CAIRO, Egypt (CNN) -- Unconfirmed reports in recent days have suggested that one of the world's most wanted terrorists, Sabri al-Banna (known as Abu Nidal), may be hiding in Egypt.
Abu Nidal, whose supporters have operated out of Iraq, Syria and Libya, is held responsible for assassinations, hijackings, bombings and commando raids.
His organization is blamed for attacks on airports in Rome and Vienna in 1985, an Egyptian airliner hijacking the same year, and the assassination of Abu Iyad, the Palestine Liberation Organization's intelligence chief and one of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's closest associates, in 1991.
