Of Interest:
- The date of the
election was postponed by five days from March 7 to March 12 due to
logistical problems.
- Under the terms
of a constitutional amendment approved through popular vote in June
2000, political parties were not allowed to campaign or put up candidates
in elections. All candidates in this election were nominally independent.
- This presidential
election was the second presidential popular election since Uganda's
independence in 1962, the first popular election for president was held
on May 9, 1996.
