Seven of 19 potential candidates failed the examination.
- President AKAYEV
ran for a third term in office, although the Kyrgyz Constitution limits
the president to two terms in office. The Constitutional Court ruled
that AKAEV's first term legally began in 1995, since he ran unopposed
in 1991.
