- This year's Veterans Day, originally called Armistice Day, marks the 80th anniversary of the end of World War I.
- U.S. stock and commodity markets will be open today, but government offices, many banks and Treasury bond market will be closed.
- World War I anniversary ceremonies will be held in Paris. Queen Elizabeth II is to lay a wreath with French President Jacques Chirac and unveil a statue of Winston Churchill.
- U.S. Commerce Secretary William Daley is scheduled to begin a fact-finding mission to the Middle East, to determine how the U.S. can promote trade and commerce to bolster peace process initiated by the Wye accord. Daley is to meet with his counterparts in Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Palestinian Authority and Lebanon.
- Japanese Prime Minister Keizo Obuchi is scheduled to begin his visit in Moscow.
- On Thursday, November 12, newly-elected Republican members of the House gather in Washington for freshman orientation and leadership elections.
- On Friday, November 13, President Clinton is tentatively scheduled to begin a 10-day Asian tour. His first stop is Guam.
- On Saturday, November 14, Prince Charles' 50th birthday party is held in London and hosted by his companion, Camilla Parker Bowles.
- On Sunday, November 15, Nobel Peace Prize-winner Archbishop Desmond Tutu is scheduled to speak at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
- On Monday, November 16, The Supreme Court is scheduled to meet in Washington to issue orders, then it will begin a two-week recess.
