November 30, 1999
MOSCOW (CNN) -- The Russian Federal Security Agency, the FSB, said Tuesday it had detained a diplomat from the United States embassy after catching her in an act of espionage.
Security officials say the diplomat is a woman who served as a second secretary in Moscow. They say she had been caught trying to get top secret military and strategic information from a Russian citizen. A FSB spokesman said the diplomat has now been handed over to the United States consul.
US Embassy officials say they are unable to comment on the incident.
