BERLIN (CNN) -- A tiny, 4-day-old elephant was introduced to an entirely different species at Berlin's Freidrichsfelde Zoo on Tuesday: a herd of television and still cameras accompanied by a pack of journalists.

The infant female African elephant, one of only seven born in captivity in Germany, appeared a little shaky on her legs as she was presented to the media.

Elephant keeper Matthias Otto said the zoo's newest resident has caused a sensation.

"It is very rare for African elephants to be born in captivity," he said. "One reason for this is because many zoos only keep male African elephants, so there are no births."

The Freidrichsfelde Zoo is asking Berliners to suggest African monikers for the still-nameless pachyderm.

Reuters contributed to this report.
