Two suspected Bosnian war criminals arrestedJuly 23, 1998Web posted at: 5:24 a.m. EDT (0924 GMT) BRUSSELS (CNN) -- Two Bosnian Serb men suspected of war crimes were arrested by NATO-led troops in the northwestern Bosnian town of Prijedor, the NATO-led Stabilisation Force (SFOR) said in a statement on Thursday. The SFOR statement said the men, believed to be 29-year-old twin brothers Predag and Nenad Banovic, surrendered to troops on Wednesday. Both men are being taken to the Hague for further identification by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY). The brothers, guards at the infamous Keraterm detention camp during the 1992-1995 war, have been indicted by the ICTY for grave breaches of the Geneva Convention, SFOR said. These crimes included torture, inhumane treatment and unlawful confinement, it said. The SFOR statement said there were no casualties during the operation. A spokeswoman declined to give the nationality of the troops who carried out the arrest. The Hague is prosecuting people charged with genocide and war crimes committed during the 1992-1995 Bosnian civil war. The 1995 Dayton peace accord signed by the leaders of Serbia, Bosnia and Croatia ended the civil war, which began with the disintegration of the former Yugoslavia. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
