Description
of electoral system:
The President
is elected by popular vote for a five-year term.
In the Assembly,
120 members are elected according to the proportional model, whereby
the territory of the Republic of Macedonia is divided
into 6 election districts determined by Law and each elects 20 members.
All serve four-year terms.

When was the last election?
The last
presidential election was held on November 14, 1999. In this election,
Boris TRAJKOVSKI of the Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization-Democratic
Party for Macedonian National Unity (VMRO-DPMNE) won the presidency
with 52.4% of the votes.

Under the law, the presidential
election is non-partisan; however, each of the candidates was supported
by a political party.
One of the presidential
