GAZA CITY, Gaza (CNN) - Israeli tanks rolled into Gaza City from two directions early Tuesday after U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called on both sides in the conflict to "just stop."

Ban heads to the Middle East today to try to get both sides to adhere to a ceasefire.

The Israeli military reported several clashes between its troops and Hamas fighters and said at least 30 Palestinian combatants were killed or wounded.

Meanwhile, Israeli warplanes and helicopter gunships struck 60 targets overnight, the Israel Defense Forces said.

"We are tightening the encirclement of the city," Brig. Eyal Eisenberg, commander of the Israeli offensive, told a small group of reporters brought in to Gaza to observe the deployment.

Yes thats what Israel is all about Destruction. Its sad that the Jews who felt they were facig a holocaust by Hitler would trun around and commit a worst holocaust on the Palestinians.

Professor   January 13th, 2009 1:23 pm ET

The failure of the Israeli Occupying Forces has entered its third stage... and its digging the Israeli grave deeper in the world opinion.

Professor   January 13th, 2009 1:25 pm ET

Its the occupation stupid...

Joan   January 13th, 2009 1:28 pm ET

'Just stop' is the best idea I've heard, but good ideas are not embraced here.

aedi   January 13th, 2009 1:33 pm ET

be smart. the world is heading to the worst economic crisis since 1930.
If Israel continues to act like a psycopath it will engage anti-semitic violence against jews around the globe which will force them to consider their right to "return" to Israel.

This is all about collecting more people guys, this is not about peace, it's a fact. Argentina crisis worked very well, Livni knows it. Now imagine a global crisis with some anti-semitic violence, that's quite a good deal for Israel Gov expansionism business. Global crisis is a GOLD oportunity for zionist expansionism that can't be ignored or left in hands of G..

GLeigh   January 13th, 2009 1:36 pm ET

The Holocaust killed millions. The extermination in Darfur hundreds of thousands. This isn't either really. The Palestinian goal is to destroy Israel and take the land. Israel is going to go quietly. If Hamas would stop its rockets and let in unbiased world monitors, maybe this would stop. I think Israel would agree, as long as the monitors weren't other Palestinians and unbiased. It would be nice to see the bloodshed in Gaza stop.

Joan   January 13th, 2009 1:36 pm ET

"its the occupation stupid'

the same old broken record taha isn't working. It's not the occupation, it's the poor leadership.

Does anyone think that if Hamas could destroy Israel, they would be happy and live in peace and builfdup the PAlestinians, People who hate and want to destry will only find another enemy and continue the same cycle.

SureluyHamas knows that , after 911, the Bush government cannot tell Israel that they should not defend themselves against Hamas. If Hamas had any sense at all, they would at least stop until the regime change in the US. I'm not sure whatObama can do, but we are all sure that, in the short term, Israel will not stop until Hamas does.

GLeigh   January 13th, 2009 1:41 pm ET

Leadership is vital. Gaza needs one that will build factories, not missiles, and talk to the world. Get help for Gaza's regular people. Build up their economy.

Joan   January 13th, 2009 1:43 pm ET

Israel looks bad right now but so do Hamas. They look bad as well as irresponsible. The world will not choose one 'bad' over anothe 'bad', so you are wasting your time trying tto make Israael look bad.

FATINA BARCLAY   January 13th, 2009 1:43 pm ET

aedi   January 13th, 2009 1:44 pm ET

this is all about "nearing its objectives" in the Cast Lead "operation". Livni & Co needs more people to keep real-estate growing, economic crisis is coming, and they know it.
force the right of "return" to others not willing to go to Israel and minimize the economic meltdown

Solomon   January 13th, 2009 1:56 pm ET

Israel killed and wounded thousands but it is already defeated who watched last night attack on the outskirt of Gaza and it was live on TV Know that Israel is acting like a defeated army. all Israel is doing is attacking civilian every place Israel was confronted by the resistance they retreated.Hamas said today that Israeli army loses are twice as the resistance.

it is funny when all of a sudden Israel army start killing Israelis soldiers by accident and traffic accident start happening to Israeli soldiers.

miriam   January 13th, 2009 1:58 pm ET

No mention of Hamas rockets in this blog. What a surprise!

Those of you who think anti-semitism is re-emerging, you're wrong.
Anti-semitism has always existed, never went away and is here to stay.
If you think that threatening Jews with anti-semitic slurs is going to make any difference, you're wrong.
People who have lived their whole lives suffering from, or in the shadow of, anti-semitism, will not be moved by your comments.

GLeigh   January 13th, 2009 2:00 pm ET

Solomon – Good morning. Really people are people. Is there anyway, besides destroying Israel and maybe my country, the United States, for everyone to have lasting peace? Have we gone beyond people ever wanting that? You seem to understand the "other" side.

Joan   January 13th, 2009 2:03 pm ET

All I see and hear about is the devastation in Gaza and the horrible human loss and humanitarian crisis there. What news are you watching?

miriam   January 13th, 2009 2:04 pm ET

"Hamas said today"

Would that be Hamas Syria, Hamas leaders underneath Shifa hospital or the surviving fighters hiding in homes, schools, mosques and hospitals?

None of them can communicate with another, let alone agree on anything.

GLeigh   January 13th, 2009 2:06 pm ET

miriam – Of course we understand, some of us. I have Jewish friends. But in my country, tolerence is taught so we listen to everyone and try to just all live together. We do it badly probably sometimes. I have Muslim friends too. Neither side is perfect. Finding peace for everyone is what I want. Of course, some don't. The squeeky wheel gets the most grease – it's like that. Make enough trouble and someone will think you are strong and in the right.

Joan   January 13th, 2009 2:07 pm ET

There will be no 'winner' in this conflict.

Solomon   January 13th, 2009 2:09 pm ET

Gleigh. Hello.

I understand both sides because I watched both sides .sadly you and almost all Americans watch one side of the story.

the problem which you are trying to Ignore is Israeli occupation of Palestine( West bank and Gaza) that is the problem.

I will be back latter.

Solomon   January 13th, 2009 2:11 pm ET

have you been dreaming Last night?

GLeigh   January 13th, 2009 2:13 pm ET

I find it hard to find things about this on the news. A blip if I keep channel surfing and wait enough. Maybe that's part of the problem. World intervention needs to happen but no one is paying enough attention. These two entities don't seem capable of moving forward. Perhaps the hurts go too deep.

wakeupcall   January 13th, 2009 2:15 pm ET

So many bigoted Americans and the media are threatening the security of America and Western civilization by not condemning Hamas. Hamas, Taliban, Hezbollah, Al Qaeda and Iran are extreme fundamental Islamists wanting to impose their beliefs on infidels and turn countries into fundamentalist Islamic theocracies using the conquest of Israel as a stepping stone. Israel is not fighting the Palestinians just like the USA and its allies are not fighting the Iraqi’s or the people of Afghanistan. These Islamic groups use women and children as suicide bombers to blow up fellow Arabs in Iraq and Afghanistan. In Gaza they calculated to sacrifice fellow Palestinians for the cause by attacking Israel with rockets knowing Israel will have to respond then use women and children as human shields. A Hamas leader used his son as a suicide bomber. The world is being manipulated and duped to support Hamas. This is part of their campaign to turn world opinion against Israel and America. The media and bigots are fools playing into the hands of our enemies.

miriam   January 13th, 2009 2:18 pm ET

Israel is not occupying Palestine.

Israel won territory from Egypt and Jordan in 1967 in a war the Arabs initiated. They had never been part of a Palestinian state.

The Arabs attacked Israel to destroy her when she wasn't in the West Bank or Gaza.

The Arabs refused to establish a potential Palestinian state in 1947, prefering to destroy the Jewish state.

Joan   January 13th, 2009 2:19 pm ET

There is news every day about this. Lots of it, everywhere, like this article. But nothing is changing so what can be reported except more casualties, and more calls for ceasfire. I don't know what TV you are watching. Believe me the world is aware.

GLeigh   January 13th, 2009 2:25 pm ET

In America, we are having an economic crisis, had the Golden Globe Awards, and are getting a new President. I'm glad the world is aware. We tend to live in our space. I did see about 25 seconds this morning on CNN. Nothing on the local channels. Maybe I missed it.

Beny   January 13th, 2009 2:28 pm ET

First you called the Israeli "occpation" as us being here at all. Like the Palestinians, you can't stand the idea of being next to Jews.

Now you define the "occupation" as our military presence in the West Bank and Gaza.

Well let me tell you something: Palestinian terrorism started LONG before we went anywhere NEAR Gaza or the West Bank. The Arab terrorism went on while Gaza was still Egyptian and the West Bank was still Jordanian.

In fact, the ONLY reason you have IDF patrols through the West Bank and Israeli control over part of the Gaza border (let's not forget Egypt, that kept Rafih crossing closed to civilians that could have escaped from our war on Hamas),
the ONLY reason is the countless suicide bombers trying to pass through the checkpoints, and the approx. 9000 (since 2001) rockets we were bombarded with.

You say the terrorists fight the "occupation"? Pretty hard, considering how under your definition this "occupation" is a direct action to STOP terrorism. Two sided sharp inequality is impossible.

Give another definition of "occupation", so I will counteract that.

GLeigh   January 13th, 2009 2:32 pm ET

Joan – It sounds to me like we are two reasonable people trying to find a peaceful solution and keeping the guys from arguing and fighting. I think I'll go and let them resume their bickering. Have a good day.

Joan   January 13th, 2009 2:34 pm ET

ON TV, CNN just reported:

over 900 killed in Gaza, i/3 of those are children
Over 4000 injured, 1/3 children
Israel moving closer to the centre of Gaza
Hamas still sending rockets, 14 so far today.

How is that biased toward Israel?? How does that not show what is happening. ? What are you people listening to? The situation is clear. Gazans are suffering. I didn't even hear anything about Israeli casualties but I am sure there are some. They did say that no Israelis had been kiled by the HAmas rockets, but we all know that Israeli soldiers are being killed in Gaza. I'm sure they will tell us when they have numbers

GLeigh   January 13th, 2009 2:35 pm ET

Unfortunately, the future children will carry it on. More bloodshed. We can't stop that – but hopefully someone will. I hope the UN steps in, China, Japan, someone. See ya!

Beny   January 13th, 2009 2:35 pm ET

You'll find lots of information you won't get from CNN, such as reporting the rockets that hit Israeli schools.

GLeigh   January 13th, 2009 2:39 pm ET

Joan – I did catch the numbers in the 25 seconds I heard CNN earlier. That doesn't help peace. I want who is doing what to end it. I feel sorry for the people of Gaza and the young adults fighting in the Iraeli army being killed and the Hamas soldiers being killed. What is being done to make everyone live in peace? I use the word "make" because some are incapable of pursuing peace on their own. As a citizen of the world, that's what I want. I hear the same 25 seconds a few times. Numbers. Solutions and possible solutions should be the discussion perhaps.

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 2:44 pm ET

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 2:45 pm ET

GLeigh   January 13th, 2009 2:46 pm ET

Of course you won't. And until then, rocket them. That's the answer. Well it is time to let the guys rant and rave. That does solve everything. Have a good Tuesday. I'm making Oatmeal Cookies and vacuuming. Maybe lunch with a friend if her daughter feels better. Peace.

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 2:47 pm ET

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 2:49 pm ET

GLeigh   January 13th, 2009 2:50 pm ET

Dear Mohammed – I sleep very well. Thanks for your concern. Unlike the people of Gaza who have to worry about being destroyed because Hamas missiles are hidden in their populated areas. Men use to face off on the battlefield, mostly to protect the women and children. Or they accepted their neighbors, lived peacefully together, and grew up.

Joan   January 13th, 2009 2:51 pm ET

Yes, I want peace too, and I would rather hear about peace initiatives. I was just responding to the people who are claiming that they don't see anything on the news, or that the Americans only hear the Israeli side.

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 2:52 pm ET

I received news from a friend in Gazz; he told me that 5 alkassam fighters are taking turns on an israeli prisoner. (they are widening his dirty ass).

GLeigh   January 13th, 2009 2:52 pm ET

Growing up is tough stuff. Ask my two grown, and one almost, children. Sometimes we don't get our own ways.

GLeigh   January 13th, 2009 2:56 pm ET

mohammed – you are really a nasty person. I hope the Palestinians are proud of you and what you are accomplishing this day. We die once. Our souls survive. But, we have to own up to what we do.

Tony Larue   January 13th, 2009 2:59 pm ET

I felt compelled to submit this. Since I could not copy and paste this article, I had to type it word for word from the US TODAY page hope they are no spelling errors and if so they are mine and not the original writer's spelling errors. Thank You

INot all of us get the USA TODAY so I hope I am doing the right thing here by posting this letter for all my fellow bloggers to see.

Taken from USA TODAY January 12, 2009 edition (Letters)

"Israel must change tactics"

Israel's so-called justification for it's latest bombing and invasion of the Gaza Strip is that israel has a right to defend itself against rockets attacks from across the border.

But there is no comparison between the wild scatter shots from Gaza and Israel's devasating bombing campaign on this densely populated area.

True, the Hamas rocketeers are madmen. Out of blind rage, they pelt the Israeli Goliath with stones, knowning that Goliath will in turn clobber them and everyone around them with boulders.

Nevertheless, the ultimate resposibility for this decades-old blood feud lies with Israel, and only Israel has the power to turn it around.

The Hamas madmen have been driven mad by generations of living with Goliath's boot on their neck. Say what you like about Israel's right to exist. The fact remains that if drive people out of their ancestral land, pen them up in refugee camps, impoverish them and continue to build "settlements" on land that mainly recognize as belongng to the Palestinians, they will hate you and fight back.,

Richard Hoff

GLeigh   January 13th, 2009 3:02 pm ET

mohammed – You are the prime example of why continued hate against groups is wrong. Nice people in a group suffer and bad people in another group win. It should be about good and bad and individuals. Someday some fanatic may kill me. I'm ready to meet my maker. I've been close more than one time. The tunnel does exist by the way. Also know, that women in tthis country do get to drive and are a power unto themselves. We're pretty self reliant.

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 3:02 pm ET

We were wrong to discuss with you. You can discuss with europeans who sympathize with you. Concerning us , we have only god, and on Him we count. Ethics say that we waste time when we discuss with criminals. do you see what you are doing to children .Shame on you.

Do you see what you are doing to an Israeli soldier. People are people. Young, old, middle (I'm middle I like to think) and regardless of ethnic background. Your God wants you to torture other people?? What is this God's name? You represent him?

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 3:07 pm ET

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 3:10 pm ET

I used to discuss with people like by using logic, history, politics, etc..This is useless. Communication assumes that the sender and the receiver belong to the same species. We are humans, but till now i dont know what you are.

Joan   January 13th, 2009 3:11 pm ET

Your story about the Israeli soldier is disgusting.

You are now saying that you will ' pursue the Jews in all corners of the earth'. Well, so, it's not the occupation after all. It's all Jews. Well, I feel sorry for you that you are so full of hate and are willing to destry so much for nothing.

I am sure you are sitting somewhare safe.

Yesterday, you told me not to talk to you but now you are addressing me.

Whether what you said is true or not, you only want to talk to me when you can say something about your side. If I ask you a logical question you hide behind "go away', 'go to sleep', 'don't speak to me', and 'it's the occupation'

That says so much!

