist   April 27th, 2010 12:19 pm ET

you are so knowledgeable about certain videos, they must have been staged by you!

Yusil   April 27th, 2010 3:44 pm ET

Iran as a sovereign nation has every right to have war games. The US does not ask Iran for permission when it holds war games which is often. Israel, as terrorist proxy of the US is then not included in the UN understanding of collective self defence.
Ps article 41 goes hand in hand with article 42. Don’t be so selective to make your propaganda points.

miriam   April 29th, 2010 5:45 am ET

Who has denied Iran the right to perform military exercises?

Israel is a sovereign nation and has the same rights as any other sovereign nation.
She happens to be the West's first line of defence but that doesn't make her anybody's proxy.

proud zionist   April 29th, 2010 8:09 pm ET

you speak nonsense, as usual. Iran needs missiles with 5000 miles range for self-defense? hahahahahahahaha
they threaten to wipe Israel off the map, all in self-defense, of course, right Yusil?????

FutureUSMCOfficer   April 30th, 2010 1:35 pm ET

The fact remains Iran is guilty of supporting terrosrist groups that launch attacks against Israeli civilians. I want to say that i might not agree with the principle of Israel being so oppressive to the arabian people within its borders but the fundamentalist attitude of the Iranian government is evidence that they want nothing but all out war.

Sharon   May 2nd, 2010 12:40 pm ET

Hi FutureUSMCOfficer, your brain has been soaked in neocon bs.

The only nuclear state in the ME is Israel. The only state in the ME which perpetuates war is Israel. The only state in the ME that won’t sign a nuclear arms agreement is Israel.

And Future US Marines Corps Officers will die fighting on behalf of the rogue state of Israel. Your ignorance is no defense, if you raise US arms against Iran you have become as evil as the Zionists.

Sharon   May 2nd, 2010 12:43 pm ET

Mr future marine, our constitution asks you to protect America NOT Israel. So don't betray America by attacking Iran as Iran is not a threat to American security

miriam   May 4th, 2010 8:00 am ET

The obvious objective view of FutureUSMCOfficer is far more logical than the lies, presumptions and distortions of the libertarian conspiracy theorists.

There's an enormous difference between Israel's policy of ambiguity and the deceptive signing of agreements by Iran, Iraq, Syria..... that they go on to secretly violate.

Wars have been going on in the ME for centuries, most not involving Israel or the Jews. A narrow view with such accusations is simply bigoted.

Whether Israel does or does not have nuclear weapons, neither you nor I know, however, Israel's nuclear programme began long before the NPT was created and subsequently violated by many of its signatories.

Yusil   May 4th, 2010 8:07 pm ET

What is the reason for Israel's policy of ambiguity?
Wars have been going on in the world not involving Israel. Israel did not exist. Since its creation Israel has worked overtime to catch up. Jews however have been actively involved in one way or another in every country on the planet in every war.
Why should Israel not join the NPT? Iran has not violated any provisions of the NPT, do you have proof, like WMD's in Iraq? The Israeli security service forwarded that lie to the Americans.

miriam   May 10th, 2010 9:52 am ET

Are you the only person on this planet to believe that Iran, Iraq etc haven't violated the NPT?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Blaming the Jews for everything is a centuries old, false excuse.

John A   May 10th, 2010 10:07 pm ET

Miriam when you suggest that Iraq has violated the NPT, you have taken your stupidity to a new dimension.

And you have less proof of Iranian nuclear arms than there is of Israels nuclear arms.

You have less proof of Iranian nuclear arms than their is proof of Israels responsibility for the Dubai assassination of Mahmoud al-Mabhouh.

So please take your hypocritical whining, crying and woe to Israel BS and put it where the sun doesn't shine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

proud zionist   May 12th, 2010 10:00 am ET

John A

you woke up? simply reverted to your old name?

your hypocritical whining and crying about Israel becomes so boring that nobody reads your BS anymore.

The fact remains that IRAN is the only country who has threatened to wipe Israel off the map, denies the holocaust and persecutes minority religions, like the Bahai.

The fact is that Israel has never threatened to wipe any sovereign state off the map and has complete freedom of religion (ask the Bahais, for example).

The fact is that you are nothing but a liar working as a mouthpiece for Muslim terror

miriam   May 12th, 2010 12:43 pm ET

John A,

You have demonstrated your ignorance as to what the NPT is and what is requires, and consequently the multitude of countries that have violated articles of the treaty.

You are obsessed with proof of Iranian nuclear weapons.
Iran does not yet have any, but they have still violated the NPT along with Iraq, Libya, Syria, N. Korea and all those who have assisted and seeked assistance with nuclear weapons.

Who's stupid now?

John A   May 13th, 2010 10:19 am ET

Iran has never said it would wipe Israel of the map. The correct translation would be, "Iran hopes that the Zionists in Israel would fall from the page of history".

The wipe of the map bs was a silly American translation, which was supported by Israel to create sympathy for Israel attacking another neighbor. A bit like weapons of mass destruction bs in Iraq. This is a fact, please call CNN and Fox news as both have admitted the translation originally presented was false. So Zionist you are either a liar (most likely) or ignorant of fact (probably your both)

Proud Zionist, asking for the Nazis to fall from the page of history is not the same as asking for Germany to be wiped of the map. But cowardly Israel wants America to fight Iran, simply because of Jewish racial hatred for Arabs.

John A   May 13th, 2010 10:25 am ET

Miriam I'm not obsessed with Iran, you are the one who wants bomb them for no good reason.

And your ignorance over the nuclear proliferation treaty is clear. Iraq never had weapons of mass destruction, that was a lie. There is no proof that Iran is close to having them. Even the American military claim this wont happen for 10 years, but they have been claiming that since the 60'S.

