BELFAST, Northern Ireland (CNN) -- The fear of sectarian violence in Northern Ireland is a constant reality for the Catholics and Protestants who inhabit the province.

Last year's Good Friday agreement may have lessened incidents of violence across denominational lines, but it has done virtually nothing to protect the faithful from aggression by those within their own groups.