GLeigh   January 13th, 2009 3:13 pm ET

mohammed – It has been pleasant hearing from a Palestinian. I came here to hear from them and know their purposes. I hope Solomon and the Professor are proud at this moment. I promise you another thing, I'm not helpless or weak. Just a friendly warning. Take it as you will. I had two muggers attack me once when I was a young person. One was hurt and the other ran off, Bugged me no end. I know where I will go. Personally. I was there and wanted to stay. You better figure out where you are going to wind up.

Debra   January 13th, 2009 3:15 pm ET

God is good! He doesn't want us to torture others. We as humans want to torture others and if we let the devil in our hearts and minds that will happen. We as humans have a choice to listen or not to what God is telling us.

GLeigh   January 13th, 2009 3:15 pm ET

This is why the outside world, un-biased world peacekeepers need to step in. There are nasty, hateful people wanting to exterminate people.

We consider ourselves to be comrades in arms to the Palestinian Arabs in their struggle for the liberation of Palestine. There is not a single citizen in South Africa who is not ready to stand by his Palestinian brothers in their legitimate fight against the Zionist racists.” — Nelson Mandela

should much rather see reasonable agreement with the Arabs on the basis of living together in peace than the creation of a Jewish state. Apart from practical consideration, my awareness of the essential nature of Judaism resists the idea of a Jewish state with borders, an army, and a measure of temporal power no matter how modest. I am afraid of the inner damage Judaism will sustain — especially from the development of a narrow nationalism within our own ranks, against which we have already had to fight strongly, even without a Jewish state.” — Albert Einstein, 1932.

My sympathies are all with the Jews…But my sympathy does not blind me to the requirements of justice. The cry for the national home for the Jews does not make much appeal to me…Palestine belongs to the Arabs in the same sense that England belongs to the English or France to the French. It is wrong and inhuman to impose the Jews on the Arabs. What is going on in Palestine today cannot be justified by any moral code of conduct. The mandates have no sanction but that of the last war. Surely it would be a crime against humanity to reduce the proud Arabs so that Palestine can be restored to the Jews partly or wholly as their national home.” — Gandhi, 1938

Peter   January 13th, 2009 3:20 pm ET

Where is the HAMAS Leadership. These cowards and the rest of them are in hiding. Just like allway's in history. When the going get's tough then the tough go into hiding. Let's go Palestinians, dont listen to the BS your leaders are trying to ram down your throat, stand up and fight against terrorism and eliminate your own Leadership. The world will be a better place.

I just watched two Israeli soldiers killed by sniper fire. a group of five soldiers were outside a house when the first one fell down the others tried to pull him away then the other was hit the three remaining ones dive for cover.

that is what Israel is facing in Gaza.. targeting civilians shows that Israel is on its way to another big defeat..

Beny   January 13th, 2009 3:34 pm ET

I have stopped wanting peace. I want quiet. I want Gazan and Sderot kids to look up and see no Kassams- the former pre-launch, the latter after. Let them hate me. Just don't let them shoot me.

I want to ride a bus and feel safe. Not twich at every Arab that looks suspicious and puts a hand in his coat. Every country in the world gets that basic condition, but Israel has neighbors that won't allow it.

Show me a way to peace that would bring me quiet, and I would gladly follow it like Israel has for the past 60 years. Israel is willing to give up, and has given up already, a lot more than anyone else for this quiet. What Israel wants, and justifiably so, is a guarantee that giving up all you want us to give up will indeed bring us quiet. Simple, eh?

Until then, until you can give us such a guarantee, let us bring quiet in the only way Hamas lets us. I promise it will all end soon. I'm hoping for a final assault on Philadelphi strip (to sieze it) and then we squeeze a cease-fire on our terms from Hamas.

Oh and Akiva? Bring Jordan to international law for massacring 25,000 Palestinians in 1979, or Syria for a similar thing the did in 1983. Or how about the Muslim criminals in Darfur?!

Do that, and then I will go to "Den Haag" head held up high and beat off your false and propagandic demonization of Israel. I'm waiting. Israel has nothing to fear of "Den Haag". But we want the REAL criminals tried as well.

As wa speak now a group of our fighters are besieging an israeli group of soldiers in a house in Bit Lahya.

Yeah they're wiring the house to explode LIKE THEY DID BEFORE, collapsing not only on the Givati platoon resting below, but also on the 12 families living in that house.

I hope for the Palestinians' sake that those charges won't explode. And Hamas won't kill these innocent children to get at IDF.

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 3:48 pm ET

You have planes, Apachees, etc.. Do you really need to use phosphoric gaz? YOUR COUNTRY REALLY NEEDS FREUD TO RETURN BACK TO LIFE TO EXPLAIN THIS MENTAL STATE.

GLeigh   January 13th, 2009 3:50 pm ET

Professor – A person can say anything. If I said the World Bank was controlled by martians, would you believe it? No one is right or wrong here, Israel or Gaza. It is the fanatics. Don't trust things they might say or do.

Beny   January 13th, 2009 3:50 pm ET

"but don’t speculate so much"

Not speculating. A Givati soldier wounded in Gaza tells (and there are videos by the defusing team) of how his platoon went to sleep in a house (not bothering the residents above), and one of them woke up in the middle of the night to find the whole house wired to explode, to kill not only the platoon, but also the families living above.

That's how a Givati soldier SAVED a lot of Palestinians, where the Hamas tries to kill them, along with his teammates. But of course none of the biased pro-Arab media don't bother to report this.

An IDF video also shows how the school was wired to explode. A tank shell hitting the roof (where the terrorists were) could not have done so much damage to the lower levels (where the innocents were) without inside help.

Solomon   January 13th, 2009 3:51 pm ET

"and the soldiers trying to stop the violence."

that is the must stupid comment I have read so far.

GLeigh   January 13th, 2009 3:51 pm ET

It's been a "stimulating" debate. I really had to hear the evil to believe it. Still, I have to go do my baking and pick up the boys later. Have a good day.

That how Israel been acting all along its history.... the time will come Zionist Israelis will cry for help and there will be no one to help the....

1) Freud? The JEW?! you want a Jew to come back? Wow. Only recently you were talking of our destruction (2024, was it?).

2) Yes we do need Freud. Perhaps Freud can explain the mentality of a country that was constantly bombarded and yet took 8 years to respond.

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 3:55 pm ET

The peace of Abbas, who sits in a limousine and drinks red wine with Levni, while people starve.

GLeigh   January 13th, 2009 3:55 pm ET

Solomon – I think once, days ago you called me stupid before. Yesterday you said happy birthday. You can't have it both ways. Israel wants to stop the rockets, live in peace, and not be wiped off the map. That's your goal. It's the goal of the Palestinians. You told me that. They are trying to survive. Don't call me stupid.

Solomon   January 13th, 2009 3:56 pm ET

. are you drunk?
Israeli saving Palestinians while Hamas tried to kill them?

Beny   January 13th, 2009 3:58 pm ET

Goodbye GLeigh!

Debra, still here? Linda? Debs? Chernor? I really need someone a bit more open minded to talk to.

Anyway, I'll probably retreat now and return to my plans of world domination, nasty little Jew that I am

GLeigh   January 13th, 2009 3:58 pm ET

No Mohammed – your peace. You've certainly described it, in detail, to us.

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 3:59 pm ET

I just saw the sniping scene. awesome.

Solomon   January 13th, 2009 3:59 pm ET

why kill civilian prisoners after being captured?

Professor   January 13th, 2009 4:00 pm ET

Yeah thats the kind of peace Israel wants.... they want to have an armed population under siege next door so they can invade and kill anytime they want....

Well that will not happen Oh Israel as long as there one decent human being left alive on this earth.

benyemen   January 13th, 2009 4:00 pm ET

Beny   January 13th, 2009 4:01 pm ET

Yes Solomon. Hamas are sending 14-year-olds to explode in buses, and drag little kids around as human shields, why are you so surprised that they wired a house to explode on a Givati platoon?

The soldier identified a threat to his team and removed it. And if civilian lives were saved, so much the better.

Solomon   January 13th, 2009 4:01 pm ET

Beny the Defeated.
as always like your defeated army when confronted you ran like a dirty rat.

Peter   January 13th, 2009 4:01 pm ET

Now, this is the most dummest blog entrie i will ever make. But i hope that the IDF can round all you terrorist up and put you in a camp. I will then be more than happy to drop a bomb on you. This should make all of you terrorist very happy, then you will go to Allah and get many many wifes. And only Allah knows whar else to give you. So, in the meantime go kill yourself or wait for me. I will bring you peace.

aedi   January 13th, 2009 4:02 pm ET

beny, in fact what you want me to see is that all childrens killed are Hamas' fault. but I don't live inside israel, nor prayer of a sinagogue. i won't eat your propaganda. you can come and tell me what you want. IDF is killing innocents every day. you can see it everywhere in the global news around the world.

B-U-T this is the zionist goverment' primary goal, be alone against the world, and be victimized and freshie "hotovened". go to and check how Israel "jew" population grows in war periods.

shadi   January 13th, 2009 4:04 pm ET

the terrorist ,the terrorist ,the terorist.....this is how israel makes terrorists,by taking away the lives of civilians and to leave the ones who are lucky around to suffer from the losses with nothing left. Now What! You expect the palestinians to live happy ever after.what human will EVER recover from this terror.there is no way that anyone who goes through this type of aggresion will ever live a normal life.NOW REALLY WHO IS THE TERRORIST?AngerR Frustration, Hopelessness will leave the PALESTINIAN PEOPLE fighting for ever. (LONG LIVE PALESTINE)

Beny   January 13th, 2009 4:05 pm ET

Son of Yemen,

Please describe the "occupation" you talk of.

You already described your "peace" with Israel in Israel not being here at all. I would rather have a different setting. How about "peace" being you stopping the rockets at Israeli schools?

GLeigh   January 13th, 2009 4:05 pm ET

As a mom this is how it ends up – I have 2 sons, one athletic and one not. The second one might go in the military, to belong to a group and find his place in the world because he's really the fourth child with sisters. He doesn't care about politics or any of that stuff, just making a living, belonging, and serving his country. Someday some army person from another side might catch and torture him. The same thing might happen to a person on the side he's never met who is just like him. My son likes everyone and loves animals. These two boys probably would have been best friends in another place and time. And then some man and women who just feel tired and want to raise their kids will find themselves hiding in their basement while the armies fight it out, hoping their two sons will be safe. One athletic and popular, and the other not.

GLeigh   January 13th, 2009 4:05 pm ET

Congrats on all this pain.

Joan   January 13th, 2009 4:06 pm ET

if you think war only benefit Israel, then why are you engaging? why not stop the Hamas rockets and stop the war.

GLeigh   January 13th, 2009 4:08 pm ET

mohammed – I can tell you are having fun. Enjoy the bloodshed. See ya.

Solomon   January 13th, 2009 4:08 pm ET

I hope the same to you and your children and family if you have any.

Peter   January 13th, 2009 4:09 pm ET

Sorry Professor. No, i am not Israelie, sorry to disappoint you.

Beny   January 13th, 2009 4:10 pm ET

If not for the countless proof of Hamas using kids as human shields, then this is why the deaths are Hamas's fault:

Israel has warned Hamas countless times that a painful attack would happen if Hamas keeps on shooting. By disregarding this warning, Hamas brought the attack on Gaza.

Israel sends warnings to civilians (air-dropped brochures and phone calls) before an airstrike, to keep them away from the designated targets. It saved countless lives in Rafiah bombings, but usually Hamas keeps the civilians in place, sometimes by force.

Professor   January 13th, 2009 4:10 pm ET

If your son serve in army that defends the borders of his country then he will not be captured by a group or anyone else..... but if he serve in an army that invades another country borders then he is a fair game no matter how many animals he loves.

Solomon   January 13th, 2009 4:11 pm ET

I grew up going to Church and I don’t do what God expects of me now. I will pay for that one day. Something has been on my mind for years now. Why, did God put his only son, Jesus, on earth to walk on the soil over there in the Middle East? Why give all the Middle East countries the richness of all that oil? Did God give his people his son to see if Jesus could make a difference, for the good over there? Hasn’t all this turmoil over there been going on for ages? Didn’t the people over in your world crucifi Jesus? Maybe because of that fact, is why your people suffer and have for a long time and maybe always will. This is just my opinion. What I think and just a little bit of what I might have picked up along the way with my going to church. Don’t laugh at me, ok?

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 4:13 pm ET

the so called “Israel” is not a state for the following reasons:
1- It has violated a territory of other people (I can discuss this by bringing documented and verifiable historical and legal documents).
2- Even in terms of geopolitics, it has no well-defined borders: Its borders with Egypt and Jordan are regulated by the terms of two peace treaties.
Its border with Syria consists of the Golan, over which negociations are underway.
Its border with Lebanon are monitored by the addition to this, it occupies SHabaa farms (lebanese land).
of course its border with the west bank is expanding everyday.
Its border with gazza have no legal status yet.
3- It is the only “organization” (in order not to say a state) that does not want to sign the nuclear proliferation treaty.
4_the only criminal organization not to apply any Crucial UN resolution.
5_ the only organization that takes 15 million dollar fro the american tax payer daily without any motive.
6- the only criminal org. to violate human rights, kill infants, journalists, doctors, Unrwa schools without any condemnation. 7- the only ******** to use arms of mass destruction and internationally banned arms with any internationl reaction.
8-the only one to detain more than 11000 prisoner.
9- the only “state” to be created according to a promise (the one of belfour).
10- the only “state” where people need to travel to see the graves of their grandfathers.
11-the only “state” where people have too many different mother tongue that they need to study their national language.
etc, etc, etc………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Now , really, do you think we should call it ********or the bastard organization

Peter   January 13th, 2009 4:14 pm ET

Well, if that is what it takes to get everlasting peace, it is worth it. After all, i am just talking about terrorist. Amongst all the Millions of Palestinians your number can be no more then 1/2 million. That is a small price to pay. People unfortuently die every day. So, stop this madness. Two wrongs dont make a right.

GLeigh, as a mom, would you ever dream of sending ANY one of your sons to kill himself? For whatever cause?
I personally think Gazan mothers are forced at gunpoint to encourage and send their children to kill themselves. I can't imagine anyone doing it of free will. Just another crime amongst many by the terrorists.

Professor   January 13th, 2009 4:16 pm ET

aedi   January 13th, 2009 4:18 pm ET

answer yourself, they have no interest in ending the rockets. man, without those rockets how could they occupy more land and create hate against jews around? it's Israel Gov core business. What would Israel do without war? they would lose USD tax money for example.

Akiva   January 13th, 2009 4:18 pm ET

this speaker is right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
before you call iran a enemy...
speak with them!!!!!!!!

GLeigh   January 13th, 2009 4:18 pm ET

Professors – It doesn't matter. These young people on both sides are hurt and captured. None of it matters except the hate. Mohammed has described it. Don't you get that? Boys are the same world over. It's what they grow up with and are taught. This is useless – just words. You don't care. Let everyone die except a few on your side. That means you've won, even if a lot suffer. Moms hate the pain and suffering though. Maybe some dads too. Not a lot that I can see. No one really wants peace. Peace would be logical and easy to achieve. I feel sorry for the people of Gaza, civilians, and the young soldiers caught up in it. I'm done wasting my time. It takes reasonable people who want peace to achieve it.

Akiva   January 13th, 2009 4:20 pm ET

Send your army to Israel and let them shut up in gaza
disarm israel!

Keep em quiet!

right now there are some idiots in the US who wants us to believe that anyone who is a threat to Israel is a threat to US.

What they do not realize that Israel is a threat to every country around it.... and none of those countries has a problem with the US except for it unconditional support to this satanic cancer.

