Description
of electoral system:
- The president is
elected by popular vote for a six-year term.
- In the Senate,
64 members are elected by simply majority (2 per state, including Mexico
City) and 32 seats are accorded to the first minority party. The remaining
32 seats are distributed by proportional representation. All members
serve six-year terms.
- In the Lower Chamber,
300 members are elected by simple majority vote and 200 members are
elected by a party list proportional representation system. All members
serve three-year terms.
