Of Interest:
- Having gained independence in January
1993, Slovakia is one of Europe's newest nation-states.
- Election Law: In June 1998, new amendments
were passed to Slovakia's election law. The new law places the whole of Slovakia into one electoral constituency. Among its provisions, the law limits official election campaigning to state-owned broadcast media. The election law also states that each political party, including those running in electoral coalitions, must receive five percent of the total vote to qualify for seats in parliament.