Professor   January 13th, 2009 4:23 pm ET

Right.... go ahead and go to your kitchen.... bye

Beny   January 13th, 2009 4:24 pm ET

I, as an atheist, would rather adress these problems to more recent events than the crucifiction (by Romans, not from "our" world) of a really kind and generous and smart (Jewish) revolutionary guy with some very nice ideas (sorry, don't mean to insult, this is how I percieve Jesus).

But who knows, maybe these wars ARE divine will punishing us. God knows (no pun intended) for what.

I have been asking my question for at least as long as you have been avoiding it. If like the word "occupation" so much, how about telling us what you mean by it?

I am asking because I have a response for every definition of "occupation" you might apply. I just need to know what to use.

Professor, I will ask you too: Please describe the "occupation".

Beny   January 13th, 2009 4:25 pm ET

Gotta go. Someone else wants the computer

Solomon   January 13th, 2009 4:26 pm ET

The Israeli military are accused of:

• Using powerful shells in civilian areas which the army knew would cause large numbers of innocent casualties;

• Using banned weapons such as phosphorus bombs;

• Holding Palestinian families as human shields;

• Attacking medical facilities, including the killing of 12 ambulance men in marked vehicles;

• Killing large numbers of police who had no military role

aedi   January 13th, 2009 4:28 pm ET

oh beny you are earing a salary from this. you spew the very same "concepts" thrown by IDF propaganda.

I'm out

GLeigh   January 13th, 2009 4:29 pm ET

Professor – you're just like Mohammed – blood thirsty. Only wanting to kill the people of Israel, take their land, and move on to the next country or religion. Israel wants to live on their land, raise their children, and not have over 11,000, I forget the exact number, of missiles shot at them for eight years. They don't want concrete arches over their elementary schools so if a Hamas missile hits, the kids might survive. As a mom who has been to neither Israel or Gaza, I can understand these emotions. You only want death. I can't help but hope you achieve it. Most do, at some point in their lives. We are on Planet Earth a short time. It's a tough place. Wars make it tougher.

Professor   January 13th, 2009 4:29 pm ET

I will tell you if you need someone to describe what occupation is then you do not need to be here.... go to Germany.

Professor   January 13th, 2009 4:31 pm ET

I do not like to kill anyone...

I never served in an army and I will never serve in an army except to defend the borders of my country from any external attack. So, if I live in a country who got invaded and occupied.... then anyone I kill from the occupation has no one to blame but themselves....

GLeigh   January 13th, 2009 4:34 pm ET

Professor – God (whatever name you call him) give you peace and a fulfilling life someday. I hope your children grow up not seeing a bomb in person. Your words are poison. Sad stuff. I hope people discern between poison and fulfillment, but many just react to anything on the world wide web. Videos. Someday, I hope people reach out to achieve more before they kill each others' grown children.

Professor   January 13th, 2009 4:34 pm ET

The Zionist Jews of Israel can go to hell and leave us alone to live in Peace and you will see that we will, Jews, Christians and Muslims....

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 4:35 pm ET

you mean 11000 prisoner.

Professor   January 13th, 2009 4:37 pm ET

my words are poison?

What do you call the poison you have spreading all over this blog then?

Give Palestinian equal treatment as you would yourself then I would treat you with your respect.... but expect me to believe that you have a drop of humanity in you when you want to say that Palestinians are getting what they deserve for voting Hamas in.

Solomon   January 13th, 2009 4:37 pm ET

according to Haaritz.

Hamas militants have been dressing up as Israel Defense Forces soldiers in uniform in an attempt to carry out suicide bombings against Israeli troops in the Gaza Strip, IDF Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi said Tuesday.

Ashkenazi tolf the Knesset Defense and Foreign Affairs Committee in Tel Aviv that the militants have tried to penetrate IDF battle lines and detonate their explosives next to Israeli troops

I thought the Zionists are saying that Hamas is hiding behind civilians?

Gaza clinic destroyed by Israeli jets
12 January 2009

A primary healthcare clinic in Gaza City funded by Christian Aid has been destroyed by Israeli missile fire.

The clinic, which provided free care to Gazans, was run by the Near East Council of Churches (NECC), a Christian Aid partner organisation.

The owners of the two-storey building received a telephone warning to evacuate the building within 15 minutes on Saturday evening.

The building was evacuated quickly, just before a warning shot was fired.

That was followed by a direct hit from missiles fired by an Israeli air-force jet.

This completely destroyed the building and its contents, including hundreds of thousands of pounds of medical equipment.

There were no injuries in the attack. Nor was any reason for the attack given

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 4:50 pm ET

When I see israelis defending a false and immoral case this, I feel a heartache especially when I see that neither Abbas, nor Amr Moussa, who have the legal right to sue Israeli leaders for committing a crime against humanity. The first, for being the president for a difacto state (according to the international law) and the second for being the president ofn the arab leaguein which palestine is amember. This is really shameful because if they do all arabs will support them. With the use of white phosphoric bombs and the documentation of the affected subjects, I think the case will be easily won.

GLeigh   January 13th, 2009 4:54 pm ET

Nona – good point. I don't care to hear how any soldier's backside is made wider though I thought soldiers were soldiers were soldiers and that was the male bonding of it regardless of whose side they happened to be born into. Nasty bunch. I don't hear anything about how to achieve peaceful relations. It's sad to hear and hard to give up reasoning, but the desire for bloodshed and blowing things up must be strong. Talk to you later. Women have more sense.

OCCUPATION IS OCCUPATION. If you devote some of your time to study instead of offering the beautiful image of an israeli lady( baking, and raising her kids ), you ll know that you are using a logical fallacy called "appeal to pathos". This does not work with us.

The hasbara brigade strikes again! You always hear about Israeli attempts at media manipulation. Everyone knows it's going on but usually the process happens through cyber insurgents like those involved with Giyus (and its media monitoring software, Megaphone). Now, we know that the Israeli foreign ministry itself is orchestrating propaganda efforts designed to flood news websites with pro-Israel arguments and information.

A reader of my blog has received the following email which documents both the efforts and the agency that originated them. The solicitation to become a pro-Israel "media volunteer" also includes a list of media links which the ministry would like addressed by pro-Israel comments:

Dear friends,

We hold the [sic] military supremacy, yet fail the battle over the international media. We need to buy time for the IDF to succeed, and the least we can do is spare some (additional) minutes on the net. The ministry of foreign affairs is putting great efforts in balancing the media, but we all know it's a battle of numbers. The more we post, blog, talkback, vote – the more likely we gain positive sentiment.

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 5:29 pm ET

-The war has damaged the image of israel in the world.
-Israel is in a real crisis; if it moves deep in gazza, it will suffer from heavy casualties; if it moves back ,it will give the impression it lost the war.
-This war has weakened the moderate regimes that support Israel and has ignited the anger of their population, so much so that it would be very difficult for these regimes to keep a normal relation with israel.
-We think Israel has to draw back from GAZZA and keep hamas wounded but not dead and at the same time work for a long truce and wait for what the future will bring.

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 5:39 pm ET

the wars israel won before were due to its air force. Now that its planes have run short of a strategic bank of potential targets, all that remains is land incursion. This latter will put idf in an unprecedented situation as ghazza is the most densely populated city in the world. As the number of hamas fighters has not decreased and since hamas fighters own and know the land, it would be very hard for the colonizer to manage an accurate street war. The amounts of explosives, sidebombs, and the anti-tanks missiles (from iran) will surely make the difference. hamas leaders have simulating this scenario for months. They know what they have to do.

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 5:42 pm ET

thanks for the fierce attacks
hope to see you later.
We will wait till they gather again, then we will attack

go and see a shrink ; you need valuum. There will come a time when I'll grant you eternal peace.

Professor   January 13th, 2009 6:03 pm ET

Thank you all...

Long Live Palestine.... Down with the occupation.... Death to the occupiers.

Solomon   January 13th, 2009 6:03 pm ET

M Ariely.

the terrorist state of Israel is the one that should be stopped.

they are the state that kill children.
the state that kill women
the state that target Hospitals.
the state that target schools.
the state that target Mosques.
the state that allow thieves to steal.
the state that target red cross.
the state that target Christian charities.

Professor   January 13th, 2009 6:08 pm ET

M Airy,

you still here?

GLeigh   January 13th, 2009 6:12 pm ET

Ariely – You are here during the terrorists hour. A nasy bunch if you ask me. Try later when rational people are discussing peaceful options. This is not the goal right now in this discussion area. Pretty much everyone knows the Hamas charter or something of it. Peace.

Moss   January 13th, 2009 6:13 pm ET

Waste of time. CNN lets the arabs write anything they like. Biased reporting has been a signature of CNN throughout this war. Must be arab shareholders in CNN. I would find another more objective blog if I you. This blog has been taken over by drug-crazed delusional arabs.

Professor   January 13th, 2009 6:15 pm ET

you are just lurking around waiting to find someone to discuss the Hamas charter while Israeli is killing women and children?.... shame on your humanity.

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 6:15 pm ET

Ithink hamas should excecute the jew shaleet.I think it s high time they did it.

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 6:17 pm ET

Israelis are buying time now.

CS   January 13th, 2009 6:18 pm ET

M Ariely. You are very biased. We can agree that the U.N. is an impotent entity. But why they are so, is where we disagree.

Let's start just after 2006. Gaza was supposed to be declared Palestinian territory. Settlement communities of the Jews were SUPPOSED to bedisbanding. Ever since 2006, Israel has been placing blockades, in an animalistic attempt to prevent Palestinian civilians from getting food, water, and medical supplies. This lead to the death of hundreds of Palestinians. Deaths that could, under livable conditions, have been easily prevented. Deaths due to contaminated drinking water, because the Jews would cut the power supply for 12 hrs at a time, wich in turn, causes the elecltrically powwered water pumps to work.

As of late, we all know there was a cease fire signed by both sides. A cease fire that Israel broke twice. Once, just days after it was initially signed, by invading Gaza to kill 3 men. And a second time this passed November, when Israel launched an incursion into Gaza, thereby, killing 7 more people.

Now I would think that the U.N. would get involved under these types of conditions, but no. They wait until the Muslim people to respond, then start allowing the media to give angles that support Israel. As usual. No wonder so many fools think that Islamic people are so terrible. It's because the U.N. only allows one story to be told. The Jews side.

GLeigh   January 13th, 2009 6:21 pm ET

Actually I left and came back to see if Linda or Nona or Nick were here. I don't "lurk" though I don't expect you to believe that since lurking must seem natural. Not everyone is like you Professor. Have a good one. Hope you are working on that hopeful, needed peace solution. I still say outside, un-biased, not Jewish, Palestinian, or American peacekeepers (long term), seperating Israel and Gaza would work along with a cease fire on both sides. Hopefully, everyone will live in peace that way. I know you're working on peace too. What are your ideas???

GLeigh   January 13th, 2009 6:26 pm ET

A long lasting world peace, peace between Israel and Gaza, is the purpose of this discussion. Isn't it? That is what we all hope for – children to live in safety and a stable world.

Debra   January 13th, 2009 6:27 pm ET

I realize you all get mad at each other cause each one of you want to be right with what you are saying but.....think about it, maybe all of you are right about what you are saying.

CS   January 13th, 2009 6:27 pm ET

Hala and CNN. Can some fair and responsible journalism be practiced by your station PLEASE. It is your duty to tell the audiance, and the world BOTH sides of the story, with equal amounts of coverage. To your credit, I have seen some coverage of Israels breaking of the cease fire. But never to the extent that you make Israel out to be the bullied country who needs the worlds support. i've seen little you tubes of Rick Sanchez debating, and uncovering the truth in the cease fire breaking issue. But you bombard the TV with coverage of how terrible the Palestinians are, and how sneaky they are for having those underground tunnels. Nobody ever stops and says, "well every country receives assistance during's called Allies." No. When western/Israeli countries do it it's called Allies. When Islamic nations do this, it's labeled "Egypt needs to stop supplying Hamas with artillary." We supplied Saddam, and Bin Laden at one point in history. Has everyone forgotten that, or is this another gag order on the press. Like the non showing of Iraqi caskets, and all the words that you're banned from saying on the air?

Paul Kurlansky   January 13th, 2009 6:27 pm ET

Where have you and your less than worthless cronies in the UN been for the last three years while Hamas has rained 6.000 rockets on the innocent men, women and children of Israel???

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 6:28 pm ET

Here is a nice story.
In my childhood in an Arab country, we used to have an old jewish lady as a neighbour. She was left alone by her only son who went to the US. We used to help her a lot , we used to feed her, protect her, assist her when she was ill. Every friday, she used to have couscous with us.Everything was ok then. When her son came back from the states to take her to palestine, she showed us adifferent face.Once, he came to our door, and he started shouting at my mother, telling her that we treated her harshly. When my mother asked him about his anger, he told her that we used to take his mother to cheap and bad doctors. When my father came back and heard the story , he laughed and summarized a surat in the koran which says that christians and jews will never be satisfied , no matter what you offer them. I was a kid then, but I LEARNT THE LESSON.

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 6:31 pm ET

good remark, actually.

Professor   January 13th, 2009 6:33 pm ET

Israel needs to pull back to 1967 borders.... take Jews of the settlements out of the West Bank too.... And respect the rights of the Palestinians for self determination, the right of the refugees to come back to their homes.... That land will accomodate everone... give everyone equal rights, Jews, Christians and Muslims....

Remember South Africa Apartheid? We need to stop the Israeli Apartheid as we ended the South African one.... I do not want to see anyone killed on either side.... I think we need to ask Israel to disarm just as we are asking Hamas to disarm.

Then maybe I would think that you are an honest peace seeker.

Professor   January 13th, 2009 6:35 pm ET

There is no way evil is right.... It just can't be.... and Israel right now is Evil.

samy   January 13th, 2009 6:35 pm ET

1000 killed in 16 days.Isn't this a genocide?

Bill   January 13th, 2009 6:36 pm ET

I am amused but never surprised by the filth and garbage that keeps coming from the Islamic terrorist supporters. They are showing their true colors over and over.

If God was on your side and your cause is so just, why are you losing the battle SO BADLY, even on your own home turf? Have you thought for a moment that the war crimes you are commiting and supporting are abhorrent in God's eyes? Hiding behind women and children to attack other women and children? Hiding in God's house with weapons and ammunition? Hiding in hospitals and firing from crowded neighborhoods? Trying to maximize the number of civilian casualties while trying to fool a gullible world into thinking it is the Israeli's fault? Booby–trapping schools and private homes?

You can fool some people, especially violent Muslims, but even this world sees through this charade. That's why nobody is helping you. God knows the atrocities you are commiting and supporting and what total cowards you are. That's why you are getting you butt kicked. That's why you are viewed as a total failure in the Arab world. That is also why you are probably going to hell. You do not support the life that God gave you. You chose murder, death and evil instead. You will pay for these choices for eternity. I hope you like HOT weather...

GLeigh   January 13th, 2009 6:40 pm ET

Professor – this is why we need outside, unbiased mediators – to make certain that all are treated fairly. Finger pointing is not accomplishing anything. They did this and the others did something else and I'm lilly pure. No, world leaders, unbiased ones, need to step in and make sure that everyone is treated fairly. This should have been done years ago. Neither side is perfect. But, there should be a way for neighbors to co-exist.

GLeigh   January 13th, 2009 6:41 pm ET

I hope that Ban Ki-Moon can accomplish something. Outside people, no Americans, Arabs, Jewish people, just unbiased people keeping the peace.

