Of Interest:
  • In the 1996 parliamentary elections, the Democratic Union (DU), a coalition composed of the MNDP, the MSDP and several smaller parties, seized power from the Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party (MPRP) to end the parties' 75-year reign.
  • After worsening economic conditions and internal fighting within the Democratic Union, the MSDP regained power by an overwhelming majority in these elections, winning 72 of 76 seats in the Great Hural.