Israel has not broken the NPT agreement, because they would not even sign it. But because a criminal does not sign compliance with international laws, that does not mean they are not criminals.

miriam   May 13th, 2010 12:09 pm ET

John A,

Once again, your historical knowledge is limited.

Osirak 1981?

Again, the NPT goes beyond possessing or not possessing a nuclear weapon.

What about the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties of 1969?

Whatever the translation of Ahmadinajad's rants, whether wiping, eliminating, a map or a government (which has since changed), there is no doubt that he has repeatedly threatened and insulted the Jewish state and Jews world-wide, while proudly but deceivingly showing off the Iranian Jews who live in fear and repression just like many other Iranians.

Israel does not want to bomb Iran, She worries about a nuclear weapon in the possession of a theocratic dictatorship, that supports terrorism world-wide and which is intent on world domination and strict dhimmitude, if not forced conversion, in preparation for the welcome the 12th Imam.

proud zionist   May 13th, 2010 7:11 pm ET

John A

the only criminal is you, for falsifying history, for repaeting arab lies ad nauseum, for reciting anti-semitic slogans that would make goebbels proud, for denying israel the right to exist

you are the criminal, live with it!

Ariely   May 14th, 2010 11:13 am ET

Miriam, you asked "Who's stupid now"?

Clearly the answer is you are Miriam.

All countries are allowed to pursue peaceful nuclear energy. There is no proof whatsoever that Iran has not complied with this concept. There is no proof that Iraq ever developed anything illegally nuclear or broke the NPT.

Israel on the other hand is the only country without the balls to be honest about their nuclear weapons. We all know they have them, because they were supplied the technology to build the bomb by France and America.

Once more you ask who is stupid now.

Ariely   May 14th, 2010 11:36 am ET

Proud Zionist wrote, "John A, you woke up? simply reverted to your old name?

your hypocritical whining and crying about Israel becomes so boring that nobody reads your BS anymore".
Proud Zionist I read John A's comments because they are interesting. Ironically you seem to be the only one whining and crying with nothing to say. And clearly when you speak about Iran and Iraq you have confused the word "fact" with "lie". Why do you feel the need to lie about Iran? They pose no threat to anyone. Do you really think Iran could launch a low tech nuke at Israel? Iran would be wiped out with US weaponry before any old nuclear Scud missile of theirs could get of the ground.

The idea of Iran posing a threat is the most preposterous lie since the one about Iraq being a threat. So please knock off all your war mongering woe to Israel nonsense. Its juvenile, misguided and utter rubbish Zionist propaganda that you write.

And I write as an Israeli who is sick of right wing war mongering Israelis giving all of us a bad name.

Orthodox Jews gain subsidies from government to study religion. Can you believe that! These extreme religious Jewish fanatics are mostly unemployed, subsidized by the state and have nothing to do all day but hurl insults and start trouble. When trouble is returned to them, they go running to Uncle Sam for protection and cry woe to Israel. Disgraceful people!!

Fanatical orthodox Jews are the cancer of the middle east and all moderate Jew will agree with this.

As a Jew, I would like to apologies for the radicle Zionists on this blog page. They shame our religion and our country, but we are not all like them !!!!

miriam   May 17th, 2010 6:08 am ET

You must live in some ideological bubble, typical of the radical left of Israeli political opinion who hate anything Zionist or religious.

You have deliberately misled the neutral readers of this blog with your allegations against the religious, foolishly lumping together Jews belonging to a spectrum of political ideas.

It's about time people like you ventured into real Israel, beyond the metropolitan boundaries of TA or perhaps isolated reasearch centres in the Negev.

Along with your mouth-piece Ha'aretz, it is the far left in Israel who damage Israel and prefer to see the Iranian sponsored caliphate eliminating the Jewish state, denying democracy the right to self-defence and rule of law but simultaneously propagating the myths of those who want to destroy your own state.

Brian   May 19th, 2010 10:31 am ET

Miriam you attack Muslims, Christians and now you attack moderate Jews!!
Do you have any time for kindness and progress or is Zionist Israel just about attacking defenceless people?

Yusil   May 19th, 2010 3:38 pm ET

You have repeatedly stated: "in preparation for the welcome the 12th Imam. Do you have proof of this statement? You quipped: "--–Iran, Iraq etc haven't violated the NPT?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. I have asked you why Israel has not joined the NPT. You never answer the question. If you refer to the above countries as having violated the NPT (I asked again for proof), then Israel definitely has violated the objectives and spirit of the NTP. Israel refused because it would never subject itself to the NPT rules!!!!!! These countries have inspections unlike Israel. North Korea has had inspections on and off but having the bomb they feel no need for such details which makes North Korea and Israel a rogue nations as such regular conventions and laws are disregarded by these nations.

miriam   May 19th, 2010 8:14 pm ET

I don't attack anyone for their religion.

I defend Israel from the warped ideologies of those who use their beliefs to attack Zionism, Israel or Judaism.

miriam   May 19th, 2010 8:29 pm ET

I have once mentioned above the statements I have heard made by Iranian leaders.

Why did Iraq have a nuclear facility at Osirak?
Why did Iran build secret nuclear facilities at Natanz, Qum etc?
Why did Syria have a nuclear facility identical to such in North Korea?

All these were in violation of the NPT which they had signed, committing themselves not to engage in undeclared nuclear activities.

Any other country that has likewise investigated, off the record, the possibility of nuclear development, or have been consulted for such activity are also in violation of the NPT.

No country can be forced to sign a treaty, under the Vienna Convention on the Laws of Treaties.

Israel, along with India and Pakistan have upheld that right not to have to sign the NPT and thereby also not to violate it.

Israel has a deliberate policy of ambiguity, which is as good a deterrent as claiming she does or does not have any nuclear weapons.