This is what I believe th solution is. It comes in a few parts, so bare with me please.
1.Give the Palestinian People thier own counrty by giving them a powerplant. Possibly wind/water turbines powered by ocean currents, windmills, something green so that they can have independence from Israels power plants. This would also create jobs, which would keep an economy moving.

2. Give the Palestinian people some help with infrastructure. Paved roads/highways, bridges. This would create more jobs, and allow them to move about more freely.

3. Help the Palestinians with regard to schools, and universities. An educationally rich country will more likely flourish than not.

4. Help the Palestinians build military/defense/ and even local police forces. This will add some order on a civil level, and added respect from other nations who know that they are able to defend themselves. It will also produce more jobs.

With these few things, and I'm sure some other ideas would be helpful too, Palestinians would flourish. They would reject radical thinking, as radicals are always in the minority. If pressed by a radical force, the community outcry will have some power, and the national guard/security forces could oust them. And frankly...groups like Hamas would not disapear, but they sure would have less members.
Especially when face with the prospect of their children growing up in a peaceful Palestine, and being successful, and happy with life.

I say these things because this is precisely what was done for Israel, 60 years ago. It is only fair to give Palestine the same opportunities.

Debra   January 13th, 2009 6:44 pm ET

Why is Hamas and Israel so primitive in there thinking?

samy   January 13th, 2009 6:44 pm ET

Professor   January 13th, 2009 6:46 pm ET

Who are those people?

Israel has a couple of friends and the rest of the United Nations are considered enemies.... The Israeli friends (The US and the British) cannot be an honest broker so do you expect Martians to come and be the honest brokers?

samy   January 13th, 2009 6:46 pm ET

why is hamas primitive?

Professor   January 13th, 2009 6:47 pm ET

Please do not use both in the same sentence...

How can you compare apples and oranges?

Professor   January 13th, 2009 6:48 pm ET

CS good points.... :)

GLeigh   January 13th, 2009 6:48 pm ET

Professor – Please try to stay on tract here.

CS – I think the people of Gaza should have help in achieving and supporting themselves long ago. You are preaching to the choir. I don't know why this wasn't done by the world leaders, lack of initiative maybe. I can understand why Israel wasn't helpful, there are a lot of hard feelings on both sides. Perhaps Ban Ki-Moon should listen to you and others regarding Gaza's needs.

CS   January 13th, 2009 6:51 pm ET

Bill. You obviously think this is Monday night football, what with the being amused, and talking about home turf. Very mature. You are also obviously brainwashed into believing everything that the JEWISH run media tells you. As stated earlier. If Hitler had todays media/TV, he would have won. In fact, since you are babbling about how bad the Muslim people are losing. At least they're fighting the opression. Unfortunately, the European Jews just walked onto the trains, and into the gas chambers without a fight. Until 6million were killed. Only to have to have some other counrties come to the rescue.

Hitler had his followers brainwashed into thinking that his enemies were their enemies. Into thinking that non-Jewish Germans were the master race. He had many followers. You would be one of his finest officers. Congratulations.

GLeigh   January 13th, 2009 6:52 pm ET

Professor – I think people from China, Japan, Russia, Mexico, Spain, France, Iceland, just a mix of people could be fair and un-biased.

Bill   January 13th, 2009 6:53 pm ET

CS -

We gave Gaza to the Palestininans and they just raped the land and turned it into another Islamic terrorist encampment. They dug up the sewer pipes to make Kassams to fire at Israeli civilians.

Now you are suggesting we set them up with another country, complete with infrastructure, military, and police?

Absurd. These Palestinians need to start working for a living instead of being on welfare for 60 years at a cost of Billions to the world. They need to be cut off completely. Maybe they will choose to work and live instead of spending all their resources on weapons and hate.

The Palestininas killed "Land for Peace". They proved that peace with Palestinians is not possible. The best we can do is to keep them isolated to minimize the harm they do to others. There is no way we can stop them from harming themselves unless we put them all in prison. Such savages!

Professor   January 13th, 2009 6:55 pm ET

I am ok thank you.... :)

If Isreal does not pull back to the 1967 borders to begin with and lift the siege on Gaza.... let its people breath.... don't expect the Palestinians to stop doing anything they are doing....

If you corner a cat do you know what the cat will do to you?........... at that point who need to stop and pull back the cat or you?

samy   January 13th, 2009 6:57 pm ET

Zionists have a problem even with jewish historians. I discussed with one from the Hebrew universuty and I think we have the same position about what happenedin palestine.

CS   January 13th, 2009 7:00 pm ET

GLeigh. I think that the reason Israel was given the help THEY needed, was because of the public outcry due to their near demise in Germany at the hands of a lunatic. Unfortunately, I think the same will have to happen to the Muslim people all over the middle east before anybody with some power steps in to intervene. And I don't beleive I'm preaching to the choir, because there are a lot of hate filled, prideful people on these blogs who want nothing more than the destruction of Muslims at the hands of the Israelis. Maybe they need to make up for looking weak in Germany/Lebanon. In any event. It is very sad that world leaders will not step in to do what needs to be done to help these people.

GLeigh   January 13th, 2009 7:01 pm ET

Professor – Please share with me what peace plans you and your friends have been working on. I do think the people of Gaza should be assisted in building schools and some kind of industry. It would be costly to do everything for them, but some basics so they can become self supporting over time. Of course, knowing the history of shooting at Israel for the past eight years, monitors would need to be in place to see that everyone is getting along nicely. The border disputes would have to be mediated. I can't judge who gets what because of whatever. That is for world leaders much wiser than I am. I do have hope in Ban Ki-Moon making a difference.

Bill   January 13th, 2009 7:02 pm ET

The ony ones trying to exterminate the Jews are hate-filled Muslims like you. So you can keep that Naza tripe under your hat along with your swastika.

No one is trying to exterminate the Palestinians, except maybe Hamas and Iran. The Palestinians are just too dumb to realize that the Iranians want to attack the Jews until the last drop of Palestinian blood is shed. They happily place their children near rocket launchers and then put on a real show of tears for the world of they get injured or killed. The world just isn't buying this crap anymore. You might as well tell them to board the trains to the death camps where monsters like you killed millions of Jews in WW2.

samy   January 13th, 2009 7:05 pm ET

You take daily 15 million dollars from the American tax payer. By the way, who has paid the arms shipment that is headind now to israel. Of course, the regular american guy who has problems with paying his mortgage.
So, before talking about who works and who begs money and support ander the victim slogan, shut your dirty mouth.

GLeigh   January 13th, 2009 7:06 pm ET

No offense CS, but many of the Arab countries are very rich. Not all. A few might need some help at first. That needs to be addressed. Gaza needs help. Actually right now, several countries need help. The economy stinks world wide. There are always hate filled people and probably that is never going to change. My concern is the war. How does the world achieve peace. How we safe guard the people of Gaza and Israel. How do they live peacefully and productively? If the world has to step in, which no one is thrilled about getting involved, then the world needs to step in.

Professor   January 13th, 2009 7:06 pm ET

What about the massacres, the killing of Palestinians women and children and innocent civilians for the past 60 years on the hands of the Israeli Occupying Forces?

Were the words too hard for you to understand? I can see from your posts that you are, ah, intellectually challenged. Which word did you not understand.? I guess the 2nd grade was probably the hardest 5 years of your life, huh? Maybe we should do an IQ test on you. What is your shoe size? Since you have two feet, you should double that number. That is you approximate IQ. The estimate may actually be a bit high. I would imagine that it puts you on par with a turtle or a guppy.
Maybe you should crawl back into your shell of evil and slink away.

GLeigh   January 13th, 2009 7:10 pm ET

People in Gaza shoot at Israel – not all the radicals. Rockets. We all know this as a fact. I know some feel justified. If it were possible, I'd like to get rid of every weapon on earth. Un-arming Israel isn't an option. It would suffer the same fate as poor Darfur where hundreds of thousands have been exterminated because some want Israel wiped off the map. We have all heard the words. We all know this is true also. But the two need to be kept apart, totally. They shouldn't even be allowed to glance at each other.

Dave   January 13th, 2009 7:11 pm ET

The rhetoric coming from the Arab world, is, and always has been violent and full of hate. Most Arab nations have institutionalized hatred of Israel and Jews. When the Arab world wants peace, there will be peace. Perhaps Israel should launch a “proportionate” response to Palestinian rockets and fire 6000 blind rockets into Gaza. The world reinforces it’s own Jew-hatred by believing what it wants to believe about Israel, and conveniently avoids looking at the facts as they truly are. Don’t shoot at Israel, and Israel won’t shoot at you.

GLeigh   January 13th, 2009 7:12 pm ET

Ban Ki-Moon is unbiased, what Gaza and Israel need to achieve peace. You do want peace between the two countries, right??

samy   January 13th, 2009 7:12 pm ET

Israelis say hamas fighters hide.Of course , they hide. This is a guerilla strategy (kill and hide to use Mao tse tong phrase). Israel wants to give the impression that they are fighting with a regular army. You are fighting freedom fighters among civilians. You remind of the days France used to colonize algeria. The french used to use the same rhetoric. The present is really similar to the present!!!!!!!!!

CS   January 13th, 2009 7:13 pm ET

And Bill. To your stupid coments about Hamas hiding behind women/children.and blah blah blah. I may not agree with the way Hamas does things. But I will say this; If Israel tries to flex it's muscles on an obviously unmatched oponent, than they, and you, should not cry when they try to succeed by any means necessary. I Israel would stop opressing Palestinians, there would be no cause for fighting, then if Hamas acted up, it would be unanimous that they would have to be removed. The Palestinian people would ALL want them out, and they could be helped in doing so, with combined efforts. But as long as Israel opresses Palestine, there will be a cause for terrorism. Israel just feeds right into it. But I'm thinking they do it on purpose, just because they know they can win.

racasel   January 13th, 2009 7:13 pm ET

you are and excelent example why there will be no peace whereever muslims are. You keep mentioning God. God does not tolerate what Hamas is doing. Thats probably why they are losing the war. Bill   January 13th, 2009 7:13 pm ET

The "occupation" is just an ALIBI – Arabs Living In Biblical Israel.

The occupiers are the Arabs and the Palestinians. I agree its time to get rid of these occupiers so there can be peace in Israel.

Professor   January 13th, 2009 7:16 pm ET

Yes but Ban Ki-Moon does not have the power to enforce anything... here we have a new resolution that Israel is not acting on.... one more to add to the more than 70 UN resolutions against Isreal.... so what'e with another one?

GLeigh   January 13th, 2009 7:17 pm ET

There are strong opinions on both sides, and deep feelings. As a world citizen, I would just like to see my kids grow up without having to worry about endless wars there that might escalate. I think outsiders will have to step in to accomplish it, though I know they hate getting involved. Perhaps, if you keep discussing on here, you will find other options and ways of accomplishing this peace between Gaza and Israel. CS has very good points. People need a decent standard of living. I hope someone is listening out there in cyber land.

Professor   January 13th, 2009 7:18 pm ET

Biblical Israel?

Wasn't your G-d who kicked you out of it?... you are so stupid joke.

Dave   January 13th, 2009 7:19 pm ET

Good insulting there, but little fact. You were taught to hate Jews/Israel. Leave Israel alone, and it will leave you alone; say this "I am willing to live in peace with the Jews. I will respect their right to Israel, and I expect them to respect my right to Palestine. We will not use violence everytime we think we deserve something. We will stop teaching our kids to hate". Not so hard, but you can't say it, because you hate so much.

according to Haaritz.

I thought that Israel and its Zionist supporters are saying that Hamas is hiding behind civilians?

Professor – The Muslim way of teaching hatred, racism, and intolerance to their very young children is what prevents them from having peace in the future. If they truly loved their children, like Jews and Christians do, they wouldn't ruin their future at such an early and impressionable age.

When the Palestinians were given the gift of Gaza, there were no Israelis there to occupy or oppress you. You runined Gaza anyway and turned it into an Islamic terrorist encampment. The Palestinians have proven that it is not about land, it is not about oppression, it is about wanting to kill all the Jews. And they can't even agree among themselves how best to do that!

CS – Your childish rants are amusing. Of course they have no basis in facts. Israel won the land of Gaza from Egypt in a war that the Arabs started, as usual. So it was Israeli land to give away. Once you've lost the land in war – especially one you started – it is not yours anymore, fool! The West Bank was similarly won from Jordan. Now it is all Israeli land. It is not Palestinian land. It never was. There never was a country of Palestine. With the current behavior of the Palestinians, there never will be.

You can thank ignorant "people" like yourself.

And you, a "Christian"? Hahahahahahhahahahahahaha

That's the funniest thing I've read in a long time. Thanks for the laugh, CS!

Dina Abu Ramila watches over her daughter, Yasmin, at a hospital in Jerusalem. The seven-year-old Palestinian girl who had been in kidney dialysis three times weekly received a kidney from a Jewish youth who was one of five people killed in a Tel Aviv bus bombing September 19. "This was a humanitarian act," said Farouk Abu Ramila, Yasmin's grandfather, who said his family members cried when they learned the donor was Yoni Jesner, a yeshiva student from Scotland who was only 19 and planned to be a doctor. Jesner's family donated his organs on September 20. Israeli health policy on transplants forbids doctors or donors from distinguishing between Arab and Jewish recipients.

From 2005.

Maybe we should concentrate more on this sort of news item. Dina Abu Ramila is a living reminder, a child alive. Jewish organs seem to work beautifully in a Palestinian body. She is the miracle and inspiration that we can put aside hate to pursue life.

It is a pleasue reading some blogs on different sides from such educated, well informed but have a right to be angry individuals.

I do believe Israel is ramming it up for a much bigger war.

This is the first time I am calling the IDF hateful animals and no different than Hamas but here is the difference.

How can Israel go into such a small and overly populated place with no where to run and use phosphated laced bombs on poor people?

Are they doing what the Nazis did to them?

How long is Iran and other groups in Lebanon and Syria going to stand by and see so many of their brothers and sisters wiped out in Gaza?

Why did Israel start this incursion on such a large scale near to Mr.Obamas swearing in as President?

Does israel really want Obama to be President of the United States?

What does Israel have to lose having Obama as President of these United States?

Is Israel trying to spoil this historic occassion for a black man as President?

I have no answers but I hope you do because this is the time the whole world should start worrying because something is going to happen.

israel and the US should also know that IRAN IS NOT IRAQ

Where did all of Maddof the wall street criminal's $30 000 000 000 with a BBBBBBBBB ended up? You may not think this is related but think about it.

Your lies only fool wishful and deluded Muslims. Hamas is getting it's butt royally kicked. They are in total disarray. They are practically begging for a ceasefite as Israel closes in on the hospital where the leaadership is hiding. Iran won't let them surrender. Hah! Iran is willing to let the Palestinians fight to the last drop of their blood. If the Palestinians are that dumb, perhaps they don't deserve to live. I guess we should all just leave them to their fate. The more dead Islamic terrorists, the better. At least dead Palestinian children won't grow up to be future Islamic terrorists regardless of the hate they are taught from birth.

The Israelis don't need another solution. They just need to defend themselves and their land from attacks by the Muslim hoardes. The Arabs/Palestinians have proven that the only thing that gets through to them is violence. It is the only language they speak. It is the only language they understand.

It is sad really. They've had so many chances at peace that they've just thrown away for more blood and violence. Now, they are getting what they asked for. I hope it satisfies their bloodlust for now until they start the next war.

