Description
of government structure:
- The 76 seat Mongolian Parliament, the
State Great Hural, held its first elections on June 28, 1992.
- Each party with at least one
member of parliament can field one candidate for the presidency.
- The Democratic Union Coalition
won 50 out of 76 seats in the parliament in 1996 to take power after seventy-five years of
rule by Mongolia's communists.

Gombojav recently joined the United Traditionalist Party after quitting the Mongolian
People's Revolutionary Party, a party he is concerned is becoming too conservative.
