Albania says Serb forces cross border, occupy village
April 13, 1999

TIRANA, Albania (CNN) -- Yugoslav troops have crossed the
border and occupied a town in northern Albania, Albanian
government officials said Tuesday.
Yugoslav infantry overwhelmed border guards and seized the
village of Kemenica, which has been subjected to Serb
artillery fire over the past several days, Albanian Interior
Minister Petro Koci said.
The town is located along a stretch of border where the
ethnic Albanian guerrillas of the Kosovo Liberation Army have
been battling Serb-led Yugoslav troops.
An observer with the Organization for Security and
Cooperation in Europe confirmed the incursion, suggesting it
was a reprisal for earlier KLA attacks in the Serbian
province of Kosovo.
Yugoslavia denies any incursion occurred.