Solomon   January 13th, 2009 8:09 pm ET

. actually Hamas is not asking for ceasefire it is Israel that want to get out .
Remember the first day Israel said they want to replace Hamas.they could not.

few days latter they said they want to stop the rockets.they could not.

now they are saying as long as their is fewer rockets .they can live with it.

the next few days they will beg please get us out.

I said it few days before this war on CNN blogs Israel will enter Gaza kill few hundred civilians and then What? I said even if Hamas is destroyed you will have hundred other Hamases around you.

I don't know what war you are watching, but almost everything you said is false. You must be watching the Muslim version of the war, where you claim to be winning if you only lose 200 terrorists for every Israeli you wound.

harvey   January 13th, 2009 8:18 pm ET

In 1948, the day Israel was born, it was attacked on all fronts by the armies of five nations: Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq. Three years after the Holocaust murdered one third of the Jewish people, Israel's neighbours tried to murder the Jewish State.

Since then, from that day to this, Israel has lived with war or the threat of war...terror or the threat of terror. Yet Israel has sought peace. In 1948, under Ben Gurion. In 1967, after the Six Day War. In 1991, at Madrid. In 1993, on the White House Lawn. In 1998, at Wye Valley. In 2000, at Camp David. In 2001, at Taba. Yet Israel today is called the biggest threat to peace in the Middle East. Heaven forbid!

Every time Israel proposes peace, it is greeted with terror and suicide bombings, Grads, Katyushas and Kassams. We say to the Palestinians: you have a right to a home. All you have to do is recognize that the Jewish people also have a right to a home. Let us live, side-by-side, in peace.

What miracles Israel has achieved. Israel has gathered the Jewish people from every land under the sun and made them one nation again. Israel has taken the language of the Bible and made it a living tongue again. Israel has created a democracy in a part of the world that never knew it. It has created one of the great economies of the 21st century. It has given the world scientists and doctors, poets and novelists, musicians and artists, scholars and thinkers. Israel has more high-tech companies, symphony orchestras, universities and research institutes than countries ten times its size. Instead of nursing revenge for the past, Israel has sought to build a better future.

Though it has walked through the Valley of the Shadow of Death, Israel has sought life. This is our people and this our people's home. This is where, 4,000 years ago, our people was born...and this is where just over 60 years ago, our people was reborn.

Israel strategy:
1-accept the truce with hamas.
2- besiege palestinians in gazza till they reach despair.
3-coordinate with the reactionary regime of egypt to close all passages.
4- let some food and gaz pass from time to time to tell the international community that israel feeds palestinian .
5- Make incursions from time to time and kill one or two palestinians in order to embarrass hamas in front of its population.
6-push hamas to the limit in order to make fighters have no solution but launch rockets (their only solution).
7-tell the world that israel gives food and gas and attacked at the same time.
8-break the truce and kill civilians.
9- annex gazza to egypt and finish the palestinian caause.

The normal swerve, duck and dive followed by an insult.

The fact that a Palestinian child lives because of the organs donated by a jewish victim of a Hamas suicide bomber just doesn't fi into your hate ridden, delusional, sadistic visions and blood lust.

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 8:49 pm ET

I think israelis should elect mubarak as president because if there is anyone to thank for the safety of israel , he must be this old man who does not want to die.

Bill   January 13th, 2009 8:50 pm ET

Maria –

The cowardly Muslim terrorists are losing badly. By your poor spelling and grammar I must believe you are "preety" nervous about lying like this, though we all know how Muslims are told to lie to infidels.

There are few innocents in Gaza. The people elected an Islamic terrorist government to kill Israeli civilians. The cowardly terrorists hide behind women and children and launch attacks from crowded neighborhoods, trying to maximize civilian casualties to garner support from gullible fools like yourself. They desecrate mosques by storing weapons and ammunition there. They teach their children hate, racism, and intolerance from birth.

God is very displeased with the evil of Islam. That's why Hamas is being destroyed and they are taking the Palestinians with them – straight to hell, where they will suffer in fire and agony for eternity. They have chosen poorly.

Moss   January 13th, 2009 8:51 pm ET

I see the arabs are now pinning all their hopes on Iran to help them out.. Is that the same Iran that got their asses kicked by Saddam Hussein? Now the arabs hope and pray that Iran has a nuclear weapon to use on Israel. That will blow away all the innocent people in Palestine as well. Man, you guys are really thick! If Iran had a nuclear weapon, they would have been ashes by now! Do you think that Bush would have stopped Israel from bombing Iran if they knew that Iran had a nuclear weapon? Wow, logical thinking is really in short supply here.

Nick-Canada   January 13th, 2009 8:52 pm ET

They can check me out all they want, I am niether a muslim nor jew, my roots don't go back near any of them. But I do no right from wrong. My family hid jews in the walls of their homes in Holland during WWII, now this would have your entire family killed if the Germans caught you, we were'nt jews though why should we have helped them, because no matter race, color or creed if someone is being done wrong we will help them. I am a Christian, we and jews have contradicting views with our religions, but none the less all children of God, even Hamas. If it were muslims or budists under attack from the nazi's I am sure my family would have hid them in their walls, it just has everything to do with right and wrong. And to fix this you sometimes need to fix it by force.

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 8:53 pm ET

how do you know that we are terrorists. have killed your family with phosphoric bombs ,or what.

Professor   January 13th, 2009 8:54 pm ET

The Morons have not been able to finish the tunnels after bombing them for 18 days....

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 8:57 pm ET

if you are for peace, why didn't you sigh the nuclear non-proliferation treaty ? (by the way we all know that israel has more than 240nuclear head).

Bill   January 13th, 2009 8:58 pm ET

mohammed gharbawi -

There is only one problem with your solution (aside from the lies upon which it is based). Egypt doesn't want Gaza! The Palestinians have raped the land and turned it into a sewer. Even more, the Egyptions don't want Palestinians in their country. Like all other Arab countries, it either expels Palestinians or puts them in camps so they are not as great a threat to the population.

Let's face it. Nobody wants the Palestinian problem. The Arabs are just hypocrits, saying out of one side of their mouths that the palestinians are their brothers and out of the other side that they can't live here. The Arabs just use the Palestinians to poke Israel in the eye. They really don't want them around anymore than anyone else.

harvey   January 13th, 2009 8:59 pm ET

If you want to learn about where the vast majority of religous Jews stand on this issue please...

Look at my posting – 96k

This is what the Chief Rabbi of Great Britain and The Commonwealth has to say.

Watch it....

Professor   January 13th, 2009 8:59 pm ET

So becuase you hid Jews who were fleeing the German.... that gives them the right to kill Palestinians?

What an idiot....

If you were really honest in saying that race and color would not matter than you will be trying to hide the Palestinians from the cruelty and brutality of the Zionist Israelis.

If the Jews who fled Germany want to go back and FORCE the germans into submission then thats their choice and you can help them if you want.... but to go to an unarmed population and give tem hell for the past 60 years that is not acceptable in any book, Jewish, Christian or Muslim.

Akiva   January 13th, 2009 9:00 pm ET

Its being used pretty freely these days talking about Israelis on this blog, don't take it to heart brotha. I have been called every name in the book on this blog including a terrorist, I don't loose sleep over it. There is no room on this blog for beneymans language.

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 9:04 pm ET

I did not see you attacking all the Israeli dogs who were talking smack and cussing all the time on here.... so what is this double standard?

harvey   January 13th, 2009 9:06 pm ET

Israel should lunch????

Was that an attempt at a joke about us Israelis devouring Houmos (that lovely middle eastern delicacy) as opposed to wiping out Hamas?

Nick-Canada   January 13th, 2009 9:06 pm ET

but confess that you went as faras inciting hala to call the FBI.Do you think we are afraid of americans?
we are not terrorists; we dont kill people by using internationally banned arms.Second, we defend a just cause. It is just because we know the history of the conflict from day 1 (from Hertzel, Samuel, Belfour, etc....).Third, we blame you because you have stolen our land and we blame the reactionary regimes of egypt and jordan that don't let us free our people.

Professor   January 13th, 2009 9:11 pm ET

I did read the whole thing.... but i do not see you defending the innocent unarmed Palestinian civilians right now..... you are standing by the agressor. So, you were just giving me lip service.

Osaretin   January 13th, 2009 9:11 pm ET

Hamas could have prevented this war in the first place, Hamas started this war in Gaza and it is only Hamas who can stop it, once they stop shooting rockets to Israel then the Israeli defence force will have no reason to be fighting in Gaza. Peace can only come to that unholy land when both parties are ready to live in peace side by side. What is holy in a land where innocent people are been killed every day of the year.

CS   January 13th, 2009 9:11 pm ET

Racasel proved my earlier point. Unfortunately, a greater catastrophe than what is already occurring must happen before the people of the world unite to stop it.
At least Japan had sense enough to attack a military base, and a military ship. And they did it with conventional warfare. The U.S. could not defeat them, so they had to nuke two civilian islands. Over 200,000 civilians died with intial blasts, not to mention those who suffered after. This is the animalistic way of...Democracy. Nations like Israel, the U.S., England, and others attack nations. Then they call it something pretty, like "operation Iraqi Freedom", and all the easily fooled join right in. But when other nations do the same, or even less, and sometimes for justified means, we call them "the evil ones, and terrorists, and extremists." What a bunch of animals you are.

Nick-Canada   January 13th, 2009 9:13 pm ET

If it were used to describe yourself I would've said the same thing

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 9:17 pm ET

facts are facts
palestine has been colonized thanks to western imperialism. First, jews preferred USA. that's why Hertzel and co have tried to associate immigration to palestine with religion (the notion of the promised land);this association was fruitful. Britain has created the problem and the british are watching now as if the problem was initiated by others.

Professor   January 13th, 2009 9:21 pm ET

Herzl first choice was Argentina.... but Palestine was an easier sell becuase the Jews were there 2000 years ago.

Now they want to tell us don't go back 60 years to claim ownership thats a long time just move on.... when they went back 2000 to claim ownership to the land.... what a crock pot heads.

Nick-Canada   January 13th, 2009 9:21 pm ET

If Israel had luanched over 11, 000 unguided rockets into Palestine at innocent people just randomly I would be for them and would want to help. Yes innocent lives lost is sad, no doubt. But nothing anyone has said around here about Israel being the terrorists makes any sence at all. And thats how the people over here look at it aswell. You won't get our support ever, you have a bad case my friend.

harvey   January 13th, 2009 9:21 pm ET

Akiva below details on Chief Rabbi Jonathan Sacks.

Seems quite an educated sort of bloke.

Sacks was educated at St Mary's Primary School and Christ's College Finchley, Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge (MA), New College, Oxford, King's College London (PhD), Jews' College London and Etz Chaim Yeshiva (London).[1]

Sacks studied philosophy for his PhD[citation needed]. He has also been awarded honorary doctorates from the universities of: Cambridge; Glasgow; Haifa; Middlesex; Yeshiva University; Liverpool and St. Andrews, and is an honorary fellow of Gonville and Caius and King's College London.
Sacks has been praised for building positive relationships with the Progressive community and notably is the first Chief Rabbi to sit with a Reform Rabbi as a joint President of the Council of Christians and Jews in the UK.[2]

In September 2001, the Archbishop of Canterbury conferred on him a doctorate of divinity in recognition of his first ten years in the Chief Rabbinate of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.

In 2004, his book "The Dignity of Difference" was awarded the Grawemeyer Award for Religion.

Sacks was knighted in the Queen's Birthday Honours List in 2005 'for services to the Community and to Inter-faith Relations'.[3]

Also in 2005, Sacks visited the Jewish student organisation at the University of Cambridge, appearing as a guest of Samuel Green on the student radio show Kol Cambridge and taking call-ins.

He was made an Honorary Freeman of the London Borough of Barnet in September 2006.[4

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 9:25 pm ET

what are the possible future scenarios of this conflict?
SCENARIO 1: The palestinian state will live side by side with a jewish state where the expelled refugees will come to their lands.
SCENARIO 2: The conflict will lag till the international balance becomes in favor of palestinians.
The bottom line: Israel has to be realistic.Killing civilians now only worsens the situation.

Nick-Canada   January 13th, 2009 9:28 pm ET

So long as the Palestinians keep electing terrorist organizations like Hamas to run their tiny peice of land any country has the right to bann them from their land.

The first contact of zionists with palestine was when hertzel sent two rabiis to jerusalem to study the situation. They sent him a letter that contains the following "it is beautiful, but married", meaning that palestine has its people.

Nick-Canada   January 13th, 2009 9:37 pm ET

Civillians were killed when they bombed the ever living crap out of Berlin, I don't believe the civilians killed there made the situation worse. This stuff happens in war they don't call it a Party, its war man, people are going to die, maby if the Palestinians thought about there children before electing in Hamas they would'nt be in this situation.

the nuMber of jews who migrated to palestine was 4000 in 1931; it became 61000 in 1936. What do you think of this?
se with me the proportion of the conspiracy and the palestinian tragedy.
When the saudi king Faical went to jerusalem in the late 30s, one poet said:
Did you come to visit jerusalem, or did you come to bid her farewell.
This a real tragedy.

1- Can anyone tell me why Palestinian blood is not human? There has been over 900 dead in Gaza so far and more than 2000 injured. This represents 1/3 of those killed in September 11 terrorist attacks and still counting...

2- To my surprise it's Israel who had broken the truce on November 2008 when it had killed 6 Hamas militants in a raid. Source: the Guardian
Also this is a journalistic investigation aired by CNN to prove that’s it’s Israel who had broken the ceasefire:

3- Israel indeed had withdrawn from Gaza in 2005 and keeps saying that it had “evacuated” from Gaza. However, the siege of Gaza never stopped: no food, fuel, medicine could be brought into Gaza, even fishing was banned by Israel. In other words a large scale concentration camp.

4- Gaza is 12km long by 4 km large where 1.5 million people living in this 12×4 km. if we know that Hamas rockets do not dissociates civilians from military targets, I'll be delighted to know how mega tons bombs dropped from 10,000 feet could dissociate Hamas militants from pure innocent civilians in such high density of population?

5- I don't agree with anyone who could justify the killing of civilians by any mean. there is something more unacceptable than anti-Semitism, that is anti-humanism.

6- Why Israel had rejected the Arab peace initiative in 2002? major Arab states including Saudi Arabia offered to recognize Israel, establish diplomatic and economic relations in return for granting Palestinians a state within 1967 borders (East Jerusalem, West Bank without thousand of settlements and the Gaza Strip). However, such a reasonable deal, which required no more concessions than the rest of the International community demands, was rejected by Israel.

7- USA invaded Iraq because it "believes" on freedom and democracy to "liberate" Iraq under a forced UN Security council resolution. What about The UN security council resolutions since 1948 that Israel still not accepting (to my knowledge it's the only state in the world who defies the international community with no sanctions, nor military force to implement the UN Security Council resolutions). Here are some few:

* General Assembly Resolution 194, Dec. 11, 1948: Palestinian Refugees have the right to return to their homes in Israel.

"Resolves that the refugees wishing to return to their homes and live at peace with their neighbors should be permitted to do so at the earliest practicable date, and that compensation should be paid for the property of those choosing not to return and for loss of or damage to property which, under principles of international law or in equity, should be made good by the Governments or authorities responsible."

* Security Council Resolution 242, Nov. 22, 1967: Israel's occupation of Palestine is Illegal.

Calls for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from territories occupied in the war that year and "the acknowledgment of the sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence of every state in the area and their right to live in peace within secure and recognized boundaries free from threats or acts of force."

