BRUSSELS (CNN) -- NATO said Friday that its forces had shot down two Yugoslav MiG-29 fighter jets over Bosnia-Herzegovina. NATO said it was searching for the pilots of the downed aircraft.
NATO spokesman Jamie Shea made the announcement, saying the aircraft apparently tried to attack the NATO-led stabilization force in Bosnia.
NATO sources told CNN the incident took place about 5:15 p.m. (1615 GMT) local time near the northeastern Bosnian town of Teocak.
The force, known as SFOR, was set up to implement the 1995 Dayton peace accord that ended the fighting in Bosnia.
It was the first reported incident over Bosnia since NATO launched airstrikes Wednesday on neighboring Yugoslavia.
