Britain
Prime Minister Tony Blair welcomed Schroeder's victory as a "tremendous thing" and a "great personal triumph" for the Social Democrat leader.
France
Prime Minister Lionel Jospin congratulated Schroeder, crediting him with a "great victory." Added Socialist-led Cabinet member and Health Minister Bernard Kouchner: "A new generation is coming to power in Germany. ... Europe will be strengthened."
Russia
A Foreign Ministry official said Moscow was counting on Schroeder to preserve close ties between Germany and Russia. "(Russia) hopes that all channels of communication between the leaders of the two countries will remain open," the official told the Interfax news agency.