* Security Council Resolution 446, March 22, 1979: Israel's settlements in Palestine are Illegal.

"Determines that the policy and practices of Israel in establishing settlements in the Palestinian and other Arab territories occupied since 1967 have no legal validity and constitute a serious obstruction to achieving a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in the Middle East."

* General Assembly Resolution 3236, November 22, 1974: Palestinian have the right to Self-Determination.

Affirms "the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people in self-determination without external interference" and "to national independence and sovereignty."

* Security Council Resolution 1397, March 12, 2002: Reaffirmation of a Palestinian State

Affirms "a vision of a region where two states, Israel and Palestine, live side by side within secure and recognized borders."

For those who need facts, here is a link on what's going on in this conflict. Amazing to see 123 Israeli children have been killed by Palestinians and 1,050 Palestinian children have been killed by Israelis since September 29, 2000.

You don't make sense, but I guess that all the arab semen that you have swallowed has melted your brain. Now, go back to the brothel, the gentlemen from Al Qaeda are waiting for the bj's that you promised them.

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 9:52 pm ET

Israelis want to spread the lie that hamas runs a religious war. Hamas does not apply Shariaa in gazz; women can go out without veil; people listen to music, there is no qassa (hands amputation in case of robbery, etc). Thje problem is political and hamas has started a war of liberation. Now, the arab leader cannot sleep because they know that this war has revitalized the palestinian cause .See the blogs all around the world and you ll understand that the palestinian cause is back thanks to the israeli stupidity. Normally, israelis are careful about these matters; however since the illness of the butcher( ariel sharon) israel has a crisis of leadership. This is the beginning of the end, my friends.

Eric Gallion   January 13th, 2009 9:53 pm ET

There is only one remaining solution for two peoples who each claim the same land: Share it.

The two-state solution is dead, and has been for some time. Israel will never give up the settlements (think small cities) that would be necessary to have a viable Palestinian state. Israel will never give up total control of the region. What the people in the region need is peace – they don't need their own, exclusive state.

Israel/Palestine needs to become one, secular democratic state, where no religious or ethnic group is given preferential treatment over another, where all groups share equally in the benefits of the state, and with guarantees such that no group will be able to manipulate the democratic process so that they can suppress and discriminate against the minority.

This would be difficult, but probably not more than the present attempts at a two state solution have been shown to be. South Africa was able to transition from a situation at least as bad.

Two great books on the subject: "The One State Solution", by Virginia Tilley, and "One Country", by Ali Abunimah. Check them out.

Tony Larue   January 13th, 2009 9:57 pm ET

Well Guys,

No one in my family have ever been killed or injured by a suicide bomb and when I go to sleep I do not have to worry about rockets but I am in sympathy for what the Israelis are going through.

Do I feel the pain and I am sad to see what has is happening to the folks in Israel. Again, when I see buses in Israel with innocent retired Israelis blown to bits as a result of suicide bombers I am in pain.

I get angry when I see children with blown off heads and the elderly weeping with body parts missing in Gaza I pray for peace.

Please guys do not get dirty on these blogs with each other just pray that the carnage ends.

Ok do not for me and the world becaus eit is becoming scary.

I have asked all the questions through many of my blogs. I cannot do anything else to stop the killings because I am just small fish in a large pond. I have learned a lot from both sides during my many times sending and reading your blogs.

I am a concerned child of the universe who is saying goodbye and spend some time with your family and friends please!

dan perman   January 13th, 2009 9:57 pm ET

where do you get your facts from?

a vast majority of israelis are for the two state solution, assuming real peace-without kassam rockets, without grad rockets, without suicide bombers

most palestinians (long before the present crisis) are FOR suicide bombings

and what do you mean by no group will be able to manipulate the democratic process? the arab members of the knesset are doing exactly this!!

Israelis propaganda is based on the following axis:the association of Hamas with Alqaeda.Of course, they know the difference between the two , but they do it to fool americans and europeans who ignore our politics and culture in general. Nobody in the arab world has a sympathy for ossama binladen: he done irreparable harm to our cause. If there any sympathisers with him in the arab world , it is because of poverty and illiteracy. on the other hand, all the intellectual elite of the arab world sympathize with hamas because we know the phenomenology of the conflict, we know the degree of the conspiracy, we know what is at stake, and we know the potential outlet.

dan perman   January 13th, 2009 10:04 pm ET

I am not fooled as to believe these two seperate Islamic terrorist groups are the same. Like the American street gangs the Bloods and Crips they are completely different yet are both gangs. If someone does not know what a Blood is but know what a Crip is you could relate Bloods to Crips as to make the person understand what they are and what they are about. If there is an American out there who does not know who or what Hamas is you can simply relate them to Al-Queda to further make understood what they are and what they stand for. As we all know who Al-Queda is, terrorists like Hamas, simple.

I thought you were smarter than Dan. Iran has its strategy in the region and this is its right and to benefit from iran to achieve a national goal is another. This notion of "made by" is not accurate in politics. As you kow, there are no permanent friends in politics; there ar permanent interests. Suppose, the us Turns bankrupt tomorrow, would israel keep its allaiance with it; you would go to china or russia. This is politics. In the oriental world, we tend to personalize things. However, this being said, it reremains that i prefer iran to egypt and for me the arab world is making a big mistake in ignoring iran and relying on the regime of mubarak.
Now, people all over the world do not sympathize with hamas for political reasons, but for humanitarian motives. What you do in gazza is unprecedented and history will judge you.

dan perman   January 13th, 2009 10:30 pm ET

taht is the difference between jews and you

we would stand with the US even then

YOU would go to china, right?

Akiva   January 13th, 2009 10:30 pm ET

Linda   January 13th, 2009 10:31 pm ET

Hello everyone,
Looks like a lively discussion:)

dan perman   January 13th, 2009 10:32 pm ET

go and hang urself, u would do the world a big favor

Professor   January 13th, 2009 10:34 pm ET

We have seen this sign all over the world now...

David's Star = Swastika

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 10:35 pm ET

you call hamas a gang, and i call israel a gang..Anyway israel's colonisation has been accomplished b y Haggana gangs, right?

Professor   January 13th, 2009 10:35 pm ET

Dan the booldthirsty,

Its the occupation stupid....

Professor   January 13th, 2009 10:36 pm ET

You are so coward instead of taking it on the German to revenge your father.... you go to innocent unarmed civilians.... what a stupid jerk.

Professor   January 13th, 2009 10:37 pm ET

Its the Haganah, The Irgun and the Stern gangs stupid.

Linda   January 13th, 2009 10:38 pm ET

I don't know, that is why I have been jumping on and off the blog. I want to discuss things, but my body can't take the stress right now, the Chemo is kicking my butt this week.
Did you go to the protest in NTC day before yesterday, I was concerned for you.

Professor   January 13th, 2009 10:38 pm ET

You history is all well known to everybody.... you cannot hide it.

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 10:39 pm ET

You cannot judge now, because there is no democracy in the arab world. As a proof, our leaders don't react to your naked agression while people boil in th streets. You may like this statement now, but you should worry about the future.

Akiva   January 13th, 2009 10:41 pm ET

dan perman

why you still talk so much ?
where is your scizo friend moss?

clever guy!

dan perman   January 13th, 2009 10:42 pm ET

no democracy

so why do egypt, jordan, syria, iran and lebanon claim to be democracies

the masses in the streets of arab countries NEVER dared to do anything against their rulers, you simply lie!!

Nick-Canada   January 13th, 2009 10:42 pm ET

Read it again fool and tell me again I called them a gang. What are you talking about?

Linda   January 13th, 2009 10:43 pm ET

dan perman   January 13th, 2009 10:44 pm ET

Linda   January 13th, 2009 10:46 pm ET

No Kidding, Dan

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 10:47 pm ET

hamas fighters wear idf uniforms and fight israelis (this is an allusion to the 12 idf soldiers killed by a suicide bomber from Al?aqssa brigade who was wearing an idf uniform in western bayt lahya ).

This proves that fighters don't hide behind children, right?

Professor   January 13th, 2009 10:47 pm ET

Go back and check the blog.... it was you the cowards Israeli supporters who been insulting everyone who speaks against the Nazi Israeli Occupation, personal insults, insulting religions, family insults.... only cowards will do that.

Linda   January 13th, 2009 10:48 pm ET

Hi professor

hippie   January 13th, 2009 10:52 pm ET

i,m having fun reading these blogs, hate is pretty powerful.
hamas and israeli government are dicks.they're the ones who should get killed, not innocent people.

Akiva   January 13th, 2009 10:53 pm ET

Hi, ... did you see the facebook of your friend dan perman :D

Nick-Canada   January 13th, 2009 10:53 pm ET

Hey Linda
Actually a warm front has moved in and its about +3'C outside, which is a lot nicer than two weeks ago which was -38'C, huge change in just a few weeks. I don't know off hand what that is in farrenhiet. All our snow is melting!

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 10:56 pm ET

why do call me a fool.Is this the education you have in the west. you insult people who discuss with you. By the way, even Dan has not stopped calling me a liar. Why? Do I have to defend the arab systems in order to be honest? THERE WILL COME A TIME WHEN REGIMES WILL CHANGE AND THIS TIME IS NEARER THAN YOU MIGHT THINK.DONT WORRY ABOUT US.W e can read the dynamic of history; can you?

Linda   January 13th, 2009 10:56 pm ET

I hope you don't flood from all of the melting snow.
Brandon said it was -10 in vancouver last evening when we were on here. Brrrrrrrr

Nick-Canada   January 13th, 2009 11:01 pm ET

Hope you start feeling better soon, my baby sister has Lukemia and my Grandfather has cancer in his bones, aswell my girlfriends mom has two types of cancer one cureable and one not, she is taking kemo right now aswell, I truley feel for you and yours and pray you will come out on top.

Professor   January 13th, 2009 11:01 pm ET

Akiva   January 13th, 2009 11:02 pm ET

Israel must face the international court of justice!
israel is doing a genocide!
israel is a nazi country!
israel dont respect any law
no human rights
no international law

israel is the nazi country of today!

Nick-Canada   January 13th, 2009 11:04 pm ET

Mohhammed I called you a fool cecause you claimed I called Hamas a gang. But nowhere in there did I describe them as that. Read and you will see I called the street gangs, gangs, and the terrorists, terrorists. Sorry if I offened you but you made it easy for me to do so.

Linda   January 13th, 2009 11:04 pm ET

'thank you Nick
I'm sure I will start to feel better soon. I hope your family members come through their cancer. Fortunately, I do not have cancer. I have 3 Autoimmune diseases, they are horrible, so I am on Chemo and other drugs to knock back my immune system, because it is trying to kill me. I had a relapse in November, and I'm trying to fight my way out of it. It will take time, but I am sure that I will see remission soon :)

Akiva   January 13th, 2009 11:04 pm ET

dan perman

do you need hundred years to bring up a new account?
shall we advice you? :D

Professor   January 13th, 2009 11:04 pm ET

Man Nick,

maybe you should concentrate on praying instead of being here chearing for the baby killers.

Nick-Canada   January 13th, 2009 11:05 pm ET

Sorry I mean mohammed with one h and because with a b

Akiva   January 13th, 2009 11:07 pm ET

"Sorry I mean mohammed with one h and because with a b"

mohamed with "b"

and you wanna blame me because my typos?

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 11:08 pm ET

Nick-Canada   January 13th, 2009 11:09 pm ET

I am sorry for my asumption, Chemo treatment is not fun by anymeans, thank you for your support, things are looking up.

Akiva   January 13th, 2009 11:11 pm ET

do you try again your low-level-psychology to keep us off-topic?
why you dont join a chemo blog?

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 11:11 pm ET

its ok

Linda   January 13th, 2009 11:12 pm ET

Assumptions? don't worry about it, not many people are on Chemo unless they have cancer, and boy, I think your family members have it a lot worse off than me. I feel for them so, I know what it is like to almost die, or look down the barrell of death, it is very scary.
I hope you give them all of the love and support you can. that is what helps me more than anything. and treat them norma, but i am sure you already know that. :)

Professor   January 13th, 2009 11:13 pm ET

Thats what the bankrupt will do.... when he cannot defeat your facts then he will attack your spelling and your grammer as if we are in English class....

Linda   January 13th, 2009 11:14 pm ET

Nick-Canada   January 13th, 2009 11:15 pm ET

You can't believe yours are just typos, Its how you put an entire sentence together that doe'snt make sence!

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 11:15 pm ET

from where you draw all this hate ? REALLY

Akiva   January 13th, 2009 11:16 pm ET

i am learning from you ;)

Nick-Canada   January 13th, 2009 11:17 pm ET

We all make typo's

Akiva   January 13th, 2009 11:17 pm ET

he need 100 years to open a new stupid account ;)

Professor   January 13th, 2009 11:18 pm ET

Oh you do not make mistake in putting a sentence together?

Perfect NIck..... come one stop this bankrupt techniques.

Linda   January 13th, 2009 11:21 pm ET

I agree, its a must.

Nick-Canada   January 13th, 2009 11:25 pm ET

Professor you just did, shut up already!

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 11:26 pm ET

Nick-Canada   January 13th, 2009 11:27 pm ET

If you knew english you would have put an S at the end of mistake, how ironic

Linda   January 13th, 2009 11:28 pm ET

Did I understand you correctly when you said you were in Asia?

Linda   January 13th, 2009 11:29 pm ET

So, is there a topic of discussion today? Or is it just, "make insults" day?

Professor   January 13th, 2009 11:30 pm ET

Have you guys heard of Jewish Professor Andre Noche (sp) at Nice University?

He sent a letter to the Israeli Embassy in Paris equating Israel with Nazi Germany.... and said that Israel is digging its own grave with it colonial ambitions.

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 11:31 pm ET

As we speak now, people inghazza haven't slept for 17 consecutive nights. Living in gazza is like living in a concentration camp. God ,be with them.

Nick-Canada   January 13th, 2009 11:33 pm ET

We all make typo's all day long professor, You can a least put a sentence together that makes sence, unlike Akiva more than half the time its more than just typo's in Akiva's case. We get so mad sometimes and type to fast and don't proof read before sending, we all do this, Akiva you just cannot understand sometimes. (Does'nt)

Linda   January 13th, 2009 11:34 pm ET

I was watching a special report today from Gaza. They were showing the Ambulance drivers and what they are doing day to day. My hat is off to them. (I don't like the term Ambulance Driver, in this country, they are EMT's or Paramedics, but that is what they called themselves)

Professor   January 13th, 2009 11:35 pm ET

He is from the WWII era and he ended the letter with wishing on the leaders of Israel the worst punishment from their G-d.

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 11:35 pm ET

when did i say it?

Linda   January 13th, 2009 11:37 pm ET

I thought you said something like "we in the orient". I could be mistaken. I have always wanted to go to Asia, so I was just wondering. :)

Nick-Canada   January 13th, 2009 11:38 pm ET

Was that -10 degrees celcius

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 11:39 pm ET

dan perman   January 13th, 2009 11:41 pm ET

i am gay!
i am a jewish pro-israel nazi!

i am stupid!!!

Linda   January 13th, 2009 11:42 pm ET

Sorry, it must have been someone else.

Linda   January 13th, 2009 11:44 pm ET

Is that really your facebook page?

