PARIS (CNN) -- An Air France plane on a domestic flight from Marseille to the Orly airport south of Paris was hijacked and diverted to Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle airport north of the capital by a passenger Tuesday, airport officials said.

The officials said that the hijacker, apparently acting alone, allowed 70 of the 75 passengers to leave the plane at Charles-de-Gaulle airport.

It was unclear why the hijacker, who was said to speak Italian, forced the aircraft to change its route.

Details to come.

Paris Bureau Chief Peter Humi contributed to this repo
