At least 2 injured in Moscow shopping mall explosion
August 31, 1999 MOSCOW (CNN) -- An explosion ripped through an underground shopping mall near Moscow's Red Square on Tuesday evening, injuring at least two people. The cause of the blast was not known, but authorities said the explosion occurred on the third level of the Manezh Square shopping center in a video game room. Unconfirmed reports indicated the explosion occurred in one of the games. The Russian Interior Ministry told CNN that two people were seriously injured. The Russian news agency Interfax reported that as many as 20 people "suffered" in the blast. Russian news reports said police and fire officials evacuated the complex just outside the Kremlin's northwest wall. Moscow Bureau Chief Jill Dougherty contributed to this report.