Nick-Canada   January 13th, 2009 11:44 pm ET

I live way up north, I am about 3 hours away from Alaska right now, maby closer depends how fast you drive. -10 is abnormal for Vancouver, but where I am would be considered beautiful, so be it that is is above freezing its like paradice around here. We usually flood each year because of our river, but usually hits farmers fields before it hits our town. Major risk would be flood waters taking out our only bridge in and out of the place.

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 11:46 pm ET

OK I meant oriental societies as opposed to the west. This has to do with the divisions adopted in cultural studies.
Bye Linda. I ve got to sleep.working tomorrow.

mohammed gharbawi   January 13th, 2009 11:46 pm ET

Linda   January 13th, 2009 11:47 pm ET

Wow, you are way up there nick. My sister is on the US/Canada boarder in ND. It was 80 degrees (F) warmer here yesterday than at her house. I can't take the cold!

Nick-Canada   January 13th, 2009 11:48 pm ET

I mean paradise with an s

Professor   January 13th, 2009 11:48 pm ET

I am not going to disagree with you on that one... LMAOROTF

Linda   January 13th, 2009 11:48 pm ET

Bye Mohammed, have a great night.

Professor   January 13th, 2009 11:52 pm ET

Hey Nick,

I am sure there is a lot of empty land up there why don't you suggest to all you friends to go establish the State of Israel up there?... I am sure Bush will not mind and will try to help too.

Nick-Canada   January 13th, 2009 11:53 pm ET

Ya its up there, the scenery is breathtaking I am surrounded by mountains and everything that comes along with the wilderness, but I love the sun, sounds like its a lot nicer where you are, be it that I am so high up our winters are longer so I have a bit yet before I need my shades like you.

Linda   January 13th, 2009 11:54 pm ET

Hi Professor,
It seems like everyone is really angry on here today. What is going on?

Nick-Canada   January 13th, 2009 11:54 pm ET

This was not the land promised to the Israelis, why would they want it.

Linda   January 13th, 2009 11:55 pm ET

I will be envious of you in mid summer, when it is 120 (F) here. That is when I head to the Islands.

Professor   January 13th, 2009 11:57 pm ET

Oh so you really believe they were promised this land? And all the orthodox jews are liars?....

Linda   January 13th, 2009 11:58 pm ET

You are not stupid! Is that your real facebook page?

Professor   January 13th, 2009 11:58 pm ET

well just more innocent Palestinian women and children murdered by IOF cowards.... thats it for today.

GLeigh   January 13th, 2009 11:59 pm ET

I've been cursed and threatened for wanting a peaceful solution. Some do not want Israel to exist. Since I'm a mom, turned fifty on Friday, and threw out my back yesterday spitting out toothpaste while sneezing, perhaps I should be flattered. Pitiful. Read my previous posts. I've nothing to hide.

Linda   January 14th, 2009 12:00 am ET

Hi GLeigh-
I have missed YOU!

Professor   January 14th, 2009 12:00 am ET

Come on Linda do you Dan more than Dan knows himself?

dan perman   January 14th, 2009 12:00 am ET

your a pro israel jerk!
your a fascist as i am!

Nick-Canada   January 14th, 2009 12:01 am ET

The same reason America would'nt give them Alaska. Sorry prof. they (Israelis) are going to be there till the day you die and long after. It's their land, always will be, and they can sleep well at night knowing they have the support of Canada and the United States

dan perman   January 14th, 2009 12:01 am ET

I am Moss

i am a stupid gay!

Linda   January 14th, 2009 12:02 am ET

I never knew that Nazi's wanted peace for the world. Or that they try to keep people from fighting, and only want everyone to get along.
I think someone is mistaken.
Will you answer my question????? Is that your real face book page?

dan perman   January 14th, 2009 12:03 am ET

Israel is a fascist nazi country!
i hate israel!
israel is doing a genocide!!

pro israel is gay!

i am a stupid idiot!

GLeigh   January 14th, 2009 12:03 am ET

This morning I came on. Wow the pro-whatevers, not peace people, are really nasty and try to be scary. Luckily, I'm scary myself in my own way. I try to be nice and hunt for peace. Some guy said he was making an Israeli's backside wider, a prisoner I think he said. Yuk. Very cruel and yucky. I asked him not to address me directly again.

Professor   January 14th, 2009 12:04 am ET

Oh I guess you do not believe in what your bible tells you eh?

earle,florida   January 14th, 2009 12:04 am ET

The situation just gets worse; I see uncontrollable destruction in the months ahead; woman will bare-arms to take revenge for siblings lost; the governments will be forced in the slaughter,or be slaughtered; life is longer a passion, but a necessity to take their sworn enemies life; with unrepenting vengence, their shall be no peace; for justice of the future shall never escape the past, never more!

Linda   January 14th, 2009 12:04 am ET

I think I know Dan about as well as I know you.

Linda   January 14th, 2009 12:06 am ET

That is horrible. OMG! What a weirdo! I don't even want to think about that. Did you ask him how many salads he was tossing? hahahaha

Linda   January 14th, 2009 12:08 am ET

I fear you could be right.

GLeigh   January 14th, 2009 12:09 am ET

Hi Professor. Nice to see you again. My Bible (with a cap by the way) says nothing about wanting to wipe out Israel. I've been on this site awhile. We've narrowed down your goals. I'm stunned and saddened, but now I know. All religions should have their texts start with a cap. It drive me crazy to see Buddha or Hindu began with small letters. I'm just trying to learn about the people of the world and how they can live and grow. Children surviving for the next generation seems wise too.

Linda   January 14th, 2009 12:09 am ET

dan perman   January 14th, 2009 12:10 am ET

i was a hater :(
i was pro israel!

i hate all of you ... damn israel!

Nick-Canada   January 14th, 2009 12:10 am ET

As Canadians we just about welcome anybody. If they all want to immigrate to Canada I am sure that would'nt be a problem, but bet on them never opening a blockade still, I would fight for it to remain a country with no one in it, so long as a terrorist organization wanted to plant seeds there. And I am not even a Jew.

dan perman   January 14th, 2009 12:11 am ET

you are crazy!

how can you support such a genocide?
you are not human!

Professor   January 14th, 2009 12:12 am ET

Well, why the Christian right supports Israel?

Have you asked yourself that question?

Linda   January 14th, 2009 12:12 am ET

I'm coming to your sons wedding, and I am going to slap you! :)

GLeigh   January 14th, 2009 12:13 am ET

dan never sounded right to me. It was bound to happen.

Professor   January 14th, 2009 12:15 am ET

For Christians who interpret the bible in a literal fashion, Israel has a crucial role to play in bringing on the Second Coming of Christ.

GLeigh   January 14th, 2009 12:15 am ET

Read his old posts. They sounded staged and silly, fanatic. I never addressed that stuff.

dan perman   January 14th, 2009 12:15 am ET

JJdT   January 14th, 2009 12:16 am ET

Ignore it, it's Akiva pretending to be Dan. Akiva is looking for attention.

Linda   January 14th, 2009 12:16 am ET

My mom and step father are Christian. My step father is a minister. I asked them that question yeasterday. They say that the Jewish people are chosen by GOD, and it is in the bible. They also looked up the maps from biblical times, and according to that, Israel is much smaller now, than it was then. It included part of Syria, Jordan, and Egypt.

Linda   January 14th, 2009 12:17 am ET

That is the funniest thing I have heard all day! :)

Professor   January 14th, 2009 12:19 am ET

“The Jews need conversion,” says Kay Arthur. “They need to know that the Messiah is coming. And the Bible tells us what’s going to happen.” Arthur heads an organization called Precept Ministries in Chattanooga, Tenn. She brings thousands of pilgrims to the Holy Land.

The Christian fundamentalists believe the only Israelis who are really listening to God are the hard line Jewish settlers who live on the West Bank and Gaza and refuse to move. The Christians trudge up to these settlements as if they were making pilgrimages to holy shrines. That’s because they and the settlers share a core conviction.

They believe that God gave the land of Israel to the Jewish people. “Every grain of sand, every grain of sand between the Dead Sea, the Jordan River, and, and the Mediterranean Sea belongs to the Jews,” says McAteer. This includes the West Bank and Gaza.

What about the three million Palestinians who live on the West Bank and Gaza? McAteer suggests the bulk of them could be cleansed from this God-given real estate and moved to some Arab country. Nothing can come between the Jews and their land.

GLeigh   January 14th, 2009 12:19 am ET

JJ – that sounds about right. We can't see either other so anyone can be anyone. It sounds like her/him.

dan perman   January 14th, 2009 12:20 am ET

So, Linda,

We should expect Syria, Lebanon and Jordan to give up their land soon or face death too?

Nick-Canada   January 14th, 2009 12:23 am ET

I am sure it would be quite easy to round up all Palaestinians, put them on a train and send them to the ovens, but they are not. Hamas hears a shot go off and they duck behind little children a women, saving themselves and then telling the world they are aiming at these kids and woman. Thats a coward, and were not falling for it!

GLeigh   January 14th, 2009 12:24 am ET

Sounds like Akiva. I am dan. I am moss (whatever that means). I am JJdT. I am gay I was pro israel. israel is a crime! Sounds like Akiva, not dan. Dan makes whole sentences.

Linda   January 14th, 2009 12:24 am ET

It would be funny in a way if they didn't actually have weapons. That's a scary thought.

Nick-Canada   January 14th, 2009 12:29 am ET

Got to go, nice seeing you again! And GLeigh don't let anyone talk to you the way they did earlier and don't take it to heart, when they know they are wrong and have no good comeback on you being right, the next best thing for them to do is name call to make them feel better, really you can take it as being in the right, and they know it.

dan perman   January 14th, 2009 12:30 am ET

Linda its my real facebook site!

look at my pic its me, look at my pro-israel friends!
i am so smart, i am a hater!

Linda   January 14th, 2009 12:33 am ET

I don't think they want to speed up the second coming. I think it is because GOD said in the bible, that they should (support them and love them). That is my understanding.
But GOD ls said that you should love your neighbor, as yourselves. So, I don't know. I love everyone because they are human beings. Until they wrong me, I show them love, then, if they wrong me, I have to forgive them. Not for them, but for myself. Although, I have no religous affiliation, so that is my personal beliefs.

Nov 29, 2005 | Throughout the last five years, as the Christian right has assumed ever greater power and prominence in America, the organized Jewish community has been remarkably quiescent. Traditionally, Jewish leaders have been among the most vigilant guardians of American secularism, seeing the separation of church and state as key to Jewish equality. But faced with an evangelical president who seemed inviolable and an alliance of convenience with the religious right over Israel, Jewish leaders didn't raise much of an outcry when billions of taxpayer dollars were diverted toward religious charities through Bush's faith-based initiative. They didn't make a fuss when the administration filled the bureaucracy with veterans of groups like the Family Research Council and the Christian Coalition. As leaders of the religious right and their allies in the Republican Party trumpeted plans to "take America back," observers detected growing anxiety among ordinary American Jews, but there was little response from organized Jewry.

This month, that started to change. Two major Jewish figures - Abraham Foxman, national director of the Anti-Defamation League, and Rabbi Eric Yoffie, president of the Union for Reform Judaism - have taken on the religious right and, by extension, the Republican Party. By doing so, they have enraged some evangelicals and opened a fissure in the larger Jewish community. Some leaders are worried about provoking a conservative backlash and ushering in a new era of anti-Semitism. Others rejoice that someone has finally articulated what so many ordinary American Jews have been thinking. Either way, the culture wars have suddenly taken on an overtly sectarian cast.

On Nov. 3, Abraham Foxman gave a speech to an ADL meeting, calling attacks on church-state separation the "key domestic challenge to the American Jewish community and to our democratic values." "[T]oday we face a better financed, more sophisticated, coordinated, unified, energized, and organized coalition of groups in opposition to our policy positions on church-state separation than ever before," he said. "Their goal is to implement their Christian worldview. To Christianize America. To save us!" Among the major players in this campaign, Foxman listed Focus on the Family, the Alliance Defense Fund, the American Family Association and the Family Research Council.

Foxman lamented the divisions in the Jewish community over the issue, noting that there is much less unity than there was 15 years ago. Nor could Jews count on their old allies in the civil rights struggles - African-Americans and Latinos - for help. Those bonds have withered; those groups no longer tend to see church-state separation as a vital condition for minority rights. With the America that Jews have prospered in threatening to disappear, Foxman called for a meeting of Jewish leadership to plan a coordinated strategy.

One person who plans to be there is Rabbi Eric Yoffie, whose group is the largest Jewish organization in the country, representing more than 900 congregations. Two weeks after Foxman's broadside, Yoffie blasted the religious right in a sermon delivered to around 5,000 people at the Union's biannual convention in Houston. Yoffie says he hadn't coordinated with Foxman, but the two share some of the same concerns - though Yoffie approaches the issue from a religious rather than a political perspective.

"We are particularly offended by the suggestion that the opposite of the religious right is the voice of atheism," he told his audience. "We are appalled when 'people of faith' is used in such a way that it excludes us, as well as most Jews, Catholics and Muslims. What could be more bigoted than to claim that you have a monopoly on God and that anyone who disagrees with you is not a person of faith?"

Much of Yoffie's sermon argued that for many Jews, liberalism is the result of religious values, not their antithesis. Being a liberal believer, he said, "means believing that religion involves concern for the poor and the needy, and giving a fair shake to all. When people talk about God and yet ignore justice, it just feels downright wrong to us. When they cloak themselves in religion and forget mercy, it strikes us as blasphemy. "

And then he launched into the most controversial part of his sermon - an impassioned denunciation of right-wing homophobia that invoked the historical parallel of Nazism. "We understand those who believe that the Bible opposes gay marriage, even though we read that text in a very different way," he said. "But we cannot understand why any two people who make a lifelong commitment to each other should be denied legal guarantees that protect them and their children and benefit the broader society. We cannot forget that when Hitler came to power in 1933, one of the first things that he did was ban gay organizations. And today, we cannot feel anything but rage when we hear about gay men and women, some on the front lines, being hounded out of our armed services. Yes, we can disagree about gay marriage. But there is no excuse for hateful rhetoric that fuels the hellfires of anti-gay bigotry."

Yoffie's sermon was more than 8,000 words long, and ranged over all kinds of subjects. By all accounts, though, the crowd responded most enthusiastically to his salvos against the religious right. This was something that American Jews have been desperate to hear from their leadership, but much of that leadership has been unable or unwilling to say it. As the Jewish newspaper the Forward wrote in an editorial, "There are many reasons to applaud this month's back-to-back speeches by Abe Foxman and Eric Yoffie on the dangers of the religious right, but here's the most important: They have given voice to something their constituents have been thinking and feeling for a long time."

Why the silence until now? Part of it has to do with Israel. Christian Zionism, inspired by end-times beliefs that make the return of Jews to Israel a precondition for the second coming, has made American evangelicals the world's staunchest backers of Israeli hawks. (Their Jewish allies usually choose to ignore the fact that the Christian Zionist's apocalyptic scenario ends with unsaved Jews being slaughtered and condemned to hell.) But while evangelicals support Israel for their own eschatological reasons, there have been threats, implicit and explicit, that such support might weaken if Jews oppose their domestic agenda too aggressively. Indeed, in response to Foxman's speech, Tom Minnery, vice president of government and public policy at Focus on the Family, told the Forward, "If you keep bullying your friends, pretty soon you won't have any.'" (Neither he nor anyone else from Focus on the Family returned a call for comment from Salon.)

According to JJ Goldberg, the Forward's editor, such warnings issue from inside the administration as well. "The timing here is crucial," he says. "The Bush administration is imploding, so the fear of White House retaliation is much lower than it was. That was a very real fear. It wasn't just a theoretical fear about Israel. It was threats. Play nice or you won't be able to come in and talk to us about the things you need. The major Jewish organizations, either individually or working through AIPAC [the American Israel Public Affairs Committee], they go in every week because there's all kinds of stuff they need - a missile, a box of bullets, intelligence sharing. It's good for them to be able to play that role and it's good for Israel and the United States to have an intermediary. In Tom DeLay's Washington, if you didn't play nice, you didn't get to walk in the door. So there has been this silence, coupled with the fact that they didn't think they could win." (Of course, not all Jews support AIPAC or the Israeli right, but those who don't have little presence and less influence in Washington.)

Yoffie, for his part, says his group never had access to the White House, but agrees that the dynamic Goldberg describes has affected the broader Jewish community. "Does that operate in the Jewish community? Sure. Does it work for us? Absolutely not. We say what we think." Yet the reason his speech has received so much attention both inside the Jewish world and outside, he suggests, is because the Bush administration is under attack more broadly, and so there's more space for dissent.

Nick – no one "talks" me the other way. I'm no way. I just want truth, however hard it is for any one side, peace mostly, and the mean to realize they are mean before it's toooo late for them. Reasonable people should be able to co-exist with blowing each other up. Perhaps that is too much to ask.

You will not co-exist regardless of any pain and suffering of Israel or Gaza or any proposed peace plan. That is your stance. Admit it. I was really bashed on the rocks earlier, read back. I just wanted a peaceful solution. You said no. Don't blame that on historical stuff. It's your choice. Life is about choosing your path.

Linda   January 14th, 2009 12:45 am ET

Isn't that the point of all of this. Trying to live in peace with your neighbor? Some people do not want to do this. And then they want to blame their neighbor for their problems.

Nick-Canada   January 14th, 2009 12:46 am ET

Got to go but not at all, I said we welcome just about anybody, anyone who wants to become Canadian, and not just wants to move to Canada. Arabs are welcomed and we have a lot of them which is fine.
Just cause we have all nationalities living here we still go by our Canadian traditions, a small fraction of Arabs against Israel in this country aint going to change our views on terrorism, or anyone against Israel here for that matter. Anyone who moves here better put their traditions behind them or stay in the country where they are from if they dissagree with the moves we make. Like Palestinians protesting on the streets of the U.S. and here. If they got a problem with our ways then get out and move back to the place where they support terror. They now live here they should support our country, bottom line, if not they should've never come over. Go protest in the Gaza strip for all I care just not here.

The only Canadian traditions I am aware of belong to the aboriginal indians. Everyone else here came from an immigrant family at some point, including yourself I presume. What does supporting one's country have to do with supporting Israel in the first place and why try to link the two? By Stephen R. Kaufman, M.D.

Part 20: Violence in the Hebrew Scriptures

Violence is a central theme of the Hebrew Scriptures, with over 1000 passages discussing violence or threats of violence. (See Raymond Schwager, Must There Be Scapegoats?) Rarely, God is violently destructive for no apparent reason. Uncommonly, God angrily takes out revenge for evildoing. Much more frequently, God hands over evildoers to violent humans, who do the punishing for God. An example of God turning over evildoers to violent humans is Ezekiel 21:31, which describes God’s wrath against the Ammonites: “And I will pour out my indignation upon you; I will blow upon you with the fire of my wrath; and I will deliver you into the hands of brutal men, skillful to destroy.” One might see this as divine retribution, but one may also read this passage as illustrating the effects of mimetic violence.

The Hebrews, hating their enemies, believed that their own violence was ordained by God–sacred acts of retribution and justice. It is certainly possible that God is indeed bent on violence and revenge. I think that one may also, reasonably, adopt a Girardian approach and conclude that the ancient Hebrew’s own written account of conflicts attributes their own vengeful violence to the will of God.

It is remarkable that, in about 70 passages of the Hebrew Scriptures, people are punished by the effects of their own sinfulness. For example, the writer of Proverbs observes, “He who digs a pit will fall into it; and a stone will come back upon him who starts it rolling.” (26-27) Similarly, the Psalmist writes, “He makes a pit, digging it out, and falls into the hole which he has made. His mischief returns upon his own head, and on his own pate his violence descends.” (7:15-16) From a Girardian perspective, this is a profound insight. These passages assert that our violence is not the solution to injustice but rather the cause of discord and misery that ultimately hurts everyone.

How are the Hebrew Scriptures different from the justifications for violence seen among other people? The answer is that the picture is ambiguous. The ancient Hebrews were starting to recognize the process of victimization. Perhaps their experience as slaves in Egypt made them more sensitive to the predicament of the scapegoated victim. Whatever the cause, the Psalmist’s lamentations articulate well the victim’s perspective. About 100 of the 150 psalms relate the writer’s anguish at being a victim. He is, for example, “despised” and “hated without cause” and his tormenters are “numerous” and “deceitful.” However, like other ancient people, he often dreams of revenge (for example Psalm 137: “O daughter of Babylon, you devastator! Happy shall be he who requites you with what you have done to us! Happy shall be he who takes your little ones and dashes them against the rock!”). The ancient Hebrews often sought mimetic, reciprocal violence, even if the victims of revenge were innocent children, but at the same time they were starting to recognize the scapegoating mechanism, the process of victimization, and the hazards of mimetic violence.

blood is red   January 14th, 2009 11:03 am ET

Israel doesn’t want a democratic independent Palestinian state without Hamas. If this was possible then not any excuse valid for the Israelis to stop Palestinians asking for their rights and what lawfully belong to them .Also in absolute freedom they will be able to breed like crazy with non stop.
Hamas not want a democratic Palestinian state where people live in peace and prosperity. Because without fear you can’t control people and implement your extreme fanatic policies.
The Arab rulers they hold the power without real and free elections need Israel attacking Palestinians, to keep the mind of their people full of hate and then no one will talk about freedom and democracy challenging the ruling class and the religious fanatics controlling the crowd with promises in heaven.
The Americans want Hamas and other extremists alive and not really dead because if the Middle East issue can resolve then the Israelis not have anymore the excuse that they lives are under threat and they should stop play the sheriff in the region protecting USA interests.
Maybe I am wrong or maybe I am right?

fd   January 14th, 2009 11:06 am ET

Israel can never defeat hamas or any other muslim country.people of gaza who sacrificed their life for their nation will always be remembered.

Darfur, Sri Lanka, Congo, Somalia and Chechnia are all in wars as well. Where is the UN outrage? Oh, that's right, they only (like many here) only care about the Palestinians. Where was the outrage when over a three year period, over 6,500 rockets and mortars were fird onto civilian targets in Israel? That's right, it was caused by the Palestinians, so it is ok. Amazing what the UN and CNN find acceptable.

Jay   January 14th, 2009 7:27 pm ET

FATINA BARCLAY - Do you even watch the news? Every night there are images of dead Palestinians and some commentator taking the side of Hamas (who put those innocent civilians in harms way in the first place).

Jay   January 14th, 2009 7:36 pm ET

Go Israel. Stand up for yourself and do not worry about what a bunch of apologists have to say.

I.B. Wright   January 15th, 2009 12:37 am ET

Jay- What's your point? Sounds like you're cheering for Israel to kill as many more innocent civilians as possible -as long as they are Palestinian. Keep that up and Israel have to look in the mirror to find a friend.

M Ariely   January 15th, 2009 3:53 am ET

I dont like my comment
Because the triple moral standard I have to post it

Since 1948

16500000+ Muslim killed by Muslims

Examples: Bangladesh 3000000+ Iraq:2500000+Iran:1000000+ Sudan:3500000+Algeria 1200000+Yemen:250000+Lebanon:170000+
20000 Bangladesh women, countless number is Sudan HAVE BEEN RAPED AND MUTILATED
Gas used by Iraq & Egypt
Entire families killed by sword in Algeria
Black slaves rescued from Arabs by volunteers
Terrorizing world cultures

NATO in Balkans,Afganistan,Iraq airplanes bombed from high altitude killing many civilians.
They didn't put their ground forces in danger in order to spare casualties

Russia in Chechnya and Caucuses destroy entire cities and villages including the civilians

2000 years persecution
Attacked by Arabs armies&terror since 1948
The only country under treat of existence
Civilians attacked& murdered by terrorists hiding behind Arabs human shield

Despite the above Israel is fighting with unmatched moral values
Provides food&medicine to enemy
Putting in danger solders, not using power entitled by war lows
Hamas manufacture rockets and Israel provides electricity

David Freeman   January 15th, 2009 6:11 am ET

Mr. Ariely,

It is so easy to spot the Israeli Propaganda machine these days (you guys use to be more convincing before) every one that starts with statistics about Muslims killing Muslims and end their statement of how good Israel is.. is an Israeli propagandas that trying to influence the American Media/readers/American people.. I want to tell you as an American, that many of us here in America are sick of you and your lies.. and we are opening our eyes.. you own our politicians, our media and our public opinion.. for your end gains.. I promise you..this will change

David Freeman   January 15th, 2009 6:32 am ET

you sound so stupid acting like you care about innocent Palestinians LOL.. you don’t even care about innocent Americans. do you? You only care about your home country Israel.. so, lets quite the lies and face the truth.. you ar hijacking the truth and you sound pathetic

David Freeman   January 15th, 2009 6:47 am ET

Our friend spy on us???
Fox News executive received 30, 000 emails in one day because they aired a story that is critical of Israel. (not against Israel) their job is to make life/work environment miserable for anyone who run a story that is critical of Israel.. most Americans are so naive to this facts.. they think Israel is our Ally.. how naive.. Israel spies on the U.S consistently.. According to the FBI we have over 140 Israeli spies in our prisons.. your Ally is not suppose to spy on you and break the law.. they even bite the hand that feed them LOL

Watch Fox news story here

The Israeli propaganda machine made life so miserable for Fox News ..after airing this report.. this report lasted only one day on the their website before they took out.

The most notorious spy was Jonathan Pollard is an American of Jewish descent, born in Galveston Texas, who established a career as an intelligence analyst for the US Navy.

But by far the most egregious damage done by Pollard was to steal classified documents relating to the US Nuclear Deterrent relative to the USSR and send them to Israel. According to sources in the US State Department, Israel then turned around and traded those stolen nuclear secrets to the USSR in exchange for increased emigration quotas from the USSR to Israel. Other information that found its way from the US to Israel to the USSR resulted in the loss of American agents operating inside the USSR. Casper Weinberger, in his affidavit opposing a reduced sentence for Pollard, described the damage done to the United States thus, "[It is] difficult to conceive of a greater harm to national security than that caused by... Pollard's treasonous behavior." Not only Israel stole secretes from us but they also SOLD them to OUR ENEMY.. Wake up America.. Ally DO NOT do such horrible thing.

I have read a large portion of this blog. It is disturbing at best. You guys should read the book of Daniel and the book of Revelations in the Bible. These times are all very interesting as well as prophetic. The Bible is the only "religious" book with hundreds of fulfilled prophesies. In fact, the Bible is the only "religious" book with any prophesy, let alone any fulfilled prophesy. The only biblical prophesy yet to be fulfilled is end time prophesy and things are really lining up the way the Bible states that they will.

Eventually, Israel will be attacked and no one, not even the U.S. will come to their defense. Things will go very badly for Israel... THEN, their enemies will turn upon each other and destroy one another. I can certainly see this happening. I hope that each one of you will prepare for that day when the Lord returns for " the gate is narrow and few will pass through"

God said that those who are a friend to Israel will be blessed and those who curse Israel, I will curse... boy, hasn't that been the case.

The good news is that Jesus loves each one of you, Jewish, Muslim, Christian. He loves you all so much that he left his throne in Heaven to come to this world to be persecuted and to die on the cross so that each one of you might have everlasting life. During his ministry on Earth, He fulfilled all 109 prophesies about Him from the Old Testament... 109 prophesies about HIm dating back as far as 3000 years before he was even born.... isn't that awesome!!!

Akiva Heifitz   January 15th, 2009 9:41 am ET

hi guys
still arguing? lets work together!

Panther   January 15th, 2009 2:57 pm ET

Youi mentioned the christian right in your reply to the Professor. I shall expand on that if I might.

Let us say "the white christian right" Ok! They have been hijacked by the white European Jewish Israelis.. If the people who are populating Israel were black, then the mostly "southern white christian right" would have denied their existence........ The real truth will one day be disclosed.. Most black christians know the difference and black christians and others have seen and experienced suffering and seeing after the wanton killing of the helpless in Gaza, Israel will garner the punishment of God. Israel is not bigger than God.

Middle East: Human conflict
I tried to see the current Middle-east situation just from the human aspect, not involving my religion or personal interest. In my opinion, the core issue is of in justification. Innocent children, women and men are being killed, traumatized and deprived of their basic rights on both sides. However, the Israeli and American policies have been holding only one side i.e. Hamas responsible for the situation and defending Israel as just in her response. This behavior particularly from the US have polarized the world into Israel-US versus the rest of the world which on the long term will go against the interest of Israel as evident form the protests in London, Michigan, New York, Belgium and many other countries.

I wish to see a more balanced foreign policy toward this conflict; one that will hold Israel accountable of using F-16, phosphorus bombs, tanks and cobra helicopter and committing war crimes against a population that can’t even make an escape the chaos with confronting Hamas on firing rocket threatening and traumatizing hundreds of innocent people.

War is not a solution for this conflict; it is an easy and temporary fix. The use unjust force will not only create hate and anger towards Israel but also toward America which makes me fearful of the US becoming venerable to another terrorist attack in which innocent people will suffer. I remember the tragedy of 9/11 did not distinguish between a Jew, a Christian or a Muslim…. it was just human lives being lost.

Steve Canada   January 18th, 2009 3:10 am ET

What is Ban Ki-moon talking about an Israeli withdrawl?

He should better focus his attention on getting Hamas to stop rockets

Ban Ki-moon if he wants to taken seriously should better conduct himself or the UN will not be respected any longer

Ban Ki-moon should be a leader and speak against the Hamas rocket fire otherwise he is being biased and must be removed!

US unprecedented favoritism towards Israel has really lead to the discredit of UN as a double standard organization. On one hand UN is imposing sanctions to ”weaker” countries and on the other hand Israel’s neglect of the Security Counsel’s resolution undermines UN’s credibility. This conflict will never be solved until the world especially US apply an equal and justified policy toward both Palestine and Israel.
I am just tired of seeing dead children, women and men on both sides… “just stop” both of you (Hamas and Israel)

I can't believe some of the hate language here. As far as I know all your religions say love and peace. Doesn't any of you learn that? Why can Muslims and Christians live in peace in of all places Iran? Maybe you need to learn from them.

Its good to see that nothing has changed from the speeches of Dr.rice in regards to israels indiscrinate bombing of civilians of gaza to the killing of Lebanese of 2006 war when my family were holidaying there.howvere the sad part to the story is that Dr.rice has handed down the same speechs to the new sec.of state Mrs.Clinton,so that all the hope of Mr.Obama has show around the world has just been undermined by Mrs.Clintons speech ,well done.

PEACE! I think everything should go back to normal. Just happiness and peace! One other thing. I don't think people should say PEACE OUT! Because that is sayind peace GO OUT! No people should say PEACE IN! That would be amazing if I could hear people saying PEACE IN!!!!

Why do you have that files have All+Read and directories have All+ReadExecute? Isn't it sufficient to limit these permissions to Owner and Group?
